Cottage, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6)
On the shore of the most beautiful bay in Northern Door County, Cappy Cottage is a lovingly cared for family retreat nestled in a forest of cedar, pine, and birch trees. There is over 300 feet of private shoreline facing east over North Bay and Lake Michigan. You must be warned that your early mornings may be interrupted by incredible sunrises. Fortunately, you will be able to make up the lost sleep as the only sounds you hear at night are the breeze in the trees and the crackling of the Milky Way overhead.
North Bay Drive is a very quiet, little traveled road which makes it a perfect place for couples to spend a quiet week or a family with kids to safely run amok in the summer sun The woods surrounding Cappy have many “secret spots” to explore and the beach is full of fossil bearing rocks dating back to when the area was under a tropical sea. The water off Cappy’s beach shallows gradually and warms sooner than many of the Door County beaches. The north end of the bay is a wonderful playground of sand flats and shallow water.
The yard in front of Cappy is an inviting place to while away a summer afternoon reading and snoozing. It features the oldest, intact shuffle board court in Door County. (though mostly used for sidewalk chalk art these days). At the end of a day spent adventuring in the County, you have a grill and picnic table for a cookout or you can prepare dinner in Cappy’s well equipped kitchen.
Best of all, Cappy offers the charms of the Quiet Side of Door County yet is 10 minutes away from all the activities in the villages and our terrific parks.
There is a master bedroom with a king and another room with 4 twins (bunk beds).
But don’t take our word for it! Quotes from the Cappy Cottage guest book:
* 'We had a wonderful time at Cappy Cottage. It felt like the coveted invitation to a relative's cabin......thanks for sharing your family's legacy with us.'
* 'My wife searched this space out and, while I am impossible to please, I have not a single complaint. Our 5 year old knew we chose a winner once he saw the marble run in the children's room.'
* 'We have stayed a many cabins in a lot of different places and Cappy truly rates at the top. Great ammenities. Great ambiance. Love the tender touches of years gone by.'

Just the thing!
Cappy Cottage was the perfect place for our end of summer getaway. It is a charming family cottage with nostalgic touches throughout. Our family spent hours playing board games and sitting around the fire in the fire pit on the private area of beach. The sunrises were spectacular. Everything that Door County has to offer is in close proximity. What a joy to head back to the peace and quiet of Cappy Cottage at the end of a long day exploring.
We spent three days at Cappy Cottage and loved every minute. The location cannot be beat -- you have privacy anc quiet, but excellent restaurants, bakeries, shopping and touristy stuff (we loved the drive-in movie in Ephraim) are only minutes away. The cabin itself is adorable, with lovely decor, comfy beds and couches, toys for the kids and gorgeous views of the woods and lake. Please keep in mind that this cabin is a lovingly cared-for family treasure, so you won't have the air-conditioning, wifi and dishwasher that you may depend on at home -- that is part of the simplicity and charm of this very special place.
Door County Week Stay
The stay at the cottage was pleasant but needed some updating. The DVD player did not play most of the DVD's we brought (which weren't even blu rays). The mattresses on the bunk beds were very uncomfortable. Too hard and when you are spending a week there you want to be comfortable and not wake up with a sore back. Also, there were many rules that we were not made aware of such as having to launder our towels when our stay was over, having to sleep under a sheet so that we don't dirty the comforters because apparently they aren't washed all the time, etc. Also the view to the lake and firepit were deceiving from the pictures. The lake was actually across the street from the cabin and the firepit was across the street as well and down a flight of stairs. Would strongly recommend the owners update the DVD player and mattresses.
We are sorry to hear you were disappointed in your stay. We (the management company) will let the owner know that it is time for new twin mattresses and a new DVD player. Maybe you were trying to play burned DVDs rather than store-purchased ones? Though of course a DVD player wouldn't play a blu-ray disc. If the property is outfitted with a blu-ray player at some point, we will certainly advertise it as an amenity.
We are sorry to hear this renter felt they were not informed about the rules prior to renting the property, because our policies are clearly stated in our rental agreement that all renters must complete and return with their payment. It is unfortunate when renters feel surprised and state that they were unaware of our policies when these same policies regarding the towels and sheets are clearly listed within the rental agreement. For example, these renters called during their stay and asked for more toilet paper (we only provide a starter supply), which our rental agreement clearly states.
Finally, regarding the fire pit and the road the renter mentions: the first and third picture on the listing clearly show the road and the lake. One shows the yard, the road, and the lake beyond it. Additionally, the listing states, under the "Accommodations" heading within the property description, "Fire Pit on the Beach." We are not sure how this renter felt deceived by the pictures as again the road is pictured and the fire pit is advertised as being on the beach, not in the yard.
Also, we would like to note that the road is a little-traveled side road, only ventured on by those living or staying on the road and the occasional bird-watcher. Very peaceful and not at all inconvenient to cross in order to access the water.
We are disappointed that the renter did not mention that during their stay, the pilot light for the fireplace unfortunately went out. They left a message with our office after hours one evening and then called back first thing when we opened the next day, and we promptly had the pilot light lit again by early that same afternoon. We are glad we were able to provide such prompt service regarding the pilot light and sorry to see that they felt the need to leave this imperfect review as a follow up to their stay.
Located within minutes of five state natural areas and not much further from two of Door County's five state parks, this quiet location on North Bay (a body of water on Lake Michigan) is surrounded by nature yet conveniently near to the villages that comprise Door County. Closest to this cottage are Sister Bay, Ephraim, and Baileys Harbor, which boast golf courses, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, libraries, shopping, live music, and outdoor theater.
