Great Cabin in the Woods

  • 5 of 5

If you like peace and quiet with only the sound of nature this is the place to stay. The kitchen is well equipped- all you have to bring is your food. The sound of the Appomattox River below will calm your spirit and give us city dwellers a little bit of heaven. The bed is so comfortable and the view from the upstairs windows is fantastic. We hate to leave!

A fantastic getaway!

  • 5 of 5

River's Bend has been a treasure that we have enjoyed frequently for several years. It has a beautiful, secluded location--far away from any road or other noises. The cabin itself is a mix of rustic styling with modern amenities--central heat/air, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, a small but nice bathroom, and even Dish TV with a DVD player. The rear deck offers a stunning view of the river below and the area nearby--in warmer weather we spend a lot of time out there, and it is a slice of heaven! The only sounds are the wind and the birds! Another gem is the upstairs bedroom, which last year had picture windows added to take advantage of the beautiful view.

The owners are attentive and available if you have any questions or need something fixed (we never have) and keep the cabin clean and in good condition. This place is perfect for a quiet romantic getaway--it is one of the most secluded cabins you'll find. Nearby is Holladay Lake State Park, which has fishing, boating, a beach, and tons of hiking trails. Also nearby is Appomattox with a number of historic and tourist sites.

A few things that we've learned: if you visit during winter, bring a 4WD vehicle, as the long driveway is shaded most of the time and snow is slow to melt away. The driveway also gets steeper downhill as you approach the cabin. Cell phone service is spotty, but there's a land line to call from. As someone else noted, if you like music, bring your own music/player, and although they have a few DVDs there, you may want to bring those too. The stairway to the upstairs bedroom is steep, so take it slow--especially coming down.

Other than those minor details--the cabin is an absolutely fantastic getaway! We highly recommend it to anyone who likes the outdoors, and also values a quiet, beautiful, and secluded location.

A Real Gem

  • 5 of 5

This cabin is a class act. From the driveway entrance to the awesome kitchen, I was giddy. It is quaint, modern and enchanting. The bed is very comfortable, the decor and views are beautiful. Well managed. Secluded but close to 460. We look forward to staying there again.

Pictures do not do this cabin justice!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! We made our travel plans very last minute and were happy to find a place to stay for just one night.

THe owners have made many updates on the exterior that these pictures do not give the home justice. When you walk in you see all the attention to detail with a variety of antiques and hardwood floors. It is like you stepped back into the 1800's but still have the amenities of a modern cabin.

It is very isolated , just you and the stream. The back deck gives a great view of the river below. Very relaxing.

We have rented many homes and this one falls into the "way more than expected" for the price.

A Step Back in Time

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was a perfect getaway for my wife and I. We had to spend a few days in town for a wedding, and while most of the wedding party were in nearby hotels, we had the incredible solitude and beauty associated with this cabin. The quiet driveway and tightly closed woods makes the visitor feel as if they are the only people for miles. This rustic cabin feels like you stepped in the 1700s, but the appliances and other amenities are modern and convenient. We will definitely be returning as soon as we can.
