Our beautiful golf/vacation villa is located in the prestigious Barefoot Resort that was named the North America Golf Resort of the Year at the 2017 IAGTO Awards is located in North Myrtle Beach, SC. Our villa was the last Ironwood building built in 2005. We are located in a very quiet private setting in a cul-de-sac. Our second floor location offers a splendid view. From the master bedroom and the back deck are views of the #14 hole of the Greg Norman Golf Course, and a view of the Inter-coastal Waterway.

The Master bedroom has a king size bed (which may be split into 2 single beds). There is a large dresser with 7 drawers, a large television with Blue-ray player, bed side table with lamp, clock radio, phone, and a large walk-in closet. A spacious full bathroom with a tub/shower (Hotel Spa shower head) is attached to the Master bedroom. A large 5 blade ceiling fan provides a cooling breeze in the hot summer months. Did we mention the views of the Norman Golf Course and the Inter -coastal Waterway from the large bedroom windows?

The second bedroom has 2 twin beds. A 3 drawer dresser, TV, phone, clock radio, bedside table with a lamp, a large 4 blade ceiling fan, and a closet with full length sliding-mirrored doors adds to your comfort in this bedroom. The private bathroom for this bedroom is a few short steps down a short hallway. This is a full size bathroom with a tub/shower (Hotel Spa shower head).

The living room has a queen size couch which converts to a sofa sleeper. The living room has a large entertainment center for the large screen HDTV and a DVD player. The HDTV has over 50 commercial-free music channels. Also included are 2 large stuffed chairs for relaxing or TV viewing. A large 5 blade ceiling fan adds to your comfort.

Adjacent to the living room is the dinning area. A large wooden dining table with 6 chairs provides a perfect location for an enjoyable meal. There is a pass-thru from the kitchen into the dinning area.

The kitchen is fully stocked with high quality cookware, dishes, glasses, utensils, etc. Also included are a blender, toaster, mixer, coffee maker, microwave, water kettle for hot tea, etc. There is a full size electric range and a full size refrigerator with an ice-maker.

The laundry room has a stackable washer/dryer unit. It is conveniently located in the hallway by the second bathroom. An iron and an ironing board are also included.

The entrance to the private deck is from the living room. The deck has patio furniture which includes chairs and a small table. Did we mention the views of Norman’s Golf Course and the Inter-coastal Waterway from the deck?

We have private Internet WI-Fi in our villa and also free nation-wide phone calls including Canada. We plan on using our villa as our future retirement home. We are fortunate to have some very capable home decorators in our family. The wall paintings and the home furnishings have been selected to reflect the traditional southern home décor. The villa is stocked with 5 star hotel quality linens. Our villa was freshly painted last fall.

Property is equipped with high quality air filters to aid people with allergies. Filters are inspected regularly by property management and replaced as needed. The facility is non-smoking and no pets are allowed.

Right next door to our building is the only picnic and barbecue grill area in the Ironwood neighborhood. This makes it very convenient for the chefs in your family. A welcome package will greet you on your arrival with coupons and information for local attractions. A private outdoor pool is located a short walk from our villa. Included with a rental of our villa are pool tags to use this pool (like property owners may do). The pool tags are distributed by the Ironwood HOA to all dues paying property owners. The pool tags are considered to be very valuable property, so if a pool tag is lost a $50 charge is assessed against your security deposit.

The ocean beach is a few blocks away and public parking and public access is available. A free beach shuttle for all residents and guests runs on a regular schedule from the Ironwood pool to the ocean and back.

The recently opened Bi-Lo Shopping center is conveniently located for all Barefoot residents and guests. You can access the center on a short by-pass road without going out on the very busy Hwy 17. The center contains a grocery store, restaurants, drug store, etc. Bi-Lo and Walgreens have $1 DVD rental machines.

What else can be said about the Barefoot Resort area? We have been vacationing in North Myrtle Beach since the mid-1970s. We always preferred this area because of its family type atmosphere. The downtown Myrtle Beach area is very crowded with constant traffic.

The Grand Strand has over 60 miles of sparkling warm waters and pristine sandy beaches. National Geographic Magazine rates this area as one of the finest beach areas in the US. The Weather Channel rates the area as a top 10 family friendly destination. Southern Living describes the area – Favorite Beach, Favorite getaway destination, and Favorite family destination.

In the Grand Strand area there are eight live entertainment theaters with nearly 11,400 seats. The list includes the Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede Dinner & Show, the Alabama Theatre, the Carolina Opry Show, Medieval Times, and the Palace Theatre, etc.

At the entrance to the Barefoot Resort is the Alligator Adventure which is one of the largest exotic reptile parks in the world. Adjacent to the Alligator Adventure is the Barefoot Landing. This outdoor themed shopping area contains over 100 shops and restaurants. Once again, no need to use the HWY 17 to enter Barefoot Landing.

