About The Owner

A special place to easy relax and enjoy nature.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2004

Why The Owner chose Black Hills

In winter of 2002 our family made ski vacation at Terry Peak. While exploring the surroundings, we found in the Terry Peak housing development, 2 lots with a stunning view to the Southern Hills and Wyoming. It took us 1 year to negotiate purchase of these lots. Construction started in Spring of 2004, and we completed the home in the Summer of 2005. Since this is our home, where we will spend many holidays, we paid extra attention to custom details as one can appreciate immediately. We specifically chose local companies and materials to add authenticity to our home. These details include the masonry work which used the local field stone, the log siding which was milled in Piedmont, and harwood floors which were recycled from an old barn, the dakota mahogany granite countertops which is quaried in Milbank, SD. The custom made pine furniture was crafted by a local furniture maker in Piedmont, SD. Some of the artwork, was obtained from the Rosebud Indian Reservation, near Winner, SD. We have also added architectural details from our travels around the world such as the functioning antique Peruvian oil lamps hanging from the mantels, the Peruvian and Mexican sconces, and the Gourd light over the master jacuzee.

Sincerely,

The Schmidt-Grimmingers

Looking for an Escape

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I needed some well deserved time away from our hectic business. We chose this cabin and we are so glad we did. It is private, quiet, gorgeous, and feels like home immediatly. We loved the view and never tired of it in nine days, it changes every few minutes. We will never forget the beauty of that view.

I love to cook and the kitchen is perfect for preparing any meal, and there is a really gormet grill as well.

We got up early each day to take in the view of the daily visits from the wild turkeys, and deer. The chipmunks and squirrels were also very cute neighbors.

We four wheeled on hundreds of miles of trails and enjoyed the entire Black Hills and easily came home each day in time to cook and relax. We loved going to Spearfish Canyon for a drive and to Deadwood, so much to see and do.

Delf is a truly a very nice and thoughtful person, I felt like he really wanted us to love his home and the Hills as much as he did. We did, thank you Delf. We highly recommend this property.

Chunky Chipmunk Getaway

  • 5 of 5

The four of us were looking for a mountain-top fall getaway and we got it. The views, in the morning, were incredible. Since we like wildlife, I bought some bird seed the first day and put it around the perimeter of the property. Within a day we had chipmunks, turkeys and deer enjoying the mornings with us.

Thanks to Delf, we found Lewie's sandwich place and the Chunky Chipmunk, truffles, to add to the adventure of eating. The girls enjoyed the local casinos, we ate at Kevin Costner's casino and bought leftover Sturgis T-shirts in town. It happened that Crazy Horse's was celebrating Native American Appreciation so we watched them blow-up a little

of the monument, which seems to be taking forever to complete, then free buffalo stew. On the way back to our mountain top retreat, we stopped at the Prairie Berry Winery and sampled some enjoyable fruit flavored wines.

All was a great time and our Fall geteway was everything we hoped for and more!

Beautiful home, amazing views, and great owner

  • 5 of 5

My family recently spent a week at this home for a family reunion. The house had everything we needed (utensils, blankets, game room, hot tub, even shampoo), which I have found to be rare. The home itself was beautiful, full of features, and topped off with amazing views. The owner was courteous, and cared about our family having a great experience. He had tons of recommendations for activities in the area and great dining options. He was so great to work with! Fantastic!

Family vacation with kids and grandparents

  • 5 of 5

We were deliberating between this property and one other. I was initially concerned because this property is in a "subdivision" and we wanted something very private. My worries we're certainly unfounded as this is a very secluded and private property. We never even saw another person during our week long visit. The owner was very attentive and always promptly emailed or texted back. My husband wanted to watch a fight on pay per view one night and he immediately ordered it for and allowed us to leave him a check. Customer service wise, you could not ask for anything better. The beds were very comfortable and the cabin provided ample space for my husband and I, our five kids and 3 grand parents. For anybody that is on the fence, I promise you will not be disappointed in this property or location. we had one of the greatest weeks we've ever had, ate well, slept well and rested well. Thanks, Delf, for a great experience!!
