Simply built and lushly landscaped for beachside living, Honu offers a comfortable living/dining area and convenient kitchen with newer appliances at the center of the house, with two bedrooms and adjoining baths on opposite ends for privacy. Hardwood floors, expansive windows and ceiling fans throughout add to your comfort. All rooms have ocean views, as well as the covered lanai that overlooks the beautiful yard surrounded by bright purple bougainvillea and strikingly contrasting Royal Poinciana. Mature plantings include Singapore plumeria for lei-making, crown flowers that attract monarch butterflies, tiare gardenia, and fragrant pikake planted just outside the master bedroom.
The yard and plantings also serve to create privacy, while the garden walk gets you right to the beach, where you’ll swim, dive, snorkel and sunbathe while enjoying the manta rays, wintertime whale activity, and of course the enchanting honu.

Lovely home. The view is the best. It is quiet and good for 2 couples. Very much appreciated the beach chairs, umbrella etc. We had a lovely stay.
We recently spent 5 nights at Honu House...two couples...and the house was situated perfectly with a central living area and kitchen, and the bedrooms at the opposite ends of the house. 2 Papayas staff was super-friendly and very easy to work with. The house is in Puako with a short trail to the beach and many places to wander, explore the coast, and do some snorkeling. It is close to Kona, Kailua, and Waimea...the perfect location. The highlight of our trip was driving north up the coast, not far from the property, we saw whales spouting and leaping out of the ocean. It was a beautiful sight and made for a memorable journey to the Big Island. We loved Honu House and will be staying there again when we return. My only recommendation would be cushions for the chairs on the lanai because everyone wants to sit out there for hours and cushions would make it comfortable enough to do so. Old bones can be so unforgiving...
Aloha and Mahalo for a fabulous stay!
We spent two weeks at the Honu House, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. The home was very clean, functional and fully stocked with all essentials! The path to the secluded beach was very short, and the beach itself was perfect - just what the doctor ordered! We would definately stay here again should we return to the Big Island! 2Papayas, the property management company, was wonderful and always responsive to questions - including those related to places to go and where to find the best local food, etc.
We spent a week at HONA house in Puako. It took awhile to write this in that adequate words can not express our happiness in having done so.
Sorry to say we never got to use the kitchen table , son, daughter in law two grand kids and grandparents..not that we couldn't fit, but every meal was outside on the deck , breakfast and dinner, watching sun come up and sink into the sea at night. In between there was a short walk to our own private beach where snorkels were put on , underwater cameras tied to body and snorkeling and taking pictures with huge and I mean huge turtles. The house is laid out for sleeping and the open windows and fans made for natural cooling at night and waking of the birds in the morning.. Once back to California there were a lot of calls and texting going on between all individuals because we missed our being with each other in the HONA house in what the grand kids called Paradise. We all were ready to do a repeat. Thank you so much for a fabulous stay in a beautiful home and setting.
We loved the location with a short walk to the beach !!! And, the shade was fantastic since the sun was very hot
in July. The only thing that would have made it absolutely perfect would have been an air conditioner. House was very well appointed with kitchen utensils, linens, etc. They had everything we needed including beach chairs,
toys for the toddlers, snorkels, and towels. You could hear the waves from the patio !!
Staying at Honu was 24/7 Aloha! My brother and his wife along with my husband and I stayed at Honu for 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was wonderfully set up for two couples (and would be very good for a family of 4 or 5 as well) with bedrooms at opposite ends of the house and the common living area, kitchen, lanai in the middle. It is situated up a little bit from the beach so that you feel completely private (you can still hear the gentle waves) but is only a 100 steps (I counted!) to a wonderful, shaded bay with superb swimming and snorkeling for beginners and advanced alike. We walked down to the beach every night for wondrous sunsets and happened to be there for the new moon/Jupiter/Venus gathering over the Hawaii blue ocean in the western sky. We will always remember this magical sight. There is so much good stuff that I'm not mentioning but reading other reviews, will give you the full picture. One other very fun feature is the outdoor (very private) shower with hot and cold water. Luxury! We had excellent service, responsiveness and recommendations from 2 Papayas from the start and will happily return and refer this property and 2 Papayas to anyone.
We returned to the Honu house on Wailea Bay for another fantastic visit. We have rented various houses from 2 Papaya on Wailea Bay for over 15 years. The houses have always been well maintained, clean and allowed for wonderful visits. We have brought grown kids and grandchildren and friends. Every visit to Wailea Bay has been incredible. The Honu house is our very favorite place. We will return soon and often always to this incredible place.