So, whatever your vacation plans will include, the Grand Strand area has something for every one to enjoy. Adding to your vacation pleasure would be a stay at our villa. This is always a better alternative to staying in a motel/hotel room.

Last year was only our second year listing our villa on VRBO. The natural beauty of the area and the ever-increasing attractions make the Grand Strand a very popular vacation destination. We received numerous positive comments from guests in our 2013 guest book. With positive referrals from guests our villa's availability was filled quickly. Our villa is unique in that it is one of a few villas in Ironwood with a view both of a golf course and the inter-coastal waterway. In 2013, with the exception of a few weeks, Feb, March, April, and May already booked.

Many of the Barefoot VRBO listings are being managed by rental management companies, which are not located at Barefoot. In fact, some of them are at least a 30 minute drive from Barefoot. They operate during regular business hours. If a guest has a problem after the business closes, they need to leave a recorded message, waiting for a call back.

We are very fortunate to have Terri and Steve DeFranco manage our villa. Since they are full-time residents of Barefoot and their home is only a few minutes from our villa, they are available 24/7 to assist our guests. Terri and Steve are like family to us.

Even on vacation, guests need assistance for various situations- medical problems, traffic accident in-route to NMB, dental emergencies, etc. It is comforting to have a local resident available to call on. The DeFranco's will be like family to you.

During 2012, we often had several requests for the same time period. As a result, our availability calendar filled quickly. To avoid disappointment, as soon as your vacation plans are finalized, we would recommend that you secure your time period. In our hectic and stressful every-day lives, vacations are needed to enjoy life and create life-long memories.

Why Ron, Carol, or Steve Pode chose Grand Strand - Myrtle Beach Area

Several months prior to construction, we were able to select the location of our Ironwood villa. We were aware this would be the last building to be constructed and it had the added premium of being located on a cul-de-sac. Also, only a few select villas would have a golf course and an inter-coastal waterway view.

We had a choice of any villa on any floor to make a deposit on. We immediately eliminated a first floor location. The villa floor would be on a cement base.

During the cold months, the unit would be cold and damp. During the warmer months, the unit would be humid with bugs and other insects causing a problem.

A first floor location would also elimate our premium golf course and waterway view. There would be a lack of privacy on our rear deck. We questioned the security aspect of leaving personal property on a first floor rear deck. Headlights from cars in the parking lot would also affect those in the second bedroom.

We how had a choice of any villa on either the 2nd or 3rd floor. The 2nd floor was an ideal location to have our premium view, and also one less flight of steps to reach our villa.

Since we were selecting our future retirement home, we knew how important and permanent our decisions would be.

What makes this villa unique

For the golfer, there are over 100 golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area. Right on the Barefoot Resort are the 4 famous courses designed by Greg Norman, Tom Fazio, Davis Love III, and Pete Dye. Starting in 2011, a golf academy will open at Barefoot. Golf Digest rates the area as “America’s top 100 great public courses.”

Along Hwy 17 is the area known as Restaurant Row. The Grand Strand area has thousands of restaurants that feature a wide variety of culinary delights. Numerous fresh seafood restaurants that specialize in Calabash style cooking. Beside the fresh seafood other dining options include everything to a burger to an upscale steakhouse. The international flair ranges from Italian, German, Thai, and Caribbean. Something for every taste bud and budget.

Near the entrance of the Barefoot Resort are the Barefoot Towers. This area contains a large marina on the Inter-coastal Waterway. At this location is the largest outdoor swimming pool in SC. It has a unique structure which adds to the enjoyment of all.

Delightful

My wife and I rented Ironwood 1923 Feb. 1 to April 30. It was a nice bright condo, lots of sun and very comfortable. This was our 17th trip in a row to Myrtle Beach from Canada. Owners are hands on, great to deal with. About half of our stays have been in Barefoot Resort......we enjoyed it so much, we will be back next year again!

Owner's Response: Always great to hear from guests that they are planning to return to Ironwood 1923. Every year we have more guests decide to return for their next trip to the Grand Strand. For 2018 we already have 6 months of guests who return every year. Barefoot Resort and Golf, Ironwood 1923: property is not well maintained or clean.

Property is poorly maintained.

LOCK BOX: I was unable to replace the cover on the lock box. I got it open with the code, but could not get it to fit back on to the box mounted to the wall. I tried depressing the top switch as far as I could, but still was not able to fit the cover on to the box. Needed advice on how to proceed. I called the owner and he referred me to a man named Mike who runs the cleaning service. Mike said that he would have someone out to the condo the next day. No one showed up all week. A few days later, the exterminators showed up to spray the condo and mentioned that I could get the lock box cover back on if I re-entered to code. I did so, and then sent a email to the owner stating that this information would have been helpful if it had been provided in the documentation that was sent to us.

