Michigan Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 3-6)

Nestled on the shores of Lake Huron, Bear Cottage will rekindle childhood memories of an 'Up North' vacation. Each over-sized room provides an ever changing view of the big lake. Enjoy an early morning walk along the beach as animal friends return to their forest homes. Scrabble away the day with a glass of Chardonnay as birds visit numerous lakeside feeding stations. Conclude the day roasting hot dogs over a beach-side fire.

Open windows and sea breezes will invite restful sleep.

Should a more active day be in store, visit Loggers Trace or White Pine National golf course. Catch a dinner trout from nearby ponds. Bike to nearby locales on a recently repaved and widened US 23. Visit the acclaimed NOAA shipwreck or Besser museum in nearby Alpena. You could even dive these wrecks or kayak to nearby islands. Test your appetite on a 'Mountain Burger' from the nearby Mountain Inn pub.

So......turn the cellphone off. Quiet your mind. Return to your childhood. Fully experience nature. Visit Bear Cottage.

Please note my favorite month at Bear Cottage is September. They days are still very warm but the early chill of approaching Autumn provides for excellent sleeping.

No smoking please.

About Linda Suneson Rental Agent

Reared in Motown, I left some 30 years ago, returning to an area I had vacationed at as a child. I am now retired splitting my time between Bear Cottage and Sarasota Florida. I hope you can create many fond memories of this place. I have.

Linda Suneson Rental Agent purchased this cottage in 1985

Why Linda Suneson Rental Agent chose Michigan

This area of the Lower Peninsula is most unique. Many islands dot the big lake. The variety of wildlife is extensive. Eagles frequent the point on which Bear cottage is located. Please be aware that only the month of August is suitable for swimming. Although we have a beautiful sandy beach suitable for sunbathing, volleyball and animal viewing our Lakepoint is very rocky in the water. Either side of us you will find sand beach and sand bottom and our neighbors are most amenable to use of the beach. However if you must have a more private beach and you are anticipating an August vacation I would encourage you to look at some nearby Sturgeon Point listings. Be aware the cost will be significantly higher or the unit significantly smaller than my home. See listings 3020500 or 454129. And never pay for a sandy bottom in the months of June and July.

What makes this cottage unique

The house is 1600 square feet. All rooms are over-sized with separate sitting areas in each bedroom. The house has been updated while retaining its knotty pine charm. Enjoy my library of books accumulated over a lifetime.

The lakeside living room is separate from the roadside family room. Television viewing in the family room will not disturb living room tranquility. The 16 x 18 family room may also be used as a third bedroom as it has a queen-sized futon.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Just wanted to send a thank you for a lovely stay at the cottage, we really enjoyed ourselves! It was fate that you had a vacancy when we needed it to participate in a family vacation, as other family members had accommodations about 4 miles south. The wine was much appreciated, a welcoming touch! We can't say enough about the tremendous lake view that added to our photographic collection this vacation!

Fantastic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time at Bear Cottage, it was very spacious and well maintained. The view of the lake was awesome. The sunrises were truly remarkable.

The special attention to the little things to make us feel at home were much appreciated (linens, firewood, & kitchen items just to mention a few). I would certainly recommend this cottage to anyone wishing to getaway and relax. A great family getaway we would certainly rent Bear Cottage again.

Perfect Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a quick getaway in this "up north" lake spot. What a great experience! From the quick response times to a spotless cottage on arrival....We could not ask for more. The weather wasn't cooperative but we were thrilled when we spotted several deer each time we walked and the constant activity at the hummingbird feeder kept us entertained while inside. We will be repeat visitors.

Relaxing and serene

  • 5 of 5

The stay was truly relaxing, the view of the lake spectacular through the windows in bedrooms and great room. We captured some lovely sunrise photos from the beach. We would definitely recommend this location to family and friends. The short trip to the lighthouse was an afternoon well spent. The property manager was very easy to communicate with; was quick to respond to any questions we posed.

Peaceful and comfortable

  • 5 of 5

The Bear Cottage is a wonderful place to stay on the Sunrise Side. The owners provide everything you need to make your stay comfortable (high quality linens, kitchen supplies and firewood), and the house itself is very spacious and well-maintained. But it is the view that makes the property really stand out. The lakeside of the house is almost all windows that look out to the lawn, beach and constantly visited bird-feeders. Even at night the view of the sky is breath-taking. There is almost no light pollution, so you feel as if the stars are your neighbors.

Be aware that the beach in front of the cottage is wet, rocky and can be frequented by geese, but there is an area of nice sand closer to the house where the fire pit is. The walk north along the beach is great. In addition, both Negwegon State Park and the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse are nearby activities that all ages would enjoy.

We would definitely go back.

The lakeside location of Bear cottage provides many opportunities for viewing wildlife and birds. The sandy beach is wide and deep and is suitable for sun bathing, volleyball, and nightly fires. For those where swimming is a priority we suggest you either seek an inland lake location or at a minimum seek another nearby August rental. Except for polar bears, expectations of in-water activities in other than August are unrealistic. And expect to pay approximately 50% more for a Lake Huron sand bottom experience. For example please check out this nearby Sturgeon Point listing 454129. It's about 800 square feet and rents for about $1,000 per week. So the sandy bottom comes at a cost, since that rental is about 1/2 the size of my home.

Notes:
Bear cottage has a piano and an extensive library. Only the month of August is suitable for swimming due to the cold Lake Superior water moving through Northern Lake Huron. Our beach is semi-sandy and swimmers may use our nearby neighbors sand bottom for swimming. However those desiring a private August swimming experience should seek out some nearby Sturgeon Point rentals. Note the cost will be considerable higher or the rental smaller so only pay for that which you can use.
