My husband, Erik, and I, moved to Camden from Florida in 2016. Immediately, we fell in love with Camden and the beautiful surrounding area, so much so that we decided to make the life-changing decision to relocate our family here. Erik retired from the US Air Force, so the move here really has been a lifestyle change as well as a life-changing one. I am British and Camden really offers a home-from-home "English" feel. The history of our house is an interesting one - the previous owners bought the house in 1996. It had been empty and neglected for the previous three years before that. Our whole home, which we call 'Capt Taylor', had been originally built by a sea captain in 1903 and it has now been lovingly restored into a beautiful family home. 'Capt Smith' is the name given to our vacation rental apartment.
Jen purchased this Apartment in 1996
Why Jen chose Camden
The proximity to town and its amenities was one of the major reasons for choosing to buy this house. Camden is a bustling little town with lots of things going on all year. We want our home to feel like your home while you're here.
What makes this Apartment unique
This a 'home-away-from-home' place to stay! You'll love a leisurely walk to the harbor for breakfast, lunch or dinner at one of Camden's many fine restaurants, a sunset cruise on a schooner and afterwards relaxing on your front porch with a glass of wine. For those looking for a more energetic vacation, we have Mt Battie on our doorstep with great hiking trails. And not having to drive and find somewhere to park is truly a great benefit.

The apartment was beautiful!
This was a great place to stay with everything you need! It’s extremely close to downtown Camden!
Thank you Peter. We look forward to seeing you again at Capt Smith!
Perfect, we loved it. Perfect location.
Jen & Eric were great hosts. The apartment is beautiful. It's perfect for 2 couples. It's got everything you need for self-catering. Walking distance to Camden. We were able to drive to different towns & back for day trips. We throughly enjoyed the area & will go back at some point. It was a perfect time of year, not too crowded.
My sister, 2 (adult) nieces and I stayed here for "Girls Weekend". It was the perfect space, everything you might need, decorated lovely, beds comfortable. What more could you ask for? Eric and Jen, the owners who live upstairs, were there to help if needed but not intrusive. The layout would be perfect for 2 couples.
Camden is a great small town . It is right on the water with nice shops and restaurants. Also short distance to other coastal Maine towns, like Belfast ,Rockland.
A warm, inviting gem of a home in the heart of Camden. A beautiful place to stay.
We had a short vacation stay in Camden in October 2017 and found this wonderful property that felt just like home. The house has three separate living areas. We rented the 3 bedroom, 2 bath apartment on the lower level of the house. There is another apartment on the lower level as well and the owners occupy their home upstairs. Jen and Eric (the owners) greeted us the night we arrived and we invited them in for a glass of wine. We got to know each other and immediately felt comfortable with our choice of vacation home. The apartment has all the amenities you need. It is beautifully kept up and in pristine condition. We started our days with coffee and lobster rolls eaten in the quaint kitchen or on the home's beautiful side porch. Just a short walk to town (about 2 blocks) brought us to the Camden Deli where we ordered our lobster rolls every morning for breakfast. We spent each day seeing the wonderful sights from Bar Harbor to Boothbay Harbor and returned every night to this wonderful property. If we had had more time, we would have cooked some fresh lobsters at the house. There is a grill on the porch and stockpots (or whatever you need) in the kitchen. We wanted to do this on our last night and invite Jen and Eric to join us but we got home too late from our excursion for that day. We absolutely will be back in Camden in the near future (this was our 9th trip) and will plan on staying at this beautiful home once again. If you are planning a trip to Maine, check to see if this property is available and book it. You will enjoy every aspect of your vacation home! It is truly your home away from home. If I could rate this higher than 5 stars I definitely would! It is a fantastic place to stay.
Thank you so much Betsy! So happy you enjoyed staying at Capt Smith and delighted to hear you'll be back. We really try to make it feel like a "home from home" so that guests will keep returning and I really appreciate your very kind comments! Thank you! Looking forward to next time!

The Captain Smith apartment is ideal for one or two couples. You feel as if you are at your own home in Camden. This was our second stay at CS and it was just as good as the first trip in October of 2015. Very convenient to downtown Camden. Easy walk to shops and restaurants. Vehicle parking is great with easy access in and out of the apartment. Although we didn't use it much other than eating a lite breakfast, the kitchen has every thing you have at home.
Camden is the perfect mid-coast location for doing day trips north or south on the coast. We can highly recommend the Captain Smith apartment. Oh! the weather was ideal so we got to enjoy morning coffee and afternoon drinks on the porch.

Lovely property centrally located
Our ladies group used this apt as homebase for our daily excursions north and south coastally. The kitchen is large with a table in the middle where we visited each evening. Camden is the sweetest little town with manageable traffic. (You get your own parking lot at this property.) We hope to return. 🏘
We are located within a short walk to Camden Harbor. Many schooners available for day sailing trips, sunset cruises and overnight trips as well. Also kayak rental/tours available as well as wildlife sightseeing. Lots of wonderful restaurants and unique shops. Don't forget to check out our fantastic libraryl! Take a hike (or drive) up Mt. Battie...a view not to be missed!!! And for those needing even more of a workout, the local YMCA is only 1.3 miles away.
