The Lautenbach family has farmed and harvested the forests of Door County for generations. The Honey Dew Lodge was originally build to display their families expertise in design and construction of log homes.
The Family build a Scandinavian Scribe Construction, where each log is carved into the next. As time goes on the fit gets tighter. The home is warm and cozy any time of the year.
The Lautenbach family invites you to join them at the Log Den, Their families restaurant.
I stayed there late in September of this year. It was absolutely wonderful. The location, setting the building, grounds and interior were all far beyond what I expected. The log structure is stunning! No expense or corners cut with the house. It's very spacious and has a wonderful feel and ties the country setting and all the conveniences of home into one. It has large open concept living room, kitchen and dining are that didn't feel alienating to me and would be very comfortable to accommodate multiple families with plenty of space for everyone. There's a loft with beds and the bedrooms are private and the bed was extremely comfortable. The owners were very friendly and accomodating to my needs and requests.
It has a great kitchen with high end appliances and is laid out well to be conducive for preparing a gourmet meal or the simplest of meals or snacks. A small game room with a pool table. Play area outside for children. Several decks to enjoy the setting and lots of windows throughout. The ground are surrounded by beautiful mature trees.
It was exactly what I needed to recharge my batteries and refresh my spirit. I would highly recommend it to anyone whether solo, couples, families or multiple families. The location is ideal being almost in the center of the county. 12 miles to Sturgeon Bay and convenient to enjoy the tourist attractions, hiking, biking and Lake Michigan.
I'm going to suggest it to my company for a corporate team building retreat. It will work perfectly.
I highly recommend it and well definitely go back!

This log cabin is perfect for a family getaway. The house is beautiful, and conveniently located a few minutes outside of Egg Harbor. We found it to be quiet, private, and incredibly spacious. We were very happy with how clean it was, how well appointed it was (no problem cooking in the kitchen - it was completely stocked, and there are two partial kitchens on the upper and lower floors), and how comfortable it was to just hang out. Every member of our family quickly found their own favorite spot to chill out. Best of all, the owners were very attentive and helpful. We had a car problem during our stay that left us stranded at the house. One phone call resulted in almost instant help.
FYI, there is no WiFi at the cabin, but that worked to our advantage in limiting our teenagers' screen time and resulted in great family time.
Door County is a great destination with more activities and shopping than can be crammed into one week. We will definitely be booking again when we return to Door County.
This was our 6th Annual Siblings Outing and we couldn't have chosen a more perfect home. VRBO didn't even begin to explain how wonderful this house is. It is huge and very clean. We would spend our evenings on the main level and enjoy our coffee and family visiting in the upper level apartment before heading out for the day. We were pleasantly surprised when we went down the stairs to the lower level. We found a whole other "living" area. Wow! There are beds for 16 people and we thought it might be fun to bring our spouses over to enjoy this beautiful home. Diane and Kim were so easy to work with. I even got a hug from Diane when we stopped at the Log Den for dinner. That, too, was a very good choice! All five of us highly recommend the Honey Dew Lodge and are hoping to stay there again. Thank to the Lautenbach family for a memorable Sibling Outing!
We were looking for a place to celebrate our 50 wedding anniversary with our family. We had 14 our family for the week. Great place to stay to get to everywhere, golf, shopping, wine tasting, picking cherries. We had a campfire every night, so many stories and a great time with everyone. We also had family pictures taken when we were there, so many great places to use. Place was clean and well cared for, thanks Wayne and Debbie for making our week special.
Just returned from another great weekend in Door County. Great shopping and fun restaurants. The Honey-Dew Lodge was fantastic. Thank you to Wayne for "stoking the fire" and keeping us toasty warm. Our group has been coming to Door County for over 20 years and the Honey Dew Lodge was a great find. The cabin is beautiful and more than comfortable for the 8 of us. Beautiful views from every window. The fireplace provided great atmosphere for our card games.
We stayed four days after Christmas and had an awesome time!! The house was wonderful, clean, and it felt like home! The home situated in a beautiful location and our children had a great time in the large yard and hiking in the woods. We enjoyed the big, well stocked kitchen which we prepared all of our meals including an awesome meal during the Packers win over "Da Bears". The house had plenty of room for all 13 of us to enjoy the game while we had a roaring fire in the real fireplace (which Steve supplied an abundance of firewood, thanks Steve!!!!!). The owner of the house was kind enough to honor my mother-in-law's desire to for a holiday tablecloth on the dining room table, which she promptly delivered. All in all, a great trip made possible by the Honey Dew Lodge. Thank you. We will recommend to others... and looking forward to coming back soon!!
Our family stayed at the Honey Dew Lodge over Thanksgiving and while the place is large and the space can comfortably accommodate 16, there are some things to consider about renting this home; wall oven did not work making it hard to prepare meals, stairs broken on deck, sliding glass door broken and vey difficult to open and close, a door to the outside broken causing it to continually fly open at all hours, several very awkward untimely "pop in" visits by the owners throughout our stay and very poor communication on behalf of the owners when trying to rent the place- no return phone calls. I realize this place is the owners "second home" but when you are decide to be a rental property you need to give the tenants their space and privacy- it was very uncomfortable and unnecessary to be dropped in on continuously by the owners. The worse part of the experience was after our stay when the owners accused us of not cleaning the place upon our departure. We absolutely left the place spotless. We vacuumed the entire home, did all the dishes, cleaned the kitchen, scrubbed out the refrigerator, emptied the trash, made the beds and folded the towels. Very disappointing to be accused of something we simply did not do! All in all, the place was clean and spacious but in need of several repairs and the management really put a damper on the visit. After reviewing some of the reviews we realized it wasn't just us, some of these same issues have some up for other renters.
