Built by our grandparents when our Mom and her twin sister were just in their teens, this home is filled with a lifetime of special memories. Lifelong family bonds, over 5 generations, have been forged with our siblings, cousins, aunts/uncles, grandparents, extended family and friends during those endless days of summer magic.
Many of us continue to travel from far and wide to come back to the lake each year, providing our families with the opportunity to create ongoing priceless memories.
Our Waneta lake house has been the site of many fun-filled family gatherings and offers an escape from the every day hectic pace of daily life. The house has been expanded and updated over the past several years to provide a space where you can truly sit back and relax. The lake has a shallow, gradual slope so the kids can splash around without any hidden drop-offs. Fishermen will love fishing off the 42 foot dock! Enjoy evenings sitting by a lakeside bonfire, watching the sky explode with more stars than you could ever see back home. Most of our renters come back year after year as this is a place that is great for friends vacationing together, families celebrations or for couples looking to relax and unwind.
The house has been renovated with a prep-kitchen and half bath on the lower level so lakeside grilling and entertaining is a snap. Enjoy the quiet dawn of morning sunrises from the upper balcony or side deck.
The large L-shaped dock has a bench seat, great for fishing or just sitting. Multiple tie downs and bumpers line the dock, should you want to bring a personal boat.
When its time to unwind from the days' adventures, recently upgraded mattresses and crisp linens will provide a great nights' sleep. Mini-split AC / heating units are located on each level to provide comfort throughout your stay.
We continue to enjoy this lovely lakefront vacation spot year after year. A true "escape" from our busy "city life" enjoying early morning sunrises and late night campfires!! The house is well maintained and comfortable. Love, love, love the lower kitchen and large lakefront patio.
Our grandson fished for bass and perch right from the dock. Looking forward to planning our trip next year,
We stayed for a long fall weekend using this house as a base for hiking and wine tasting. Everything was clean, well stocked and organized. The views from the balcony were gorgeous. My only minus would be the water pressure in the shower was very low. (This may just need a new shower head) It was money well spent.
Sharon left us a note when we arrived asking us to check in which was a nice touch and she provided great information about the local area and we felt welcome. We stayed with 6 total people and the house easily could have held more. Each room had a queen bed with either a dresser or closet to store your clothes and even though the rooms were on the small side they were perfect for what we needed. I loved that the property had an extra half bathroom and the main one was large with a stand up shower. There is a back deck up top with a patio below which has a grill for easy cooking. The fire pit is 2 feet next to the lake which provides a great view and atmosphere at night. There was also a paddle boat and row boat if you wanted to go on the lake. The local downtown area is quaint with some fun shops, a grocery store and restaurants. Just know that everything in the area is a 15 to 25 minute drive away from the house. Roads were easy to travel but have your gps ready and be careful with the cell service. We all had a great time and if your looking for a lake house retreat I'd definitely suggest coming here.
We loved spending the weekend at the lake, this house was absolutely perfect! More than enough space for everyone. Walking up and seeing the lake first thing in the morning was beautiful. The house was very well kept on the inside and out. We wised we had more time to stay! We'll be back!
What a perfect place! Tons of outside seating areas, barbecue grill, balcony over looking the gorgeous Waneta lake. Two kitchens for entertaining, close to Waneta Inn for a great meal! Watkins Glen and Hammondsport nearby for shopping! Peaceful and serene! Can't wait to stay again! Thank you Sharon and Linda!
The cottage lived up to its' billing...it is spacious, well equipped and maintained. It is conveniently located to many Finger Lakes wineries, shops/restaurants in Hammondsport and hiking trails. We would stay there again.
We thoroughly enjoyed lake waneta and your place. It simplified our lives and gave us uninterrupted time to reflect. The home was wonderful!
