Washington DC Townhome Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, sleeps 8+

Large spacious house for family and group gatherings. 5 minute walk to metro, restaurants, and pubs. The house is located on Cooper Circle in historic Ledroit Park. The National Mall, Capitol, Smithsonian Museums, and Chinatown are just 2 to 3 metro stops away. The White House is just 4 stops away.

This renovated rowhouse, originally built in the 1920's, has a large European professional kitchen open to the living room. Many historic details have been preserved like the original hardwood floors and ornate metal ceilings.

It's a walkable neighborhood with restaurants, a weekend farmers' market, organic dairy/market, and coffee shops. It's closer-in than Capitol Hill, but quieter than Dupont, Logan, or Georgetown.

*Offsite parking for 1 car. If you have more vehicles, I can get guest street parking passes for additional vehicles.

*High speed wireless internet.

*European professional kitchen with Sub-zero fridge, stone countertops, Miele dishwasher, professional range, waffle maker, and a lot more!

*Large private wooden deck.

*Dining room seating for 10.

*European style washer & dryer on second floor.

*HD Widescreen TV.

Ledroit Park is quiet, tree shaded enclave of Victorian mansions and stately town homes. It is designated historic district with wrote-iron lamp posts, brick sidewalks, granite curbs, and small manicured lawns.

About Austin

Former Army officer, attorney and owner of a European kitchen design studio.

Austin purchased this townhome in 2001

Why Austin chose Washington DC

The house is ideal for groups who want to be in a walkable neighborhood, close to metro, near museums, but need parking for one or more vehicles.

What makes this townhome unique

More parking available than most downtown locations. You can walk to some trendy spots: Big Bear Cafe, Bistro Bohem, Zenebech Injera, Shaw Tavern, Beau Thai, Right Proper Brewing Co., etc.

Well stocked, close to attractions, better than a hotel, but too noisy at night

  • 3 of 5

My family (2 adults and 4 young kids) stayed in this house on a vacation trip to Washington, D.C. One of the big draws for us was that it was a very convenient drive to the National Mall area. Even during "rush hour" times, that area was a short 15 minute drive away. Because we were planning on driving, we needed a house with a guaranteed parking spot. While the parking for this house was in the back through the alley, and it was a tight turn to get into it, the fact that we had it was pretty awesome.

One of the first things that you notice when you enter the house is how well-stocked it is. The kitchen had everything that my family needed for our stay and then some. Even extras like spices, maple syrup, ketchup, etc were there. The bathrooms had plenty of towels available and there was a stockpile of blankets in the closet in case it gets cold. No complaints there. The house is clearly well taken care of. They had a wifi network available for use which worked well for the most part, but I did have to reboot the router a few times while we were there when it wasn't working properly. As an added bonus, there was a computer in the living room for easy access to Internet searches for food, maps, etc. Speaking of food, we had trouble finding family food options within walking distance and either drove to places to eat or brought food in most nights.

Nights in the house were, unfortunately, problematic. When you see the picture of the house, you can probably assume that there are neighbors on both sides of the house and that you need to be reasonably quiet. What you do not realize is that there are also neighbors underneath it. We had to remind the kids over and over again not to make a lot of noise out of respect for those people. Unfortunately, many of the neighbors didn't have that same level of respect. Loud talking or yelling and excessive traffic noise was a nightly occurrence. It was even worse on the weekend lasting well past 2 AM. The back bedrooms listened to a dog barking all night long on most nights. As if the noise weren't enough, the mattress in the front bedroom was firm and uncomfortable. It all made for very poor nights of sleep while we were there.

The last thing worth mentioning is security. Given the neighborhood, when I found that there was no deadbolt on the back door, I was concerned. We even had a strange person knock on the door late one night.

Our stay was better than a hotel, but nothing special.

Girls Weekend

  • 5 of 5

This home was #1 on our list when searching for a place to stay for a long weekend. It did not disappoint! It was clean and was just enough space for all 8 of us. Everything and every place we needed to go was within a two-mile radius. (We took Ubers everywhere - no issues there either.) Great memories were made in this place! Thanks Austin for your promptness when responding to questions and any needs. GREAT PLACE TO STAY!!!

Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

Great location, accommodations, price and atmosphere. Family gathered from across the country for 3 nights. All adult seasoned travelers who have seen lots. A market one block away with great service, selection and friendly staff. The food and conversation with Jasmine and people watching at the cafe and bistro 4 blocks away. Metro six blocks away surrounded with restaurants and bars. Meeting friendly people along the way walking through Victorian neighborhood. House was exactly as described. Good beds, baths, dining, living rooms. Quiet. Slept like babies. Highly recommend this house.

Great location...but....

  • 3 of 5

The house itself was definitely in a great location. But while we were there, the house had issues with the ceiling in the kitchen leaking. The whole time we were there (5days), we had trouble cooking/working around the kitchen. Although in fairness to the owner Austin, he was aware of the situation and tried to address it but it was beyond his control. Also, one of the air mattress had a hole in it. Other than that, our group had a fun time in DC.

Great house for a group - central location

  • 5 of 5

Nine of us - 2 sets of grandparents, 1 set of parents, and 3 school-aged kids - spent one week in this well equipped historic home. We enjoyed every minute of our visit, to include this house and surrounding historic neighborhood.

Large living, dining, and kitchen downstairs meant we could all enjoy gathering around the table or in the living room together. Kitchen is very nice and well equipped with more than the essentials! (Except we couldn't locate a large pasta-cooking pot.) We loved the front and back porches for morning coffee. Half bath on the main level is small but very convenient.

3 bedrooms - all upstairs with two very nice full bathrooms. Extra air mattress with electric pump came in handy for the kids!

Stairs are a bit steep; could be challenging for the very young or old or handicapped.

The home is near a hospital so sirens were a common sound.

The walk to the Shaw metro was about 6 or seven blocks- completely delightful in the amazing Fall weather we had during our October visit. We did not have - or need - a car at all. We purchased 7-day short pass metro Smartrip cards and those were perfect for everywhere we wanted to go. Typically we got to the metro every morning at the 0930 start of off-peak fares. We usually came home during the peak fare 3-7pm window but this property is so centrally located that the $3.50 max fare constraint was not an issue.

We ate at two great neighborhood establishments: Old Engine 12 and Pizzarro. Both food and service were great. The neighborhood corner grocery store (Ledroit Park market, I think) was perfect for small grocery essentials. Once during the week, we got off at Mt Vernon (one stop prior) and walked to the Giant grocery for more substantial shopping. A bit of a walk back to the house...but we had 18 hands for grocery bags so it worked for us ;)

House was ready for us when we arrived and we lacked nothing important. It was a great experience; I have nothing but trivial complaints. (E.g. There was no gas in the gas grill...too inconvenient for travelers with no car to refill. Front bedroom gets lots of nighttime light from street lights.). Highly recommend this home!

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure having Cherie's family. For future guests, just let me know if anything needs replenishing, I am happy to help! For clarification, the metro station is on 7th St. and house is on 3rd St. It's a 5 to 10 minute walk, depending on if you are in a hurry or taking your time.
