Since Hurricane Katrina I am a Disaster Assistance Employee deployed in the aftermath of disasters. Formerly I was a counselor in private practice, consultant & trainer and continue to own and manage the first B&B in Ocean Springs, MS, Oak Shade Bed & Breakfast.
My four adult children are responsible, self-supporting, environmentally conscious professionals with exceptional credit scores. I am understandably proud of them!
I am a high energy, physically active beyond mid-life woman who loves to read, write & travel. Last year I visited the Turkish cities of Istanbul, Ephesus and Kusdasi. As a young woman I worked as a tour guide in Turkey and my first child was born in Ankara.
With the single exception of North Dakota, I have visited all 50 states, traveled in more than two dozen countries and lived in four.
Originally from Asheville, the Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains draw me in, hold me in their embrace and always, I consider the NC mountains my spiritual home.

Eventually I may move from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to live closer to my daughter, her partner & my grandchildren. Until then I wanted to have a rental and mountain get-away for myself where I may putter, enjoy time alone and do some creative writing.
The outdoor options for sport and recreation are fantastic, and there are fascinating cultural, natural and human-made sites to visit.
A walking tour of the 15 murals in West Jefferson done by local artists is a 'must-do.' Nearby you may want to enjoy The Church of the Frescoes OR impressive performances sponsored by the Arts Council OR monthly outdoor music events at the community park below the library as well as public tennis courts, a covered picnic area and a children's playground with a creek running through it.
There are also annual events that draw thousands of visitors to West Jefferson area beginning with Merlefest (last weekend in April) followed by Christmas in July (first weekend), the August Fiddlers Convention and others.

We were looking for a place to stay for in Jefferson on Thanksgiving and were very fortunate to find Marian Manor. The residence is clean, quiet, comfortable, and very reasonably priced. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy time with the family after a hearty Thanksgiving meal. It's within walking distance from "downtown" West Jefferson, which includes shopping and dining. It's also well within range of various mountain activities such as canoe trips or hiking. I highly recommend anyone who is planning a visit to the Jefferson area consider staying at Marian Manor.
We were so blessed to have a brief stay in such a relaxing setting. We needed a location convenient to downtown West Jefferson that could accommodate our small family. We really appreciated the ability to stay but one night. Thanks for being able to help us with our last minute plans!
Whoever said, "There's no place like home" has never stayed at Marion Manor! From the moment you walk in you know there is something very special about this home. You automatically "unwind" and settle in easily and quickly because Marion has thought of it all. We also enjoyed the close vicinity to town and the WJ Park (walking path). The shops in town are FUN, FUN, FUN and the Farmers' Market on Saturday morning is unique. The cool temperatures were wonderful- had to put on a sweater in the mornings because we slept with the windows up the entire stay. That beats 100 degrees and smothering humidity any day of the week. We will be back!!
Northwestern North Carolina is a gorgeous part of the state (and country!) and there’s no better way to enjoy it than at Marian Manor in West Jefferson. The home is in a beautiful location and is close enough to town that walking around and enjoying the small-town atmosphere is a breeze. Marian is a fantastic host and did a wonderful job of showing me around the area and making me feel welcome. It was great fun to meet the locals at the farmers market and explore the stunning mountain scenery. Hiking around Mt. Jefferson was a blast and kayaking down the New river was an incredible experience. Marian Manor was a delight to visit and I’d recommend it to anyone.
We are grandparents who were taking our two 8 & 10 year old grandsons from Missouri to see the Great Smokey Mountains. We wanted to try a rental in the area and we were lucky enough to find Marian Manor in West Jefferson,N.C. Anything you could want or need is already there including comfortable beds, clean bathrooms, well equipped kitchen and front and back decks. Our grandsons loved the place as much as we did.We will be back for sure!!!
My family recently had the opportunity to stay at Marian Manor when we brought my daughter to freshman orientation at Appalachian State. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. There was plenty of room for our family of 4. We didn't cook our meals at the house, but the kitchen was well-equipped if we wanted to. The Ingles grocery store nearby rivals the stores we are accustomed to in Houston (I was very impressed!). The neighborhood was quiet, & we loved watching the nightly firefly display, as well as all the birds who visited the well-stocked bird feeders. We definitely hope to stay here again! Thanks, Marian, for the wonderful accommodations!
