We moved to Carmel in 1964 and never turned back. We love our home in this special place we call Paradise. We brought up our four daughters here and moved to the Highlands twenty-five years ago to enjoy the magnificent ocean views and serenity. My husband is a writer and I'm a Coach for families of children with special educational needs. We enjoy the arts and fine dining found within minutes of our home. We walk daily in our neighborhood and are always inspired by the natural surroundings of the beautiful Carmel Highlands. Our daughters and some of our grandchildren live nearby. They stayed in this small, quaint, artistic community to enjoy the friendly ambiance and the many outdoor activities the Central Coast offers. One of our daughters and her husband have a sailboat, where they enjoy day sailing and whale watching on the Monterey Bay. From every visitor's perspective, our little corner of the world beckons vacationers to return again and again.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1985
We fell in love with the Highlands and the exquisite ocean views and quiet solitude that surround us here.
Ocean views forever, quiet, private and peaceful, and close to everything: hiking, beautiful nature walks with views of the ocean and wildlife, Point Lobos, Monastery Beach, exquisite sunsets and wonderful neighbors who add to this special community. Also 6 minutes to shopping and dining in Carmel;15 minutes to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, 30 minutes to Big Sur. Easy access to everything you could want in a vacation getaway!
Our family of four (our kids are 7 and 9) stayed at Judys lovely little house for 5 days. It was one of our best vacations ever. The property is located just perfectly - close to everything but not in the middle of anything. The house was very clean, lovely and comfortable. The property is magical too - beautiful garden, patio overlooking the ocean. We also liked that the cottage had a character and felt like from the old world. Judy is wonderful - helpful, kind and caring. I am already recommending this place to all my friends. Thank you Judy!
I was a bit reluctant about this rental at first because Judy the owner lives on site. However, as it turns out Judy is wonderful- welcoming on arrival and grateful for your patronage on departure and leaves you alone in between. There are so many thoughtful touches- fresh flowers and a gift basket- she even gave my daughter chocolate eggs for our Easter departure. The cottage is as described- but what is not obvious is that it is in a lovely neighborhood and surrounded by gardens. The air is fragrant with lavender and rosemary and the salt air.
I've stayed in Carmel proper but found this far more relaxing and quiet. The location is great as it's easy to get to town, groceries, and Big Sur- with a car.
At the risk of repeating the superlatives of every other guest, let me tell you that this is such an exquisite gem. You will feel absolutely coddled and cared for by Judy's thoughtfulness, as she has thought of your every need in advance. I am writing this review in bed in the high ceilinged loft bedroom, and when I look out the windows opposite, which fill in the triangle of the wall, I see trees, the ocean, and I hear the waves through the open windows. The sun is shining through the windows behind me over the bed. I think I am in heaven. I could move to the sofa or chair, if I choose, or head downstairs to the lovely living room. I might fill my coffee cup and step out through the French doors onto the deck facing the ocean and listen to its music. This is a complete paradise.
Great bed and linens, towels and robes, all plentifully supplied, well stocked kitchen with lots of cookware, staples and spices. A lovely welcome basket. Everything has been thoughtfully arranged for your comfort. Judy provides a California State Park pass for entry to Point Lobos, a must!, as well as Monterey Acquarium passes. There's a hiking trails guidebook in the book stand. All you need to do is get here and start your holiday.
(Yes, it is true that the bathroom is on the first floor and the bedroom is on the second but There is a great light on the stairs so they are well illuminated on the way down for any nighttime trips and it is a short distance.)
My family enjoyed 3 nights here between Christmas & New Years, and had a wonderful time. The cottage is impeccably clean and very well provisioned with clean towels (about twice as many as we needed), sheets, blankets, robes, comfy pillows, etc. The kitchen is a fully equipped with cookware, dishes, staples, spices, etc. Judy is a fantastic host, and genuinely wants to ensure you have a great time here. She went through orienting us to everything on arrival (about lights, DirectTV, heat, hot water, etc.), and left us a really nice basket of goodies. She provided 2 complimentary guest passes to the aquarium, but given that there were 4 in our party she called a friend and ran out and got two more for us so we all had passes! Really nice, especially now that aquarium tickets have gone up to $40 per person!
This is a great location for running up to Pt. Lobos, Carmel, or down the coast into Big Sur. Gorgeous clear weather during our stay, and awesome views. Great for even short hikes around the stunning hillside community of Carmel Highlands. One thing to be aware of while staying here is about the traffic patterns – particularly in the afternoon “rush hour” between about 4 – 7pm. Going north on Hwy 1 into Carmel can get completely backed up for miles, so if planning to go into Carmel for dinner I would recommend avoiding that rush hour time. Evidently, the traffic situation on Hwy 1 has gotten worse during peak afternoon rush hour over the past couple of years.
Other than that, this is an excellent rental accommodation, and I would definitely stay again and recommend it to friends.
We LOVED staying at Point of View! My wife and I spent 5 nights there for our honeymoon and it could not have been more perfect. The house was even better than the pictures show. It sits back off Hwy 1 up a mountain and is nestled in a little neighborhood with lots of privacy. The grounds are nicely landscaped and the house is surrounded by gardens on 3 sides and woods on the other. The cottage itself looks the part with dark wood, white trim, window boxes, crank-out windows, and a deck on the back. We really enjoyed meeting Judy when we arrived, and she showed us around and provided lots of great local advice for exploring the area. She also provided passes for the aquarium and a state park parking pass - both VERY helpful! She also left a gift basket in the kitchen - another great touch! The kitchen was nicely appointed and had everything we needed for cooking. We ended up cooking most meals at the house because it was so nice to spend time in the kitchen with the french doors open, looking out at the ocean. The upstairs bedroom and seating area had a great peaked ceiling and tons of windows providing a beautiful view of the coast to the west and the mountain to the east. We loved watching the sunsets over the ocean from the couch or the bed. The bed was massive and very comfortable. We also really enjoyed having the porch and grill on the back of the house. Judy wasn't in town when we had to leave, but she gave us a phone call to say thanks and even sent us a recipe as a check-out gift! In summary, we couldn't have asked for a better host or place to stay. It was nearly impossible to tear ourselves away at the end of the week! It's the perfect place to wake up slow, enjoy breakfast with a view, then go out and explore the stunning Big Sur coastline before coming home for a sunset over the ocean and dinner in a cozy cottage. We will be making every effort to return!
My wife and I had a delightful week at Judy's house just south of Carmel. Judy, who lives next door, couldn't have been more helpful and provided everything we needed. We particularly appreciated the passes to the Monterey aquarium and the CA state parks. The house is very quiet down a long private road and has a great view of the ocean. You can park adjacent to the house. There is a Subzero fridge, a propane powered barbecue outside and a washer and dryer. Everything was very clean and tidy when we arrived.
I should mention one minor limitation. The bathroom is small and rather basic and located downstairs. Older guests need to be careful of the quite steep stairs in the middle of the night!
