Our family began vacationing in Hiawassee, GA when the children were in middle school. We always rented a condo and would look at the gorgeous scenery and say if we ever had a chance we would love to own property on the lake. We had a chance to acquire our home a few years later and have been coming to the mountains since.
We enjoy swimming and boating on the lake, then taking a break to grill out for lunch. Everyone takes turns in a friendly ping pong competition or shopping in the quaint town of Hiawassee. Of course the Georgia Mountain Fair in July draws people to the fairgrounds for exciting musical performances, crafts and funnelcakes.
We kinda feel like we'll have no need to look for rentals now...we are so in love with your home! That view is gorgeous! We will surely be back. ~Thanks and take care till next time :) Connie
The house was in excellent condition with nice furnishings, mostly glass on the side facing the lake with decks on every level. Many thoughtful touches like a cabinet with board games, a ping pong table, dvd player, and comfortable beds.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! It was very quiet and relaxing! What a fantastic home!
We had 4 adults, a 3 1/2 year old and a 2 month old and we had a fabulous weekend. The house was clean, spacious and had all the supplies we needed (and I am not used to this at other rentals). We enjoyed morning coffee on the deck to take in the lake and ended our day out there as well watching the sunset. Loved how you turned the garage into a play/TV room and we took full advantage of the ping pong table and flat screen to watch college football. The lake was absolutely beautiful and perfect weather topped it off to allow for boating (rental from Boundary Waters Marina, 5 minutes from the house) and swimming. We were a little concerned about the lake level since TVA opens the dam after Labor Day but that was not an issue at all. Hiawassee is a cute North Georgia town and the ride up to the top of Bell Mountain was well worth it - the view was fantastic!!
Last minute, my family decided to go away for the weekend before the weather turned colder. After much VRBO searching, we came across this gem, and I'm so glad we did. Lake Chatuge is one of the most beautiful lakes that we've spent time on, and the house did not disappoint. Its situated practically on top of the water, with very easy access to town. We did some quick shopping at Ingles in town, and seems we were back at the house quickly. The road leading to the house, while narrow, was still easy driving and GPS led us right to our destination. The house is VERY clean. The views are perfect. Doug and Gladys were very accessible. We had to call them to ask about nearest boat ramps and other logistical issues. We brought our boat and put in just outside of town at the new boat ramp. The best way to find it is to waze 863 Shake Rag Road- it will lead you to a store across the street from the ramp. While this ramp is not by land the closest one, its a VERY easy boat ride to the house. The water off the dock is deep and clean and the kids had a fun time jumping into the ice cold water :). They are polar bears. There was a grill and a well stocked kitchen, as well as several decks for gathering. All had amazing views. The beds were comfortable and linens were high end. My favorite part was the converted garage where we let the garage door open while the kids played ping pong and we watched GA beat Notre Dame.
I should also mention that we had a great breakfast buffet in town at a little restaurant called GA Mountain Restaurant. They had pancakes, fried bologna, bacon, sausage, biscuits and Gravy, etc. It was all really good.
The house is attractive, clean , and large. The setting is gorgeous. And the price is straightforward and less than most places in the area. We couldn't believe how pretty it was for what we were paying. I'm glad though, because I had a budget and was able to stay within it thanks to the owners fair pricing. There were not any crazy fees like I see a lot now on VRBO.
We laughed so much on our weekend. It was a breath of fresh air. I can't thank the owners enough for their hospitality.
The house was very welcoming, clean and comfortable. There is plenty of space for a large family to spread out or to gather in the living area. It includes everything you need - although we ate out most of the time as it was just 2 of us and only stayed 2 nights. The big windows offer a great view of the lake and mountains, and let in a lot of natural light. Loved waking up in the morning with the sun beams reflecting off the water onto the loft ceiling.
The town of Hiawassee is only a few minutes away and it's a quick drive to other points of interest in the area like Brasstown Bald and Helen.
We'll be sure to check on this property again when we come back.
Thanks for a beautiful weekeend!
Thanks for the perfect spot for our spring break!
