Perfect Hawaiian hideaway in the peace and quiet
Perfect property for 2 people with the real bonus of a 50ft pool, so you can swim proper laps, which we did every day, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The water temperature is perfect and the pool is lovely and clean. There is also a really spacious large deck with lovely ocean views and the sounds are wonderful; birds chirruping and doves cooing all day, and a wonderful frog chorus at night. Little lizards scuttling around and cows munching in the field below - it all felt so restful and bucolic. Rachel is charming and made us feel super welcome. Thank you Rachel for renting your property to us. We had a really good vacation here and just wish we'd booked for longer!! :)
Gorgeous views for days!
Rachel’s guest house is simply wonderful. We spent 6 beautiful days here, and my only regret is that we were so busy running around being tourists that we didn’t spend nearly enough of those 6 days just hanging out at the house, gazing at the Pacific Ocean. The photos don’t really show the extent of the view, but it is truly something special. The other wonderful thing about this rental is how peaceful it is: the only sound at night is gently croaking frogs (they weren’t loud at all) and in the morning, the birdsong is just amazing. We also heard the occasional rooster, but much like the frogs, they were far more charming than disruptive. I seriously could’ve sat on the amazing lanai ALL day. That said, there are a zillion beautiful things to see within an hour+ of Honokaa. If you’re looking to stay at just one place but still have easy access to much of both sides of the Big Island, Honokaa is a great option (as long as you don’t mind a little extra driving). It’s definitely a bit of a haul from Puna, South Point, and Volcanoes National Park, but only 15-20 minutes from Waimea (home of delicious restaurants!!), about 20 minutes from the stunning Waipio Valley, an hour-ish from Hilo, and 40 minutes from the amazing beaches of North Kona and Kohala. The town of Honokaa (about a 5-minute drive away) is also adorable. The guest house itself is very comfortable yet simple - nothing super fancy, but it has everything you need - plus that view! I should mention that we did not use the pool, though it looked awesome. The hot tub appeared to be out of commission - not a concern for us, but if it’s something you’re looking forward to, you may want to check with Rachel to make sure that it’s working. Speaking of Rachel, she is a fantastic host - so kind and warm; she responded quickly to our pre-trip questions, and once we arrived and she showed us around the rental, we had complete privacy for the rest of our stay (though Rachel was 100% available if we needed anything; she lives with her family in the main house across the pool - but the way things are situated, the guest house feels very private). To sum it all up, I highly recommend this lovely guest cottage for anyone interested in staying in a peaceful retreat with a spectacular view away from the hustle and bustle of the west side resorts. Thank you to Rachel for a terrific vacation!
The best vacation ever, the accomadations were perfect and everything we needed was there for us. The ocean view from the Lanai was stunning and very relaxing with a beautiful view of the sunrise. The pool is huge and Rachael is a very sweet and kind host. My husband and I will be returning to this centrally located home between Hilo and Kona, for us a perfect location to everywhere we wanted to go and experience. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!
Excellent location. Rachel is a wonderful host.
This was a wonderful little place to stay. Beautiful views, cozy and comfortable. I would love to stay again when I have the chance to get to the Island. Thanks Rachael!
Beautiful, Quiet and Cozy
This was a wonderful spot near Honokaa for our final 3 nights. The view of the water and the hillside is serene and lovely and the place was spotless, cozy and comfortable. Rachel, your host, is the shining star of the little house. Helpful, kind, friendly and delightful to visit with.
This is a simply beautiful spot and we highly recommend it.
