The Kona Coast of the Big Island of Hawaii offers stunning natural beauty and some of the best and most reliable good weather to be found in the Hawaiian Islands. The Big Island is a treasure trove of Hawaiian history that spans the first ancient Polynesian discovery of the islands to the present. The Kona Coast is a tropical playground of small isolated sandy beaches and home to one of the world's most productive bill fishing grounds. On the east side of the Big Island, the erupting Kilauea volcano expands the island's size, while at the top of Mauna Kea, some of the world's most powerful telescopes expand man's knowledge of the universe. Jerry Geissler, and Mike and Paula Schnarr are proud to offer their condo for your use. Mike and Jerry are retired firefighters from California who also happen to be pretty handy at construction work, having built several homes on the mainland. When our condo was purchased, it was completely original from the date it was built. Our remodel work started with the removal of everything from the condo. It was stripped to the bare concrete walls before we started the rebuilding process. Even the old 'popcorn' ceilings were stripped, and all ceilings and walls re-textured and painted. Custom cherry cabinets for the kitchen and all three baths were ordered and shipped from the mainland. All bath tub surrounds were stripped and refitted with new tile. A large, custom shower was constructed for the master bath. While Mike and Jerry were busy with all this construction, Paula and Janine were in full shopping mode. They selected solid teak for most of the furniture. New towels, linens, bedspreads and curtains were also procured. The kitchen outfitted with new cookware, dishes, silverware and small appliances. We wanted the condo to have a very Hawaiian feel to it, but we also consciously avoided the usual pure white walls and bamboo furniture that is seen in many condos. All of our colors, textures, and furniture was hand picked, one piece at a time. Although the girls did most of the work selecting all this stuff, Mike and Jerry were instrumental in the selection and installation of the 42' flat-screen TV. We hope you will feel instantly comfortable here, just as we do when we come.
Jerry purchased this condo in 2007
The Kona Pacific complex is an undiscovered gem on the Kona Coast. Many of the condos that we considered purchasing were of wooden construction, and poorly maintained....and it showed. Kona Pacific is a refreshing change from that. It is constructed completely of concrete, and meticulously maintained. I suspect it looked much the way it does now when it was new. So, we were sold on the quality construction, perfect maintenance, and the manicured grounds and pool. Pride of ownership shows all over this place.
The second thing that attracted us to the Kona Pacific was the perfect location. It is far enough from the breaking waves to be peacefully quiet, yet close enough to get a good ocean view from the lanai. It is a short walk to a great little sandy beach with showers, bathrooms, grass and shade. A short walk north leads you to the Historic Kailua Village. Being able to walk to amenities and entertainment is priceless.
One of our favorite things to do here, is walking to the village. In the morning, you can't beat KONA coffee and breakfast while overlooking Kailua Bay. Huggo's on the Rocks, and the Lava Java are our favorites, and two of the first places you come to on your walk.
In the evening, a short walk across the street will take you to the Royal Kona Resort and is one of the bests places to watch the sun set. One of our fondest memories is sitting at the Royal Kona, sipping on a Mai Tai and watching the cruise ships sail off into the sunset....literally.
Sometimes when we can't decide what to do for dinner, we just walk into the village to see what looks good. There is always something going on at one of the eateries.....somebody will have two dollar mai tais or other specials that are always a good place to start. Then, you can walk further down Alii to find a good place to eat. The historic Kona Inn has fabulous ocean view dinning. They have a formal dining room, and a seating area near the bar that offers more affordable, quicker fare. After dinner, it's time for ice cream and a stroll. There are countless little ice cream and shaved ice shops in the village. We still haven't found them all, and they all have their own unique flavors. It's the perfect way to end your evening before heading back home.
This is a great condo all around for Kona. This is our 2nd time staying here in this same unit. The complex is very quiet and very close (walking distance) to all the restaurants on Ali'i Drive. We had a great time and are looking forward to staying there again.
At first it was hard to find, luckily we had someone with a GPS. Second, parking is for compact cars so it made it hard on us for parking as well, but Id say we still had a good spot in the garage, close to both elevators and just right when you entered the garage :) kept the car nice and cold! Loved the pool :) didn't get to try the grill sadly :/ but we had an awesome time! :) Just wish we had a condo closer to the ocean view would've been nice :) overall It was an awesome stay! :) nice facilities! coming from Alaska, we all weren't use to seeing HUGE bugs! lol but heard there's no stopping them. But I'd love to go back for another vacation :) maybe for my wedding one day :) the landlords were so nice and made our stay easier :) wish we could've stayed longer!! the third bathroom made it really easy with so much of us staying together :) the couch had an air up mattress what made it easier for all of us to fit :) there was boogie boards available for us to use :) + beach towels, after sun lotion, beach bags, chairs, and first aid kit so we didn't have to worry about buying much beach stuff :) Loved the bedrooms :) showers n baths, everything just worked perfect :)
Before starting my review I want to point out the owners are great to work with. Communication from the get go was spot on and they have a very nice, spotless and well kept condo. The grounds & pool are very well maintained as well
We spent a lot of time searching for a place that would accommodate 2 couples. This condo was beyond anything we expected! Both couples had nicely decorated bedrooms with a full bath plus a sliding glass door onto the lanai. Plus the condo also has a third bathroom and washer/dryer. The condo is fully stocked, too many items too list! The location of the condo is in a great spot. Walking distance to the beach, shops and places to eat. If you like Fish & Chips try Quinn's by the Sea, yum! Do go to the Market Place and get some fresh mangos, papayas, bananas, ect and make a fresh smoothie. Simply delish in the morning while gazing at the ocean. We rented a car because we wanted to explore the whole island. There's so much to see & do! Here's a list of a few things we really enjoyed *2-Step-great snorkeling for both the beginner and the experienced. *Black Sand Beach-you'll most likely see Sea Turtles nesting on the beach. *Greenwells Farm (Kona coffee farm tour-free) Tim was our guide, really enjoyed him. *Hapuna Beach is another place we liked (as well as the beaches the owners mentioned in the description) As we left the beach a guy that was flying out the next day gave us his body board. He bought it at Costco, had a blast on it but didn't want to haul it home. We left it in the condo for others to enjoy. Leave your mark on it, looking forward to seeing how many people sign it as they pass through this gem of a condo. The lava beds on the way to Hapuna beach are amazing and if you look closely there's a pull off spot to where you can walk down into a lava tube. If you're looking for a massage try Body Rhythms Spa (Mothers Day Gift from my husband) Ask for Daisy, you won't be disappointed.
