Dubois is located in a valley between the Absaroka and Wind River mountain ranges. The rustic log buildings that line the main street look much as they did when the town was first settled in the late 1800's.
Native Americans, fur traders, homesteaders, outlaws, and tie hacks are all part of the area's diverse cultural heritage. Legendary outlaw Butch Cassidy even spent a fall and winter living near Dubois.
The area is home to the largest herd of bighorn sheep in the lower 48 states. Several thousand elk winter around Dubois, and watchful visitors can easily spot mule deer and moose.
A varied selection of special events is part of the Dubois experience. Beginning with Winterfest in February, there's something happening almost every month. Dubois' Headwaters Center is home to a national juried art show in July. Beginning in June, a family–oriented rodeo and a chuckwagon dinner are held weekly. The Sheep Center and Dubois Museum offer free weekly interpretive programs.
Many delightful restaurants, art shops, and breathtaking scenery abound.

We are a family of five located in Southern California. This property is for us to enjoy the great outdoors, and to get away from the busy lifestyle in SoCal. We enjoy fly-fishing, rafting on the Wind River, hiking, and horseback riding. This is a slice of heaven and must be seen to be enjoyed.
Julie purchased this Cabin in 2006

The cabin and property along the Wind River was magnificent. It was perfect for the two of us but could accommodate two more with no problem. We would rent from Julie and Lee again in the future.

My husband and I have been visiting Dubois for about 13 years now and have stayed in various accommodations depending on the size of our family group traveling with us. This time it was just the two of us. The Carter cabin and property were perfect for us ... roomy for two and immaculate ... well equipped in every way. The views were spectacular and the resident Mule Deer as entertained by us as we were by them. They waited for the blinds to go up every morning so they could watch us. Having private access to the Wind River was a dream come true for my husband. He was in the river morning and evening. We loved the proximity to the town and the multiple day trips we took to Brooks Lake, Warm Springs, Horse Creek, East Fork, Whiskey Mountain, The Shoshone National Forest and Jackson Hole. We would definitely love to stay again in the future! Doug and Lisa from Indiana
Thank you so much, Lisa and Doug! We appreciate the good care you took of the cabin, and we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay!
Our stay at the cabin was wonderful. It was all it was advertised to be and more. It was comfortable, beautiful and a home away from home. We enjoyed watching the deer in the field next to the house. Town was close enough that we could get anything we needed. Only about an hour long beautiful drive to the Grand Teton Park. Would certainly recommend a stay here to other travelers.
Thank you kindly for the lovely review. We certainly appreciate it, and we appreciate the good care that you took of it. We hope that you will be back next year! Most Kind Regards!!!
We were lucky to stay here recently for 5 nights. The cabin, on the Wind River in Wyoming had everything we needed. After long days out in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone it was a pleasure to come home to every night and relax in this lovely home. The outlook from the decks across to the Canyon walls was spectacular. Waking up to the beautiful colours and the deer in the next field was very special. Steve even managed some success with his fly rod on the river. A really memorable stay for us. Thank you for providing such a lovely place for us to call home for a few days.
Thank you so much! You both win the prize for the longest voyage to the beautiful state of Wyoming. Thank you for treating the cabin so well.
All of our very best!
Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, are each approximately an hour and a half by car. Each of these beautiful parks is a FULL DAY's trip. Nearby Dubois are the wonderful petroglyphs, Lander, Riverton, fishing lakes, etc. http://mailchi.mp/windriver/road-trips-through-wyomings-wind-river-country?e=2b6a0b0bb8
