About Sharon Matkosky

Built by our grandparents when our Mom and her twin sister were just in their teens, this home is filled with a lifetime of special memories. Lifelong family bonds, over 5 generations, have been forged with our siblings, cousins, aunts/uncles, grandparents, extended family and friends during those endless days of summer magic.

Many of us continue to travel from far and wide to come back to the lake each year, providing our families with the opportunity to create ongoing priceless memories.

Why Sharon Matkosky chose Keuka Lake

Our Waneta lake house has been the site of many fun-filled family gatherings and offers an escape from the every day hectic pace of daily life. The house has been expanded and updated over the past several years to provide a space where you can truly sit back and relax. The lake has a shallow, gradual slope so the kids can splash around without any hidden drop-offs. Fishermen will love the dockside plentiful fishing! Enjoy evenings sitting by a lakeside bonfire, watching the sky explode with more stars than you could ever see back home. Most of our renters come back year after year as this is a place that is great for friends vacationing together, families celebrations or for couples looking to relax and unwind.

What makes this house unique

The house has been renovated with a prep-kitchen and half bath on the lower level so lakeside grilling and entertaining is a snap. Enjoy the quiet of the morning from the upper balcony or side deck. The large L-shaped dock is great for sitting on the bench, fishing or tying up your boat. When its time to unwind from the days' adventures recently upgraded mattresses will provide a great nights' sleep.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Our stay was wonderful! The cottage was absolutely beautiful and

exactly what we were looking for. The neighbor was very friendly and

welcomed us as soon as we arrived. The cottage was very clean and cared for. We usually go to a different lake every year but we are actually considering coming back next year because the cottage was just perfect for our family.

Thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Lovely house. Nice setting. We very much enjoyed our week. House was well stocked with supplies(kitchen utensils etc). Dishwasher would have been helpful. House was very neat and clean. Shower was small and not adequate for our 7 people, would be more difficult for the 10 house holds. Nancy the caretaker was very friendly and helpful;. Communication concerning property prerental and during process left alot to be desired!!

We rented kayaks and a paddle board from Regans Rental excellent.

Overall experience very satisfied and would recommend to others with explanations of above.

My friends and I flew in from around the country to get together and stay at this cottage for the week. This cottage is absolutely beautiful and with an awesome patio great for entertaining and large dinners. Plenty of room for extras to stay over and great dock for fishing, boating or whatever your heart desires! I hope to come back again next year!

Lakeside Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We just enjoyed a beautiful Summer week at this house on Waneta lake. The 3 bedrooms, each with a queen bed, made this a great place for 3 couples to vacation together. The place was very clean, and even the water was cleared of a lot of the weeds, which we appreciated. There is lots of comfortable seating inside and outside. The big table on the lakeside patio was perfect for our dinners. Also, don't miss the Windmill in PennYan for a great Saturday outing.

Waneta Lake House

  • 5 of 5

I have been coming to this cottage since the 50's. It has totally been upgraded and refurbished. Wonderful views of entire lake. New large outdoor patio. Large living room and upper deck, plus two full kitchens makes entertaining a breeze, . Close to wineries, Short ride to quaintl towns of Hammondsport and Watkins Glen. There are so many activites, but my favorite is just lounging around at the lake and enjoying the sunrise and sunset.

Owners are very accommodating and cottage is always very clean and neat. Also great for girls getaway or fishmen. Kids will love fishing right off the dock. Also great for walkers.

Perfect for Fall Winery tours and Leafers

  • 5 of 5

We really looking forward to our next visit to this Waneta Lake house. Our favorite time is the fall. The leaves are beautiful in the Finger Lakes and we like being on Waneta as it sits right between both the Keuka and Seneca Wine trails. Each day we head in a new direction to look for treasures at local antique shops, enjoy lunch and of course stop in at a few wineries along the way. The guys really enjoy fishing on this lake. They say it's one of the best fishing spots in the area and spend endless hours reeling in the bass and perch, but are still in the hunt for one of the huge muskies that they envy as they are held up by others. We like to end each day enjoying a glass of wine, and a few fish stories, by the campfire. A perfect place to relax!

A great place for a family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family has enjoyed many great times together at Waneta Lake. We really enjoy being on a smaller, more family friendly lake, and the fishing on Waneta is fantastic and we like that the house is on a private road away from traffic. The kids like having their own space on the lower level and having a kitchen on each level is so convenient for our BBQ's on the patio by the water. Some of my favorite times are sharing a cup of coffee, on the glass balcony, while watching the sunrise and listening to the fish jump and then taking a long walk along the lake road to start the day. We've also shared a lot of laughs and many good conversations by the campfire. We look forward to every visit!
