This cute fishing cabin has the US Forest Service 'Green Cottage Access Site' named after it. It is located on over a mile of private riverfront land in the middle of the 'Flies Only - Catch and Release' section of the Pere Marquette River. Right next door is its bigger brother: 'Red Cabin'. Come to fish, kayak, canoe or just relax on the deck overlooking the river. Kayak, canoe rentals, and grocery store just a mile away.
You will have access to the entire 80 acres to hike, fish or just relax. The cabin, built in the 1930's, has been written up in many fly fishing books as one of the best fly fishing areas for natural reproducing German Brown Trout, Steelhead and of course the Fall Salmon run. No phones, internet - just peace and quiet 'river time'. While not fancy, its location on the river is second to none. A perfect place if you enjoy the river and outdoors.
It is closed for the winter Dec-March. Please see the 'Red Cabin' listing for this time period.

We have owned this property of over 13 years and have in the past allowed only family and friends to use it. We also have our main log cabin residence and the 'Red Cabin' on property. Come see why we love this area. Kim and Pam
Kim or Pam Gary purchased this cabin in 2001
We purchased this property in 2001 and have enjoyed the peacefulness of the river and woods ever since.
This cabin is situated within 10 ft. off the river with excellent access to fishing, kayaking or canoeing. During the summer months, the Forest Service limits rental kayaks/canoes/rafts access from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. only.
The Green Cottage was just perfect! Nestled on the edge of the river to enjoy it's beauty. It is directly next to the river access launch, but this didn't bother us. The cottage is very clean and tidy. The kitchen is small, but adequate for our our needs. The only reason I gave this a 4 vs 5 is because it could use some updated cooking supplies and perhaps new stove. I would most definitely book here again.
Location and view are gorgeous. Literally 6 feet from the river. That said we were very disappointed with the cottage. Everything needs updating. The first thing we noticed was the sagging ceiling tiles and pervasive musty/moldy smell. It appears there have been leaks around the fireplace. The other major issue is that there is not a comfortable bed in the place. A LOT of people can lose sleep here as there are a lot of bunk and twin beds. The shower was so bad that I went to store and bought a new shower head so that the water would spray toward me rather than the ceiling. The price is reasonable and we had a very relaxing stay. Baldwin canoe rental is awesome. Local restaurants are not good at all but Jones ice cream rules. We would return to Baldwin, but probably not the green cottage.
Our family and three other families rented both the Green and Red Cottages over the July 4th weekend. It was just what we needed. No cell phones and no internet for three days, and none of the kids or adults died. A welcome relief from the hurry up busy world that we all live in today.
The river was great, and even though the water was probably only 50 degrees, everyone enjoyed playing and floating down the river after a fun filled day of kayaking.
The view from the bluff overlooking the river is great as you kick back with a drink and wave at the people floating by.
The cottages were dated, but clean and stocked full of everything you needed.
For years I canoed the Pere Marquette and passed the Green Cottage. I had no idea that it was available for rent. The cottage is obviously older, so if you're looking for something shiny, this isn't for you. The cottage is on a bend in the river, so the view in both directions is just beautiful. The cottage is well stocked with pots, pans, etc. They even had a Penguin! (If you don't know what that is, don't feel bad.) I would suggest bringing paper plates and Solo cups to cut down on doing dishes, but that's just my thing.
The only negative is the cottage isn't very secluded. With the boat ramp right there, there was some early morning/evening activity. We were all early risers, so it wasn't a big deal.
Tough to beat the view from this simple but comfortable cottage. Kick back with a drink on the porch and watch the kayakers/canoers try to navigate the twists and turns of the river. Great stay. Thanks for the welcome break from WiFi and cell phones. I slept like a rock every night and returned home nice and refreshed. And the fishing was incredible (challenging) too, but that goes without saying.
This is an excellent vacation property!!!! Our family has been coming here for years and it is always is enjoyable.
In fact we are going twice this year.
Enjoy your stay!!!!!!!!
