This cottage has been in the family for over 30 years. After we built our cabin in the mountains we began to travel and enjoyed staying in VRBO homes. Instead of selling the house, we decided to share it with others who might be traveling to the Grapevine area. We enjoy meeting people from all parts of the country and welcome you to spend time at Lonesome Dove Retreat.
Lloyd Haevischer purchased this house in 1980
We chose the name Lonesome Dove Retreat because we are only 2 miles from the historic Lonesome Dove Baptist Church which was the first established church in the area in 1846. Author Larry McMurtry actually chose the name Lonesome Dove for his epic novel and mini-series after seeing a Lonesome Dove Church bus in the parking lot of a restaurant.
Grapevine is a charming town with something for everyone. Whether it is shopping, sporting events or Texas Wine Trails Grapevine is sure to please. Our cozy cottage is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but it is close enough to the excitement of the DFW area to make it worth your stay. After a long day of shopping, touring the wineries or attending one of the area’s many sporting events, you can enjoy our patio and hot tub complete with a flat screen TV and gas grill.
This was a lovely place to stay. We appreciated the comfortable beds and the neighborhood-great for taking a walk. Thank you.
The house was very clean and had modern amenities. There was a binder that contained useful information such as Wi-Fi password, instructions on using the wireless printer, television channel directory, and area restaurants. The neighborhood and location were nice. I would stay here again if I find my way back to Grapevine in the future.
This cute little house is tucked away in a nice quiet community. The beds are the most comfortable mattresses that I have ever slept on! Supportive, but with a soft pillow top! It is close to anything in Grapevine. The hot tub is private and clean, though the lights in it were not working (no big deal). The new propane glass rock fire feature and patio TV made relaxing in the hot tub after a long day just wonderful. Mosquitoes were a little bad. Maybe the owner could treat the back yard for them every other week. Citronella candles helped. The couch in the den is comfortable. Storage ottomans in the den vs. a coffee table. The kitchen is small but well equipped. Kitchen was stocked with coffee and teas, sweeteners, salt, pepper, spices, and basics. Fridge is nice and newer model (not the one in the picture) with great, clean ice maker. The 1 bathroom is small, but updated nicely. Please note there is no inside tub, but rather a nice walk in shower. There is a closet with a washer and dryer with detergent and softener for use. Wifi was fast and easy to connect. Satellite TV with tons of channels, but none of the typical movie providers (no HBO, etc.). Keyless door and gate locks made coming and going carefree. You enter via a side drive and motorized gate, and park behind the house in the gravel. Main St offers many shops and places to eat. Great burger at Jakes!
Clean, quiet, and well maintained. The hot tub was a big plus. Every room had a tv including the hot tub. Wifi was fantastic and the bed was amazing. Will def be back.
Thanks again for the welcome, Lloyd! The house was perfect for downtime while in town. Even more quiet, cozy and spacious than I had expected. I will definitely look to stay again when back.
The Lonesome Dove retreat was the perfect weekend getaway for my husband and me. It was very nicely and comfortably furnished, and had everything we could want. We loved being so close to Grapevine Main and Southlake Town Center with easy access on small roads. We'd love to return sometime with our family or another couple for another lovely stay.
Lovely home in a quiet neighborhood. The beds are very comfortable with luxurious linens. The spa is just right for getting the kinks out. This is our place to stay when in the Dallas area.
House is located close to DFW Airport, Grapevine Mills Mall, Legoland, Water Park, Aquarium, Southlake Town Square (shopping), Dallas Cowboy Golf Course, Texas Motor Speedway, Ball Park in Arlington, Six Flags and Cowboy's Stadium.
