About Tripp Bassett, Owner

Motivated by his love of the Catskill region’s natural beauty and his commitment to promoting sustainability as a way of life, Tripp Bassett passionately devoted three years to restoring the historic barn into an idyllic country sanctuary. An avid devotee of architecture and interior design, he used his professional eye for detail and aesthetics as well as the skills and talents of his renowned team of collaborators to bring to life his vision of Barn on the Pond. A native of Roswell, New Mexico, he spent his childhood exploring his mother’s garden, a place where his appreciation for the wonders of the outdoors was born and nurtured. Over the years, this matured and developed into an environmental awareness that led him to follow the ecological concept of Seven Generation Sustainability, which urges the current generation to live in a way that benefits the seventh generation into the future – something he was conscious of in all aspects of designing the Barn and its property. It is also through this movement and way of living that he developed his strong sense of community and collaboration.

Tripp is a highly creative and innovative graphic designer based in New York City whose eponymous firm, Tripp Bassett Design, is known in the industry for excellence in broadcast, print and package design; and strategic campaigns for branding, advertising, logo, and Web interface development. Bank of America, Bantam Books, Breyer’s Ice Cream, Continental Airlines, Pitney Bowes, Scholastic and Showtime have been among his major clients.

Amazing Property, Perfect for Weekend Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My group stayed at the Barn on the Pond during MLK weekend and to put things simply, we are hoping to go back! To start, the house is absolutely stunning. The common area is huge. Everything in the pictures are accurate and the house comes with literally everything our group needed. We had a former professional chef in my group and he said the kitchen was amazing and came equipped with everything we needed. Additionally, the home is very well insulated and the bathrooms are extremely clean. The outdoor backyard and deck areas are beautiful, and that huge fire pit was a big big favorite with my group.

Secondly, Tripp is great property manager. I've rented many homes in the past and he was definitely among the best I've ever worked with. For example, he set us up with a fire wood provider before we arrived and they had the pit all ready to go with the light of a match. I'll definitely keep in touch with him and the Barn on the Pond for another visit soon.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your eloquent feedback, Paul. It's encouraging to hear from a savvy renter that my management skills are among the best and from your professional chef that the kitchen gets a big thumbs up. It was a pleasure hosting your group and we hope for another visit soon!

Spacious kitchen, polished decor, delightful details abound

  • 5 of 5

I rented Barn on the Pond for a large gathering over several days, and the space was perfect for our needs. First of all, the kitchen is professional-class, with double burners, large ovens, and many pots and pans to use. This made it easy and enjoyable to make meals together. It was a real treat to see everyone seated around the table in the low light, surrounded by the tasteful decor. It's worth mentioning- this is a converted barn, but the interior is polished and comfortable- a very attractive space with art and small surprises around every corner. Very good for entertaining, especially with all the surprising spaces around every corner.

I was concerned going in that the floor heating wouldn't be enough, but my fears were completely relieved as the floor heating, the gas fireplace, and having many people in the barn warmed it up to the point that we opened doors for airflow. Very comfortable even in winter.

One of the best things about the barn is the location- there are many services in the area that make it easy to entertain. We ordered meats from the excellent butcher in town, used local catering for a few meals, and also ordered cases of wine from a local wine ship. We had firewood delivered from next door, which was convenient- the fire pit ended up being a real highlight of the trip. Given it's relatively close to NYC, this makes for a convenient escape.

Tripp, the host, is very gracious and stayed in close communication whenever we needed anything. I would strongly recommend Barn on the Pond for getaways, reunions, or other special events.

Book the Barn!

  • 5 of 5

Stop looking at other places and BOOK the Barn on the Pond! We had an absolutely WONDERFUL time. It's everything described and more; the kind of space you step into, immediately take a deep breath, and just relax. It is particularly well designed for large groups to spend time together, which is a very hard find! There were 13 of us together to celebrate my Mom's 70th birthday and it was somehow miraculously designed for all of us -age 3 to 73. The interior decor is incredible, the kitchen fully stocked with appliances to make cooking in a breeze, and the couches, deep, soft, and sink-into-for-the-entire-night comfortable. And the process of reserving, paying, and staying was incredibly professional, to boot. Book it; you won't regret it!

Fantastic house, great for groups

  • 5 of 5

I spent a weekend at Barn on the Pond with 15 friends for my bachelorette weekend. The common space is beautiful and is perfect for large groups, and the kitchen/bathrooms/bedrooms have absolutely everything you need from cookware to extra sheets and towels. The wraparound porch on the 2nd floor is incredible, and the outdoor fire pit was perfect for our group. We had a few sleeping in the trailer which was extremely comfortable as well. We had an amazing weekend and I'd recommend the house to anyone!

Fabulous house, fabulous property!

  • 5 of 5

We were all thrilled that the house was exactly as advertised. I feel like that rarely happens! We had such a great stay and the hosts were so helpful and responsive to any questions/concerns we had! My ONLY complaint would be that we had a lot of flies!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words, Joanna. It took us a while to figure out previous guests had ripped the screen door in a hard to see place, so the flies were OBNOXIOUS. Apologies but we promise the problem has been remedied for your next stay!

Rustic, Smart, Stylish, Comfy and Amazing all in ONE Dwelling

  • 5 of 5

Barn on the Pond is one of the most unique and special dwellings I've ever experienced. No detail is spared. The house comes LOADED with everything you need like high tech gadget stuff, way to hook my phone into Apple TV, easy access internet, and that KITCHEN is to die for. The tub downstairs is amazing, and the view out to the trees, mountain and pond is priceless. I spent hours swinging in that outdoor floating air bed watching the clouds go by. Don't forget the marshmallows, the firepit is outrageously awesome and if you pre-order wood you'll be set to burn it up all weekend long. Tripp is a fabulous host, so hospitable and his staff were all so friendly and quick to answer questions. If you're heading upstate, and you can find an available weekend, stay at Barn on the Pond. Can't wait til our next visit.
