I have stayed at this condominium twice in the last year. The location is unbeatable -- when you wake up in the morning you can see and hear the ocean from your bed. The condo is modern and well equipped, and the complex is beautiful, tons of plants and well maintained, and two gorgeous pools and tennis courts. I can't wait to go back.
The bottom line is the place is awesome; go without hesitation.
My family of 4 (including 2 kids, 6 and 2) stayed in this place for spring break. The location of the building is great--right next to one of the two parks on the island. The beach area is very spacious; because of the park adjacent to the building's area, there is even fewer people. We did not drive and walked everywhere - a 10-15 min walk to the CVS/grocery store/restaurant areas. The apartment is pretty big - 1,400 sq ft or so. The kitchen is very big for a 2BR condo. It even feels larger because the living area and the second bedroom are combined by default. We had breakfast every morning enjoying the ocean view; had lunch and evening desert on the balcony. There were almost no bugs (very little right after a rain at night). I slept in the second bedroom with the balcony door open enjoying the sound of the ocean while falling asleep and waking up. The condo complex has two outdoor pools (at least one is heated), a commercial grill, beautiful landscaping, beach essentials, a restaurant, gym, and more.
We love nature and animals and enjoyed iguanas and other reptiles on the island. The Bill Baggs park has a historical lighthouse, bike (including family quad bikes) rentals, iguanas, a supervised beach, and one of the best restaurants for "grilled" (actually fried) fresh fish--Boaters Grill. The Crandon park has a beach type fast food place (hotdogs/burgers/ice-cream), bike rentals (yes, quad bikes), a cute "old zoo" area within with gorgeous peacocks, iguanas, and hiding crocodiles (the locals were having lunch by the ponds nevertheless), a small nature center, and a supervised beach. You can rent a boat (any kind) at several places around the Crandon marina, and explore the island and Miami by water (stop by the Boaters Grill, check out the sand bars around) or go fishing (hint: grill and eat it right on the boat).
What we also liked is that people are very friendly (it's a relief after DC where people often pretend they cannot talk). All the restaurants are very kid-friendly. Because of the Latin family-oriented culture, there were kids practically at each table, staying for late dinner with their family and being kids. The place is very safe, you can see that because there were many local older kids and teenagers on the streets after dark. The island is no doubt upscale and expensive relative to many other areas in Miami, but at the same time very relaxed.