Hilo side is more tropical & wetter, beautiful! Should you decide to check out the volcano park be prepared for rain just in case. Trust me, shorts & a tank top in the rain is chilly! Also check out Rainbow Falls and the Market Place while there. Our 9 day vacation is something we will always remember. Thank you Jerry, Paula & Tom for sharing your condo! We will be back!
We really enjoyed our stay at the Kona Pacific. The location is great. Close the Airport and within walking distance of restaurants and shops. The Condo is nicely equipped and comfortable. There are several secluded beaches within fairly close driving range. The Costco is also close so it is a good place to stock up and get gas. You definitely need a car if you are going to explore the island, but not if you are just going to stay close to the Condo. We used the common barbecue a couple of times and the pool facilities were nice. I would stay her again. It was very nice. The property was clean and well maintained and the owners communicated well. I gave it 5 stars because I found nothing lacking.
My husband and I, and his two daughters (ages 13 & 11) stayed in this condo for almost a week. For the first part of our trip, my husband and I got married and stayed in one of the resorts in Kona (in a honeymoon suite). I don't think I will ever stay in a hotel in Kona again after staying in this condo. We should have stayed in the condo for the beginning of our trip too! This was our first time staying in a vacation rental, so we were a little apprehensive, but everything exceeded our expectations! We had a lot of special requests, and Jerry made sure every single one of them was met. He absolutely went above and beyond to help us, and to make us feel at home. The condo is so comfortable and homey, yet still felt very lavish. We felt as if we were being spoiled at home. The lanai was wonderful, we spent most of our time out there. It's fully furnished, has ceiling fans, overlooks the pool, and you can see the ocean. The condo was great for my husband's daughters because they had their own room, bathroom, and privacy. We could walk to everything Kona has to offer, the beach is right across the street, but the condo is slightly removed from the hustle and bustle of Ali'i Drive, so we felt very safe. The furniture, décor, appliances, etc. are all top-notch, and everything was so clean and comfortable. The washer/dryer, WIFI, cable, kitchen appliances, air conditioning, toilets, etc. were all in perfect working order. It's an added bonus that the condo has two reserved parking spaces which are underground, so our car was always cool! There was never any other guests or residents in the pool, so we had free range of the pool area. We can't ever imagine staying in a hotel again. We visit Kona at least once a year, and we will be staying in this condo from now on. If you are staying in Kona (for whatever reason), you don't need to look at any other vacation rentals, this is the best!
My husband, infant and I spent a week in Kona for my brother's wedding at the Royal Kona and this condo met our every need. We've stayed at many VRBOs in the past and this was by far the best place we've stayed yet. The pictures do not adequately capture the size of the rooms or the lanai. The rooms in the condo are spacious and tastefully decorated. All the furniture was incredibly comfortable, including the beds. We particularly enjoyed the rocking chairs on the lanai. We spent a lot of time on the lanai (which was huge, had a nice breeze, and had a view of the pool and ocean) having coffee, playing cards, and reading. The unit was very clean. The building was quiet and is well-maintained.
The location is fantastic - within walking distance to a ton of places to eat and a short drive to Safeway/Target/Walmart, beaches, golf courses, etc..
We took advantage of the community grills, tables and pool house in the pool area for a mini-BBQ with other family members - which we had all to ourselves.
The kitchen was well stocked with supplies. The front closet had towels, coolers, bug spray and sunhats.
The owner responded promptly, answered all of my questions, and even arranged for a pack-n-play to be available for us. One of the owners stopped by to make sure we didn't need anything and recommended some great beaches for us to visit with our little one.
I would absolutely recommend this unit to anyone visiting Kona.
There is a public transportation trolly availble that travels from the Kailua Village to Keauhou Shopping center with many stops in between and it can be caught at the Royal Kona just across the road, there are several botanical gardens, coffee farms, historical tours and luaus, the Kailua Village often has live intertainment for free in the evenings on the boardwalk