CARPET STAINS: There were a number of dark stains (possibly mud) on the light carpet leading from the start of the carpeting in the dining room through the living room and continuing into the master bedroom. I called the owner and he said that because the condo is almost continually occupied, that the cleaning service did not have the time to clean the carpet. My wife got some spray carpet cleaner and was able to remove about 60% of the stains in about 5 minutes. Given the fact that we found layers of dust on a number of horizontal services in what is essentially a closed, air-conditioned environment, my opinion is that the cleaning service is either incompetent, badly managed, or a combination of both.

CLOTHING IN THE DRYER: Judy found 2 t-shirts, women's underwear, and socks in the dryer along with a load of towels in the dryer. The clothing is now on the bottom shelf of the linen closet and my wife has folded the towels and placed them in the linen closet.

FOOD CRUMBS ON THROW RUGS: Both throw rugs in the kitchen had a number of food crumbs on them. They had not been shaken out. Once again: Incompetent cleaning service.

MASTER BATHROOM SINK STOPPER: The master bathroom sink stopper cannot be raised or lowered by the rod behind the faucet. The only way to raise it is to pry it up out of the drain with your fingernails. It appears that this is not the original drain stopper that belonugs to the sink. My wife is afraid that she might lose some jewelry down this drain.

This was our first trip to This VRBO and it will definitely be our last.

Owner's Response: It is truly unfortunate that this was a disgruntled guest. Guests who stayed prior to this guest and those who stayed after, all had a very positive (5 Star) experience. We spoke with this guest after their arrival. In terms of the key lock box, we notified the cleaning company. Since the box would not be used again for one week (after guest departure) a supervisor would attend to it in a few days. The clothes in the dryer were forgotten by the previous guest. No big problem. In regards to the cleaning of the unit we notified the cleaning company of the guests' concerns. We have a plumbing, electrical, and HVAC service contract. We notified them of the sink stopper issue. They informed us that it had been repaired on their next inspection visit. The cleaning staff are human beings. If they miss something in their cleaning schedule, it is a mistake on their part. They do not deliberately set out to do less then a perfect job. With 11 1/2 months of rentals in 2016 and 5 months of deposits for 2018, the cleaning company must be doing a pretty good job.

Clean,Relaxing and Safe

We wanted a clean safe place to relax and enjoy our vacation. This was our first time staying in a condo at Barefoot Resort and we totally enjoyed the condo and the convenience of all the restaurants and shopping nearby. The pool was just a short distance from the condo and it was clean and never crowded. Steve and Ron were easy to work with when booking the condo and responded quickly to any questions we had. We would recommend Ironwood #1923.

Owner's Response: Our Ironwood neighborhood in the Barefoot Resort is ideal for couples and families to enjoy a vacation. Our guests are very important to us. Many return every year and with "word of mouth" to other family members and friends, our guest list keeps on growing every year. Our guests are treated like family members. We have heard numerous horror stories from our guests on places they stayed at and left early, because of the conditions they found on arrival. Since our family vacations at our villa we want every thing to be perfect on our arrival.

Owner's Response: We are in a residential neighborhood. We are very popular with families. We purchased this villa for our family to use. A nice feature is that our guests can enjoy the same amenities as the property owners do. We leave the various codes and passes for our guests to use during their stay. That being said, we are close enough to the popular attractions that the Grand Strand is famous for. We are very close to the Barefoot Landing which has numerous restaurants, stores, entertainment venues (Like Alabama Theater and The House of Blues), etc. Perfect place to relax or to do the local attractions.

Owner's Response: We use a very highly regarded cleaning and maintenance company to prepare our villa for our guests, and also for our family when we vacation there. We, also have service contracts which provide for routine inspection of all electrical, plumbing and HVAC units in our villa. We believe preventive maintenance is a far superior option to waiting for a problem to occur. Our guests and our family arrive at our villa to have a relaxing stay, and not to be bothered with maintenance issues.

Free-falling from a 60-foot tower, slipping down an oceanfront zip line, or fighting through a curve in a car once driven by a NASCAR great are among the new attractions that will greet our guests during their stay at our Grand Strand villa. The ocean-front boardwalk has also been extended. Along with the 102 regular golf courses, there are about 30 miniature golf courses. The NASCAR Racing Experience will allow drivers to get behind the wheel of a car that was once driven by NASCAR drivers such as Jimmie Johnson or Jeff Gordon. The Springmaid Pier at more then 1,000 feet offers sweeping views of the oceanfront. Tanger Outlets has 2 locations (one a short distance from our villa) with nearly 100 stores for the shoppers in your family.
