Enjoy Downeast Maine at our fully furnished and heated 3 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath cottage. Fronted on Eastern Bay off Frenchman Bay and close to Acadia National Park, the cottage is located halfway between Lamoine State Park and Lamoine Beach. There are excellent views of Mt. Desert Island, and seals, loons and other seabirds resting on Googins Ledge from our large deck.
While many people choose to spend their vacation entirely at the cottage it is only 22 miles by car to Bar Harbor, or six miles by boat/kayak to the Bar Harbor town pier. Picturesque Bar Harbor is full of shops, galleries, restaurants and museums, and is a popular stop for cruise ships. There are also many activities to take advantage of in Acadia National Park. The park entrance and visitor center are about 16 miles from the cottage. You can be as active or passive as you choose. If hiking and biking are not your passion, the Park Loop road will take you around much of the national park. The auto road which goes to the top of Cadillac mountain is a must do. At 1532 feet, it is the highest point on the eastern seaboard. From there you can view the first sunrise and sunset daily in the United States. Inside the park are a series of carriage roads created so that the millionaire summer people, as they were known, could traverse between their mansions. Though most of these summer homes are gone, the roads remain and are perfect for biking or hiking. There are carriage tours that you can pick up at the famous Jordan Pond House, where you can also enjoy tea and pop-overs. LL Bean sponsors the Island Explorer bus system, which lets you travel free around much of Mount Desert Island in their eco-friendly, propane powered buses.
Since this is Maine, the shore in front of the cottage is a combination of rock, sand, shells, and seaweed. The tide rises approximately 11 feet and it is about 1 1/4 miles across to the island shore. The water is deep enough that the site of Lamoine State Park was at one time used to refuel US Navy vessels with coal. Today the bay is populated with lobster boats, sailboats, and kayaks. The ocean water is brisk and refreshing, and in town there is a freshwater pond that has great swimming.
As we look right over to Cadillac Mountain it's an easy place to fall in love with. Find it at Latitude 44.45092, Longitude -68.292905. Check location on Google Maps - 8 Sanddollar Alley, Lamoine, Maine 04605

This property has been in my family for more than 40 years. Our family occupies the cottage next door. Having relatives in this area and the cottage being near enough to Boston to travel for a weekend stay made it perfect for my family.
Cannot say enough about the wonderful time we had in Maine. Before our arrival, Bob answered all of our questions about the area and gave us lots of ideas of things to do. We highly recommend Blunt's pond (just a couple of miles from the cottage) for swimming since the water in front of the house was too cold to enjoy. We arrived to fresh blueberry scones and a gorgeous view. We rented a canoe for our family of 6 because the kayak rental prices were a bit steep. Bob gave us excellent advice on when to enjoy the canoe the most, mornings and evenings. We spent so much time exploring the ever-changing beach in front of the cottage finding snails, fish, crabs, mussels, and a sea star. We were even lucky enough to see a seal up close two evenings when we canoed out to Googin's ledge. We spent most of our daytime hiking in Acadia with our 4 children varying in ages from 1 to 13. The Ocean Path was perfect for our family because we could push the baby stroller up on the path while the older children climbed on the rocks down below. The path around Jordan's Pond was another of our favorites. You can enjoy an easy 3 mile path or choose to hike up to Bubble Rock half way around. Another highlight of our stay was enjoying a LuLu Lobster tour at low tide. We saw lots of seals and Captain John did an excellent job of sharing his knowledge of lobstering.
We enjoyed dinner on the deck most evenings and our last evening Barb brought us a cup of fresh picked blueberries from their back yard. Delicious!
The days were warm and the evenings cool. We slept with the windows open and awoke to the sight of lobster boats heading out to check their traps in the morning. Truly an unforgettable experience!
A charming ocean-front cottage with spacious common areas, a fantastic view from a lovely deck, welcoming hosts, and a well-appointed kitchen. There are three bedrooms: two with a double bed and one with twin beds. Our young family of four spent most days exploring Acadia National Park. We did rent kayaks locally which were delivered to a nearby beach. We cooked most of our meals at the cottage. We had a wonderful vacation and look forward to returning.
Ever changing views from the large deck on this well appointed cottage on the water! Enjoy your morning coffee as you watch the lobster boats leave to check their traps. Sailboats going by in the afternoon is a pleasant site. The Moon's silver reflection over the water at night is a stunning view and lights up the deck! Lamoine is the quiet side overlooking Acadia which is a completely different experience. We even dug huge clams in front of the cottage which were delicious! Lamoine State Park and Lamoine Beach are both less than 5 min from the cottage. WiFi always worked and kitchen had everything you needed if you like to cook! Owners were very welcoming, friendly and looking to please if you needed anything. Homemade "Cereal Muffins" greeted us upon arrival!!!! Highly recommend!!!!!!
We spent an excellent week here in August. The cottage has everything you could possibly need and feels like home. It's quiet location is perfect for visiting the Acadia area and has some incredible views at any time of day. Bob and Dottie were incredibly welcoming and helpful with suggestions for places to visit during the stay.
We spent a week here in early September. Beginning with the warm welcome , everything was perfect. the view from the deck changes all day long with the tides, gulls and loons serenaded our stay. the cottage is cozy and comfortable and just a short (20minute0 drive to Acadia national park and another ten minutes to Bar Harbor. the hosts are charming and discrete and made sure the wifi worked well as that was important for us. Lamoine is a quaint, quiet little town with a beautiful, wild stony beach and a goat farm that sells fresh cheese. The cottage is off the main road and quiet. all you hear are the waves. the kitchen is well appointed for those, like us, who like to do their own cooking and there is plenty of info for those who want to go out to eat. Having vacationed many times in Down East and Acadia, this was the best rental yet. We didn't get around to kayaking, but for those who like that, this is the perfect venue with easy access to the water.
My husband and I had a great time during our week stay at the terrific cottage with the million dollar view of Mount Desert Island. Dottie and Bob were so welcoming and helpful and the cottage had everything we needed and more. We were also able to launch our kayaks right from the property and paddle over to see "The Ovens" on Mount Desert Island.
Our week went by so fast and we were so busy with all the things to see and do that we never had a chance to relax on the wonderful deck! We highly recommend this comfortable homey cottage. Sue & Mike
