Such a great place outside St. Louis! Relaxing, serene, quiet, but so much fun for the kids too! There was so much to do: canoeing, swimming in the lake, good fishing, hot tubbing, playing games, reading... Susie and Ernie have everything you could need for a wonderful getaway!
Beautiful & Peaceful Oasis
The Lodge at Pine Lake served beautifully as both a peaceful romantic getaway, and also as a fun place to gather with family and friends. Soaking in the hot tub with a view of the lake, paddling around, fishing, swimming off the floating dock, and relaxing in the screened in porch were daily treats. We slept very comfortably in both beds. The house was clean and it was easy to find all the things we needed. We invited family and friends for a barbecue and discovered everything we needed for a truly fun evening. We also appreciated things like two hairdryers, a wall-mounted makeup mirror, ironing board and iron which helped us get ready efficiently before our necessary excursions into St. Louis every day.The natural setting is gorgeous and private, which provided us a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city. We enjoyed viewing the rolling, green farm fields and woods around Milstadt on the drive back and forth to St. Louis. Susie and Ernie are warm and welcoming, available when needed, and equally unobtrusive. The sum total of our experience was excellent and we look forward to staying there again in the near future.
A little farther than we thought....
This rustic cabin was really perfect size for my family and was certainly comfortable enough. My boys enjoyed the lake and canoe. I was a little disappointed that the lake was more of a pond, and was pretty mossy and green. We did not swim in it. When I read I’m the caption that it was minutes away, I think that needs elaborated. It’s at least 30 minutes from St. Louis, 45 minutes on some days. We spent a lot of time in the city so that became a little inconvenient. Everything else was just- ok. I think the house needs an overhaul. It was very cluttered and I would love to see it updated. It’s a cute house but just outdated. Not a bad stay, as this is my 5th VRBO experience, but could have been a little better.
Just what we needed
The property was a perfect getaway for our family. We were able to do a day trip to St Louis as well as Cahokia while enjoying fishing and hanging out.
Thanks much Susie and Ernie!
My family and I love this place! I could sit by the lake forever. The cabin is quaint and comfortable. It's a wonderful place to connect with family and friends or to decompress and enjoy nature. Thank you Susie and Ernie for sharing your beautiful home. Looking forward to next time.
We are so glad you and your family enjoyed our place once again. Please come back and stay at the lodge again.

What a lovely, peaceful property! It was perfect for us. Everything we needed was on hand and the home was very comfortable. Susie and Ernie were most hospitable and their restaurant recommendation was spot on. We hope to return very soon.
Thank you for your wonderful comments. Ernie and I try our best to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Please come stay with us again.
