About Tripp Bassett, Owner

Motivated by his love of the Catskill region’s natural beauty and his commitment to promoting sustainability as a way of life, Tripp Bassett passionately devoted three years to restoring the historic barn into an idyllic country sanctuary. An avid devotee of architecture and interior design, he used his professional eye for detail and aesthetics as well as the skills and talents of his renowned team of collaborators to bring to life his vision of Barn on the Pond. A native of Roswell, New Mexico, he spent his childhood exploring his mother’s garden, a place where his appreciation for the wonders of the outdoors was born and nurtured. Over the years, this matured and developed into an environmental awareness that led him to follow the ecological concept of Seven Generation Sustainability, which urges the current generation to live in a way that benefits the seventh generation into the future – something he was conscious of in all aspects of designing the Barn and its property. It is also through this movement and way of living that he developed his strong sense of community and collaboration.

Tripp is a highly creative and innovative graphic designer based in New York City whose eponymous firm, Tripp Bassett Design, is known in the industry for excellence in broadcast, print and package design; and strategic campaigns for branding, advertising, logo, and Web interface development. Bank of America, Bantam Books, Breyer’s Ice Cream, Continental Airlines, Pitney Bowes, Scholastic and Showtime have been among his major clients.

Fabulous house, fabulous property!

  • 5 of 5

We were all thrilled that the house was exactly as advertised. I feel like that rarely happens! We had such a great stay and the hosts were so helpful and responsive to any questions/concerns we had! My ONLY complaint would be that we had a lot of flies!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for the kind words, Joanna. It took us a while to figure out previous guests had ripped the screen door in a hard to see place, so the flies were OBNOXIOUS. Apologies but we promise the problem has been remedied for your next stay!

Rustic, Smart, Stylish, Comfy and Amazing all in ONE Dwelling

  • 5 of 5

Barn on the Pond is one of the most unique and special dwellings I've ever experienced. No detail is spared. The house comes LOADED with everything you need like high tech gadget stuff, way to hook my phone into Apple TV, easy access internet, and that KITCHEN is to die for. The tub downstairs is amazing, and the view out to the trees, mountain and pond is priceless. I spent hours swinging in that outdoor floating air bed watching the clouds go by. Don't forget the marshmallows, the firepit is outrageously awesome and if you pre-order wood you'll be set to burn it up all weekend long. Tripp is a fabulous host, so hospitable and his staff were all so friendly and quick to answer questions. If you're heading upstate, and you can find an available weekend, stay at Barn on the Pond. Can't wait til our next visit.

Production company

  • 5 of 5

Had an amazing stay! Wanted to get away with my cast and crew of our production company.

The house was GORGEOUS and the property nice and private despite close neighbors. Favorite part was the air stream trailer. So cool! Will definitely be booking here again for future after events.

Thanks for a great stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks for making us part of your production celebration. We hosted the Woodstock Film Festival closing party here a couple of years ago. Maybe we'll see your film there someday?! Look forward to your return.

Amazing Hidden Gem in The Catskills

  • 5 of 5

Barn on The Pond is the perfect weekend escape, vacation destination for relaxation, and beautiful venue for a variety of events.

We were lucky enough to stay for a beautiful week in October at the peak of the leaves changing in beautiful weather. The minute we stepped into the home, we were immediately in vacation mode-- it's hard not to be with its serene property, beautiful high open ceilings and a welcoming decor. The kitchen was made for entertaining, whether that's hosting a holiday for family, pepping for an event, or simply cooking dinner for 2 or 12. The bedrooms are all warm and inviting and to sit by the fire-- either inside in the living room listening to records or outside upstairs, cozied up looking out into the mountains with a drink-- is heaven.

There's a beautiful fire pit that we sat with friends around with a beer to catch up and roast some s'mores and the airbed (basically an XL hammock) is the ideal way to lose track of time staring at the sky.

To look out of our windows or sit on the upper back porch with coffee looking out at the pond and the background of trees and mountains was perfect.

Every amenity was thoughtfully in place. Tripp and his team have thought of everything and go out of their way to make sure your trip is comfortable, enjoyable and memorable.

We were a group of 11 + a our dog and had the best time, even hosting our annual pumpkin beer tasting. There's no lesser accommodations though, even the airstream (about 100 feet from the house) was roomy, funky and fun to stay in.

This is a wonderful hidden gem and we look forward to coming back in the future.

Idyllic paradise

  • 5 of 5

I stayed for a week at the fabulous Barn on the Pond with a bunch of friends, and loved every minute.

The Barn on the Pond is conveniently located - a short and scenic drive into Woodstock, where you can find some good stores, restaurants, weekend flea market and a river with beautiful water holes to swim in.

Tripp the owner is great: polite, funny, extremely accommodating and goes beyond the call of duty.

The place was clean, comfortable, beautifully designed, luxurious, grand, bohemian and posh.

The kitchen made me love cooking (which I usually detest)! For a couple of nights, and a morning (when it was my turn to cook) I was Gordon Ramsey (with only a fraction of the swearing).

The Barn and the grounds are huge with different nooks and crannies to hang out in - one night we roasted marshmallows on the bonfire in the garden, the next night we laid around on sofas on the upstairs balcony eating posh pizza and wine with an open fire burning in the hearth, other nights we celebrated with home cooked meals at the long dining table. We had lazy afternoons chatting peacefully, swinging slowly on the giant dream catcher swing looking up at the Dr. Seuss trees, then cooled off by dangling our feet into the cool water of the pond watching frogs, listening to the sound of birds singing and crickets buzzing. So beautiful. It was like Christopher Robin had grown up to be Gatsby and was hanging out by the pond with good friends.

It's the kind of place that nurtures life long memories. I will always recommend this wonderful place to friends and family, and I look forward to staying here next summer. Staying here is everything summer should be; It's an idyllic paradise.

A taste of upscale country life close to the city

  • 5 of 5

This time last week I was at Barn On The Pond, sitting round the firepit with a group of friends roasting marshmallows under a giant full moon. The 9 of us had the Barn for about a week and it made for a perfect country getaway. It was easy to get to without a car from NYC (bus to kingston + cab) and we took plenty of groceries so that we didn't need to head into Woodstock or Saugerties unless we fancied dining out or takeaway pizza. One afternoon four of us sat in the secret alcove on the upper deck for 3 or 4 hours, lounging on pillows and drinking wine as cicadas buzzed and the sky gently changed from blue to orange to mauve to black. It's a memory that'll sustain me until the next time I'm there.
