The ‘Opera House Carmen’ is close to the Central Opera Theatre, between via Veneto, Trevi Fountain and the President's Palace Quirinale, Central Station and Spanish Steps, in a noble, historical building. Best to explore Rome, walking. Refurbished in 2010 by a famous Italian architect. The apartment is a good base to explore Rome - within walking distance. There are also busstops and a taxistand nearby. We appreciated very much quiet nights - sleeping rooms are facing a small courtyard. At the entrance is a concierge under the week.
Shops and restaurants are nearby and historic sites, too.
Very good contact to the owner, he helps as much as possible. We also booked the transfer from/to airport - absolutely recommendable - very reliable, coming on the dot, fast pickup, fast transfer, escort into the apartment - holidays start at the airport.
Recommendable places very nearby: Santa Maria della Vittoria/Moses Fountain, Santa Maria degli Angeli, Santa Maria Maggiore.
Grocery around the block at Via Vittorio Emanuele Orlando/Piazza San Bernardo
We stayed at the Carmen three years ago with our two sons and loved the place so much that we came back this year - this time with another couple! Similar to last time, we were picked up at the airport by Riccardo (Paolo's associate) for 50 euros - this was very convenient for us. The apartment was very clean (like the last time we stayed) and in a great location as it's walking distance to the Trevi Fountain, Ancient Rome, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and the train station. Great shopping is also very close by - especially on Via Nazionale as well as the small streets on the way to the Pantheon. There are also fantastic restaurants nearby - especially Esti Esti - which Paolo had suggested for great pizza. I would recommend this apartment to all. Our friends were surprised how well priced this apartment was given it's size and location.
Great apartment- in the centre of Rome, within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain and Roman Fort. Very close to the Republica metro station. Great restaurants nearby including the Feel Good. We were collected at the airport late in the evening by Paolo's colleague Riccardo, who even bought us breakfast for the following morning! The size of the apartment and the quality is as good as the photos, and the ceilings are high. The apartment is also well equipped with all the small items like dishwasher tablets, cleaning sponges etc.
Our stay in Rome was wonderful. The flat we rented for the week was central to all our outings and easily accessable to both the bus and Metro train. The living space and bedrooms were spacious and the beds were better then home! Completly furnished with washer/dryer and complete kitchen. The elevator was very handy as we were on the third floor. Easy access anytime day or night. We felt safe and secure in this flat the entire week. Paolo and Masha were kind enough to rent to us at the last minute, as we made reservations by phone from within Italy. We would recommend this flat to anyone wanting to Stay in Rome. We would definanlty stay here again.
Having not been to Rome in 35 years, I was unsure of what to expect being near Via Nazionale. The apartment was a great size ad two bathrooms made it work fine for three adults. The living area had one comfortable couch and a dining table. Could have used just one more comfortable couch to really spread out. Unsure if there is/was sky TV as there were 150+ stations 2 in English. The wifi was great...only accessible in living room.
Would have liked additional towels per person as I had my moments with the washer. Cleanliness was fine...floors and bathrooms could have used another wipe down. Very quiet at night and slept great. Location was walkable to most attractions and center...but not so close that you would have to be in a less modern building.
We were really looking forward to ending or holiday in Rome in this apartment.
Unfortunately this did not live up to our expectations. Firstly when we arrived we found there to be a heap of towels in the washing machine/dryer. When we checked the dryer we found there to be soap in the compartment and the towels were stuck on a drying cycle. We believe the towels had not been washed. Secondly we noticed the floors were left dirty and my wife ran a baby wipe on the floor and commented how disgusting it was. It appeared to us that no cleaner had been in the apartment from the previous guests to clean. This is one of the most important things for us when traveling with a young child. We spent our first day in Rome cleaning, washing and tidying the apartment. We also found one of the beds to have no sheets just a mattress and dooner and alot of the lights in the apartment did not work and the electricity safety switch would trip regularly and had to be reset. We contacted the caretaker who was only staying next door as we had issues with hot water service and we're advised we had to turn the heater on when we wanted hot water. Apparently the hot water service needs to be changed. We chose this apartment based on other reviews and perhaps our experience was a one off occurrence. However this was the worst condition of all the apartments we stayed in during our three week holiday which is disappointing as the location and facilities in the apartment are great. Nice local coffee shops nearby and close to Trevi fountain and Spanish steps.
The apartment ‘Opera House Carmen’ is located in the very heart of Rome, just aside of the Central Opera Theatre, between via Veneto, Barberini Square, Trevi Fountain and the President's Palace Quirinale, 8 minutes walk to Central Station Termini and Spanish Steps, in a noble, historical building. It is the perfect location for those wishing to explore the ancient Rome, walking.
