This is a family-owned and run property. Caroline grew up living by the ocean and Iain has lots of happy memories of summers spent messing around in boats, so when this property came on the market it was irresistible. Our children and grandchildren have stayed here and they voted it a resounding success. Ideal for a family summer or winter-ski vacation, or for a couple to get away from it all and just sit by the water watching the sunsets and listening to the loons, we hope you will enjoy it too. Iain and Caroline are just a phone call away if you have any questions.
We loved this little cottage on the pond. We went for a quick 5 day getaway in November with no real plans of doing anything. We just wanted to get away to a small town and relax.
The house is very nicely furnished and we had zero issues during our stay.
A few things to note for future renters, while there are a few food establishments near by we typically had to drive about 30 mins up or down the road to get a bigger selection of restaurants. If you are a very tall person the house might feel small for you as the ceiling are a little low. I'm 5'9 and could easily reach up and touch them so anyone who is 6'5 or so might have to duck at door ways.
We really enjoyed the location and the quietness of the area. we are already planning to come back and stay here during a time there will be snow on the ground. We are hoping the pond will be frozen also during our next trip as it is absolutely beautiful and crystal clear.
Our security deposit was promptly refunded and we never had any communication issues with the owner. I would easily recommend this property for others to rent.
What could be better. Great spot for a family or a couple. Second bedroom has bunk beds. Main bedroom has an IKEA type platform bed. Well equipped kitchen, good TV, plenty of games & puzzles. Perfect location for sightseeing New England. Cottage is close to New London for good restaurants, shopping & ice cream. We had easy drives to Vermont, the northern NH mountains and the southern Maine coast. We climbed nearby Mt. Kearsarge & Mt Sunapee. We had a great visit & hit peak foliage, too. Wow. This was our second year at Otter Pond and hope to stay again on our next trip to New England.
The cottage is very clean and well equipped. It is simply but tastefully furnished. We went the day after Labor Day so the activity on the water was minimal. We were able to enjoy canoeing on an empty tranquil pond. The owners provided games and puzzles as well as the canoe and life jackets. They were very helpful and easy to contact. We had a great time. We are already talking about renting it again next year.
The cottage is also convenient to Quechee Gorge and the VINS Nature Center, The Shaker Museum and numerous antique stores. There are plenty of good restaurants within a reasonable drive.
The cottage is set up for year round use with central heat and a gas fireplace if your more into winter sports. Skiing is available nearby. The cottage is easy to find and close to major highways.
We have been taking a summer vacation for the past 9 years going to a different state each year. This was the best one ever! The home was perfect. Clean, well-stocked, nicely decorated, clean, beautiful location, cute yard with beautiful flowers, clean, great dock for sipping cocktails and fishing, canoe for traveling the lake and did I mention clean? I have OCD and the Sunapee House on Otter Pond was perfect. The owners were great and very helpful. The neighbors very friendly.
The fishing was WOW. My husband caught a 16-in, 16 1/2 -in and an 18-inch big mouth bass. All off the dock and on the same day! We had several fish dinners.
We like going to antique shops and found many in the area. Concord and Lancaster have a couple really good ones. Also Quechee Gorge in VT is only about 30 min away.
We always said we would never go to the same place twice for vacation, but I would love to return to Otter Pond.
The "cottage" is actually a completely modern, immaculate and comfortable house on Otter Pond. The location is excellent and central to all of the Lake Sunapee towns. The kitchen has everything and having central air is a big plus! The owner is very helpful and responsive. I hope to rent this property again.
Great location with good transportation access and close proximity to activities and places to eat. Cozy and nicely appointed cabin with ample private back yard and pond access. Would definitely recommend and will stay there again.
