This is a totally renovated beautiful cottage, in a secluded wooded setting on 3.7 acres, with Catskill Mountain views from one of the highest points in the area. The surrounding oak forest is the oldest in the Town of Rhinebeck. In a rural but not isolated setting, the cottage is only eight minutes from charming Rhinebeck Village with its antique stores, fine restaurants, local movie theatre, and many shops, and it is only fifteen minutes from the Amtrak station. It's also an easy ten-minute drive to the Omega Institute and ideal for those who want to attend Omega events but prefer their own housing. The large living room, with cozy brick fireplace, opens onto a spacious Adirondack-style screened porch, which could serve as a sleeping porch. The bedroom has a bay window that looks out to the mountains and woods; it opens onto the screened porch through French doors with charming French lace curtains. The living room sofa converts to the world's most comfortable queen-sized sofa bed. The front porch, with Adirondack chairs, opens onto a beautiful, large stone walkway and patio. The patio and the deck on the side of the cottage are perfect for sunset drinks, and later for star-gazing. A beautiful swing hangs from a great oak tree in front. The cottage has a flat-screen (satellite) TV and DVD player in the living room, and a TV/DVD player in the bedroom, and it has wireless internet service. It is air-conditioned and has a washer and dryer. The small kitchen is fully equipped, including dishwasher and microwave. The full bathroom has a tub/shower and a skylight. Access is easy from both the Taconic Parkway and the New York Thruway. The cottage is available May through October for $2475 per month and $1375 per week, with a one-month minimum for June, July, and August, or $7300 for the full summer season (Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend). For holiday weekends, Thanksgiving, Rhinebeck Sinterclaus Weekend (Dec. 5-7), Christmas, New Year’s, and Bard/ Vassar Commencement weekends, the cottage rents for $225 per night with a three-night minimum; two-night minimum for non-holiday weekends. Christmas 5-night (12/24-12/29) special $1000, and New Year's 5-night (12/31-1/5) special $1000. For non-holiday monthly and weekly rates November through April, contact owner. All rentals have, in addition, a $150 cleaning fee.

The Owner purchased this cottage in 1998
My friend and I traveled to Rhinebeck for the Dutchess County Sheep and Wool Festival in October, and everything about my experience with Dan and this cottage were top notch. We were traveling from Canada, and at every step of the way, Dan was patient and thoughtful in helping us plan our accommodations. All of our emails backs and forth were detailed and timely, and I appreciated Dan's patience and understanding with arranging payment from another country.
In the days leading up to the trip, Dan sent me detailed directions to the cottage, which were incredibly helpful in navigating the local highways and winding country roads. When we arrived at the cottage after a long day of driving, Dan was right there to meet us, and he walked us through every feature of the cottage. It was fantastic, and especially appreciated the fireplace in the living room (we used it both nights we were there!).
The cottage includes a small kitchen, which was perfect for putting together our own breakfasts each morning. Dan left coffee, a bottle of milk, and muffins for us in the kitchen, which was a sweet touch.
Having a car with us with necessary, as the cottage is about an 8 minute drive from downtown Rhinebeck, but it was a short trip to go and find a meal or explore the town. Dan's restaurant suggestions were right on, we really enjoyed the Thai food place he recommended.
The cottage includes WiFi and satellite TV, and it couldn't be a more perfect location. You can sit out on the covered porch and enjoy your coffee while you look out over the trees and the mountains in the distance.
Every bit as good as the pictures, and most deserving of a 5-star review rating - highly recommended!
My wife and I retreated to the cottage for 3 months this past winter/spring (March - May 2012) from the City. We truly escaped the city as early as possible on the weekends and looked forward to coming to Rhinebeck every Friday to sit by the fire and relax. As previous reviews have stated, the cottage is impeccably well maintained and well equipped with everything that you need: washer/dryer, kitchen with dishwasher, and working fireplace. Towards the end of our stay, we even utilized the screened-in patio and porch for watching the sunset over the Hudson and southern Catskills and cooking out on the grill. There were never any issues with the cottage, but if there had been, the owners would have promptly responded and taken care of everything.
The owners were incredibly helpful with suggestions about places to see, visit, and things to do in the area. They provided numerous detailed emails about local shops, groceries, markets, etc. to make our time enjoyable and easy.
“The Rhinebeck cottage,” as we affectionately called it, is far enough away from the main village that the feel of the country pervades everything, but close enough that you can quickly get there or other local towns for necessities. There are many restaurants in the area, but our favorite was Local. Check it out. My wife truly enjoyed exploring the surrounding towns and the numerous antique shops in and around the Hudson Valley.
We want to return next year, if our schedule’s can accommodate. My wife’s winter was much more enjoyable and bearable this year because of our stay at the cottage. We had such a great experience that we have considered buying nearby!
We would enthusiastically recommend “The Rhinebeck Cottage” to any and all for a relaxing and enjoyable city retreat.
Landed in cottage, with wonderful support, including being met at train, to find ourselves in magic space suspended in a white flurry. We were snowed in our first night, happy by the fire; following morning we see the mountains in beautiful light. From sparkling mornings to languid sunsets, we thoroughly loved our stay in this exquisite cottage.
We rented the cottage for four months in the winter (January - April 2012) as a weekend retreat away from New York City. My husband and I looked forward to coming to Rhinebeck every Friday night to sit by the fire and relax. The cottage is impeccably well maintained and well equipped with everything that you need - washer/dryer, kitchen with dishwasher and microwave and a working fireplace. It even has an enclosed patio for summer lounging and al fresco dining but we didn't make much use of it in the winter. If there were any issues with the cottage, the owners promptly responded and took care of everything.
The cottage is a stone's throw from the main village of Rhinebeck. There are many restaurants we enjoyed with very high quality food. We never felt like we compromised on our lifestyle during the weekends because we were able to dine just as well in Rhinebeck as in the City. The neighboring villages were also fun to explore, especially the antique shops in Red Hook. If you needed to do some regular shopping, we just crossed the river to Kingston and found every big box retailer that we needed (e.g. Home Depot, Bed Bad and Beyond, Walmart etc.).
We had a wonderful time during our stay in the cottage and would highly recommend staying here any time of year. Our winter was much more enjoyable and bearable for us this year because of it. We had such a great experience at the cottage during the winter months that we decided to buy our own house in a nearby village just so we can enjoy the surroundings all year long!
I spent a month in this cottage, a mixture of vacation and work, and the setting was perfect for both. The cottage is just lovely, designed to exploit its beautiful surrounding. The screened in porch provides views of only nature, yet you are a quick drive into Rhinebeck. Peaceful without being too isolated.
The listing for this property does not do this cottage justice. It is clean, in a great location, wonderful views of the Catskills and in the absolute middle of great fall folliage. The host has a unbelieveable attention to detail and his knowledge of the Hudson Valley Region is second to none. All vistors should be so lucky as to have a host like him. There is great food in the area. I would recommend The Inn at Rhinebeck ,The Terrapin and The Culinary Institute of America,( try the Itatalian resturant; be sure and make reservations ahead).Visit all of the old mansions and museums your time will allow. I would recommend starting with host's recommendations first. I would recommend this cottage highly. We had a great week here in early October.
