Beautiful mountain home on a secluded wooded lot. Excellent location for many activities. Screened in porch, stone fireplaces, newly remodeled and fully furnished. One mile from Appalachian Trail, Caledonia golf course and Totem Pole Playhouse. Ten min. from Chambersburg, Pa, 20 min from Gettysburg, 12 miles from Liberty Ski and Golf Resort. 10 miles to Penn National Golf Course, 90 min from Washington DC and Baltimore. Four hours from New York City.
Nice Location: We are located in a secluded mountain setting. It is very peaceful and you will enjoy spending time in the rocking chairs on the screened-in front porch. We are also one mile from the Appalachian Trail, the Totem Pole Playhouse(excellent theatre during the summer months) , Caledonia State park, a public swimming pool and The Caledonia Golf Club. A little farther afield, we have Gettysburg (15 mi), Penn National golf course (10 mi), Liberty Mountain Ski and Golf Resort, (12 mi) and Washington DC (90 mi).
Well Equipped: The house has everything you need, right down to the towels, bedding microwave and silverware. We're on 1.5 acres of land. There is plenty of room for the kids to run. Many Frisbee competitions have been played on our lawn.
We have a decent DVD collection. We have started to collect Film Movement independent movies that some of you should find interesting.
We fell in love with this house when we first saw it but it was in disrepair. We spent the next five years remodeling and rebuilding it. We really like the peaceful feeling we get in the evening on the screened in porch or in front of the fireplace when it's cold out. Janet is a nurse practitioner and I am management consultant. We both work long hours and spend time volunteering at our church and we wish we had more time to spend at our Caledonia House but we have really enjoyed sharing it with others. The people who have come to our home through Homeaway have been excellent.
Owner purchased this house in 2005
The property was just as described and was clean and well-maintained. Our family - 5 adults, a baby, and a border collie - really enjoyed this attractive house tucked behind several other properties along a wooded lane. The house was comfortably and attractively appointed, and we managed well with what was in the kitchen for cooking our meals. Steve answered my several inquiries promptly and graciously. We would recommend this property to others who might have reason to stay in the Chambersburg / Gettysburg area. We especially enjoyed spending time at Calendonia State Park - both baby and dog loved being in the creek that runs through the Park - and we were glad to enjoy some of the last days of the public pool being open there, as well.
This home was very relaxing just as the pictures. Overall we didn't want to leave. We were only there for a weekend stay but will definitely be back. The home is close to a lot of different things link Gettysburg, and parks and trails. We really enjoyed our selfsame. And steven the host was very nice and a pleasure to dealwith.
We rented this home because my daughter was getting married in nearby Chambersburg and though a little farther away from town, it gave the 6 of us a little more room to stretch out rather than renting 3 hotel rooms. The cabin had a well stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, and a nice living area and front porch. Fun to walk up the hills around the neighborhood. The fireflies at night were amazing. Great stay for visiting Gettysburg as well. Half our group made the trek there on Saturday. The owner was responsive to the questions we had via the Home Away app. Try to get there before dark, because the house is a little hard to find off the highway and you have to drive up a steep hill to get there. Would definitely rent again.
Steve was great about letting us in early to leave our crated pet. I don't know if this is the reason, but when we came back, the top floor was clean but the main floor just wasn't. Stubble in the bathroom sink. Floors didn't look swept. Dishes left out to dry. Same towel hanging in the bathroom from when we were in at noon. The cupboards needed a good wipe down. That said, the place was charming and the beds comfy. Great spot for relaxing.
We were a couple of friends who needed a comfortable place to gather, relax, & enjoy each other's company for a few days. We picked this location because it was close proximity to Shabath Mineral Wellness in Chambersburg where we wanted to enjoy a relaxing, therapeutic spa session in the salt cave. We found relaxing at the house to be quite comfortable & the visit to the salt cave is definitely something we would enjoy repeating & highly recommend other guests to check it out! We loved the character of the home! One morning we got to see 7 deer meandering past the house in the woods. The kitchen worked great for cooking all of our meals, but we can also highly recommend the Big Oak Cafe in Chambersburg. Great food & lovely cafe atmosphere. Overall, we found the house & location to be very accommodating! Thank you for opening your home to us!!
