Manager purchased this cabin in 2008

Why Manager chose Front Range Colorado

We weren't shopping for a cabin, we just wanted to have a look. What we found was pretty unbelievable.

The realtor led us down a long, dark hallway guaranteed to extinguish your soul. At the end was a small room with orange shag carpet, a kitchen with no windows, an odd collection of deer heads and antlers, and 35 years of clutter.

Just before turning around and walking out again, we pulled back the dusty drapes, and when we saw the view, our mouths dropped open. Acres of meadow grass, rock out-cropings, pine forest, and brilliant blue Colorado sky. Beyond that, regal and proud, the Mummy Range with not another home in sight.

Before we knew it, we were signing papers. Then, we woke up.

It was going to take a lot to turn this sad little cabin into a home we would spend a night in. After much deliberation, we decided to gut the entire structure. Cut more windows so we could see the views from every angle. Rewire, re-plumb, and build a new bath. We installed hardwood floors, dressed the kitchen with marble counters, added a wood stove in case the power went out, plopped down some cozy furniture, and let the views do the rest.

We probably should have scraped it, but at the time we didn't think of it. Now that the work is done, the fun part is seeing the reaction of visitors. It appears to be a plain little cabin, but it has a big secret. Because when you step through the door, you're blown away by the charm, comfort, luxurious touches and most of all, the view. Like sitting in a private lookout from a cozy 'Birds Nest.'

We'd love to have you visit and tell us what you think.

What makes this cabin unique

This little cabin is a place where time stands still. You quickly realize how restful it is to unplug from the demands of daily life.

Renew and refresh your spirit, allow yourself the luxury of slowing down. Enjoy the beauty of nature, take a hike, stare at the clouds, do a little daydreaming, build a campfire and marvel at the stars, reconnect with someone you love. And if you must work, help yourself to the free WiFI.

Guestbook comments from the manager

My husband came for a wedding at the Maxwell Ranch and this cabin was perfect! It is so peaceful and quiet and there are beautiful walks right out the door. We would stay again and probably will! Thank you!

Beautiful View & Quiet Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Bird's Nest cabin was a lovely getaway for 2. It was very quiet and peaceful, and the grounds around the cabin offer some great hiking. I would only suggest that the owners consider some kind of window coverings--I realize they kept the windows uncovered so it would let it lots of light and there aren't any neighbors to worry about. But at night with the lights on in the living room, the bugs really swarm around whatever light they find, and the window screens weren't enough to keep them out. It got a little crazy.

Otherwise, the cabin was great and we really enjoyed it. Would totally go back again.
