Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Charming Ocean view home only 400 yards from the beach! (beach pictured in the photos, to see more photos go to facebook and search for Casa Las Olas Todos Santos Rental). Only 2 Miles North of Todos Santos in Las Tunas, one of the most desirable parts of Todos Santos. A quiet, private, relaxing setting for the ones who want to get away without being completely isolated.

The house is situated on a hill overlooking the ocean and mountains. It is surrounded by a lush garden that provides cool shade during the summer months. I have sat on the porch and watched over 20 varieties of birds including many different types of hummingbirds (see facebook page). The Ejido, which is a fresh water channel of spring water coming from the mountains, runs right through the property providing water for this little oasis. The garden and patio area is a private, warm and cozy setting. This makes it a perfect area to barbecue and relax in. There is also a charming outdoor shower with views of the ocean and mountains. A staircase leads to the top of the house with a full deck and sweeping 360 degree views. Recently we added a shaded area to hang in hammocks and lawn chairs for tanning in the private setting. We also have added optional Air Conditioning in both bedroom for our summer visitors wanting a break from the heat.

The kitchen is fully equipped, I live here part time and enjoy the amenities because I like to cook. Our house manager will provide the service of going grocery shopping for guests who want to find food in the refrigerator at their arrival, just give us a grocery list. In the bedrooms all the linens are provided. There are two main bedrooms with a king bed, and a queen, we also have the option of separating the king into two twins for families with kids or guest who don't like to get too cozy :) The master bedroom has private bathroom and the second bedroom uses an other bathroom.

The house is in a very safe neighborhood, which was an important factor for me as a professional photographer who has an extended amount of valuable gear. I feel assured and safe enough to leave my truck open with surfboards and gear in it while it is outside of the house. For the ones with boats or RVs there is a large fenced in area to keep everything contained in the property.

This is a great place to relax. The setting is beautiful and only 2 miles away from Todos Santos with all the amenities and the activities the town has to offer. A well stocked grocery store is a mile away and the beach is short walk down the hill. For surfers, La Pastora surf break is 2 miles north of the house and it can be seen from the roof top. This is my early morning ritual with a cup of coffee at hand. Always want to check the surf before starting the day.

About The Owner

I am Italian (born and raised) and work as a commercial/editorial photographer (if interested google Paolo Marchesi) I have been splitting my life between Montana and Baja. I love the outdoors and both locations allow me to experience nature at its best.

The Owner purchased this house in 2008

Why The Owner chose Baja California Sur

I fell in love with Baja many years ago when I moved to the states from Italy. I did a 500 miles mountain bike trip off road from the Sea of Cortez to the mountains around Loreto. Many miles of dirt and dust that introduced me to the beauty of Baja. 3 years ago, tired of the long Montana winters I decided it was time to buy a house in Baja and spend more time surfing. My most recent passion. Todos Santos is a great location as it has all the amenities but still gives you access to remote parts of Baja.

What makes this house unique

I fell in love with the house as soon as I saw it. It's charming and warm situated in such a nice location. Being able to see La Pastora surf break is a plus. The garden is to die for. Baja can be so dry and harsh and having such a lush garden is a treat. I love watching all the varieties of birds, I can sit on the porch for hours.

I can walk Tobi (my trusty German Short Haired pointer) down to the beach and I can hear the Ocean while I sleep. What else could I ask for?

Not what we expected

  • 3 of 5

The property looked nice in pictures. We wanted to love it but the road to the turtle sanctuary is right outside the house so every evening a bunch of people drive down that road. You can't swim at the beach that's 1/4 mile away so a water feature (like a small pool or jacuzzi - theres plenty of space for that) would really be great.

The living room is not comfortable at all. One couch. Literally. no other seating arrangement available.

The bedrooms are nice and big with good beds. We had a problem with roaches while we were there and a kitchen table chair had broken before we arrived so we had 3 kitchen chairs (there were four of us) during our stay, so we couldn't eat together. The upstairs roof area would have been a good place for table and chairs so you could eat up there and see the mountains.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review, I am sorry the Casa was not what you expected. However you can see from the photographs of the house description that Casa las Olas is not misrepresented on VRBO. There is a very clear photograph of the living room with the one couch and a picture of the rooftop with hammocks and lawn chairs and no table for eating upstairs. We decided to put the outside table downstairs on the patio among the bougainvillea (you can see it in the photos) because is close to the kitchen and you don't have to walk a flight of stairs with dishes and food. The rooftop sounds like a great place to eat but is not practical; it's better to leave it for sunbathing and stargazing. There is no swimmable beach in Todos Santos (though it's a short drive to swimming beaches), and few places have pools. In this desert climate it's very impractical and ecologically irresponsible to maintain a fresh water pool, although a few private residences do. As far as the broken chair I had emailed you to contact our house manager, who is extremely responsive, if you needed a chair while the broken one was fixed. I never heard back from you so I assumed everything was ok. There were also the chairs outside for the outdoor table that could have been used so you could all eat together. The cockroach problem was indeed an issue and we apologize for that. We ask our guests to let us know if there is a problem so we can take care of it. The guest before you let us know so we fumigated before you arrived. This caused a few dying cockroaches to be out on your stay. We avoid using toxic pesticide as much as we can but after this incident we decided to go with a 3 times a year fumigation not to run into these issues. This is my personal house that I share with guests while I am not there and I take pride in how I maintain it and manage it for my rental. Some US guests forget they are in Mexico and they don't understand how difficult it is to have a well functioning rental, which I know mine is. I really appreciate your rental, and strive to make Casa las Olas the most comfortable experience possible, as is indicated by the many positive reviews.

Very Pleasant !

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful area and place to stay. Convenient, private, accessible. Roomy and comfortable. Adequately equipped with great kitchen amenities. Wonderful views. Minor (and not distracting) maintenance issues promptly dealt with. Todos Santos is laid back and inviting. Plenty of comfort. Variety of beaches within 10 km; one of which is only 5 minutes walk. Very responsive manager in the area. We loved it. Including our 6 1/2 year old daughter.
