Old Farm Estate: Unusual historic estate setting in superb location. Delicious living right in the designated Downtown and Core Area Historic District, just a few minutes from the Plaza, but secluded and private from Santa Fe's summer traffic and crowds. Casa Del Rio is a very good value for an unforgettable Santa Fe vacation.
We designed and built every inch of this exotic little home with our own hands over the past 22 years, and it pleases us greatly when folks from all over the world fall in love with it and its rare and lovely riverside garden setting. We welcome you to come and see for yourselves!
My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at Albert and Connie's home on Upper Canyon Road. They designed and built it themselves and it is truly unique. And the gardens around the house are as interesting and beautiful as the house itself. The Santa Fe river runs below the house so you can hear the sounds of the river water in the background. Incredibly well stocked in all ways. Albert was available to help in any way we needed.
My wife and I visited in late March and early April with our dog. There is so much to like it is a bit hard to know where to start. First let me say that all my communications with the owner were superb. He was very responsive to emails and phone contacts. The home itself is very accurately presented in the photos. This is a superb home with more custom craftsmanship than any place we have ever stayed. Albert and Connie equipped the home with everything we needed and all was of high quality. The home was exceptionally clean and well maintained. When we had one small problem it was fixed immediately.
The home is right on the Santa Fe River and it was wonderful to listen to it as we went to sleep. There are mutiple places to hike right from the home. On several occassions we took a trail and walked right into the gallery district. Albert was very helpful in explaining how to get around town and how to access the many local sights. As a long time resident he was very familiar with not only Santa Fe, but also the many parks and national monuments to the North.
I would recommend this property without hesitation.
Let me start by saying how refreshing it was to work with Albert. He was accommodating, friendly, and went over a above to make our family stay a truly incredible experience. The home is so unique - there is so much love and attention to detail in the craftsmanship. It felt like my cozy home away from home...without the chaos or having to lift a finger! I particularly enjoyed listening to the creek behind the house as I went to sleep each night. My teenage girls enjoyed wandering around the creek and creekside, exploring the outdoors. If the weather had been warmer we would have spent most of our time on the balcony and enjoying the beauty of this location. We will come back to take advantage of that.
This house really is a work of art created by the owners and you get the feeling that you are a welcome guest and not just a renter. I enjoyed just walking around the house and the property noticing all the details and feeling happy for getting the chance to live in the house. I was even more fortunate to meet the owner who told me all about the construction and design that made the house a home.
Over the years I've visited Santa Fe many times, but because of this home I saw it in a whole new way this trip. I enjoyed running the trails in the open space and the public trail head is just up the road, less than a mile. Santa Fe has a lot to offer, but except for making sure I got to have breakfast at Tia Sofia's, I could go there again and be happy just to stay at the house and wander the property and trails around it without even going into town.
I've stayed at maybe half a dozen Homeaway properties, and none disappointed. Most got five stars, but now I feel like I need to award six stars because this has been the best of them all. Thank you Albert and Connie for creating such a wonderful home and for allowing my wife and I to share it. We really hope to return soon!
We had the pleasure of visiting Casa del Rio in mid-May of last year and before we were on the plane in Albuquerque for our return home we were talking about our next trip. That little gem of a cottage was home base and home away from home for my wife and me for an unforgettable visit to northern NM.
The comfort of Casa del Rio is second only to the charm, thoughtfulness and hospitality of Albert and Connie Durand, our host and hostess and new best friends. They have thought of everything to make this "pied-a’-terre" the perfect place to start a day in Santa Fe, and a place we looked forward to returning to at the end of each day. If there is a drawback to Casa Del Rio, it’s the temptation to "stay home" and enjoy the unbelievable craftsmanship and good taste that has gone into the construction and furnishings instead of touring NM. So we did both.
If you think the information and photos on the website are too good to be true, they aren’t. If anything, they don't do Casa del Rio justice. (That said, however, please don't make a reservation. It might make booking our next visit more difficult for us.)
Our stay at Casa del Rio started with perfect directions! An exchange of emails and we knew exactly where to go. When we arrived we were welcomed by Albert, who opened his home, shared all the unique features of the amazing property and then generously handed over his dear treasure to us... two total strangers! An amazing show of confidence. We immediately fell in love with this unbelievably lovely creation. We discovered something new every day, little details that the owners had lovingly created and built with their own hands.
The house is truly a piece of art. We felt honored to be trusted with the use of the house as our own during our stay. We agree wholeheartedly with all the previous reviews; it is hard to top what others have written about the experience of staying in Albert and Connie's unique house, filled with love and care, inside and out. It must be very rewarding to be Albert and Connie, to trust others and give completely and to be rewarded with good friends around the world. It has inspired us greatly and we would like to follow suit.
