Carnelian Bay Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

We invite you to enjoy our warm cabin get-a-way ~ A perfect location for enjoying all things special about Lake Tahoe! We are 7 minutes from shopping in Tahoe City, 15 minutes from Squaw Valley or Northstar and only a 2 block walk to lake's edge. The cabin backs to forest land so step out the back door for miles of hiking, cross country skiing or snowshoeing. In this classic Tahoe cabin you can build a cozy wood fire or drift off to sleep in plush down covered beds. Big fluffy towels are ready for you in the 2 bathrooms and the kitchen is fully stocked if you chose to cook a big meal. On the cook's night off, you can walk down to famous Gar Woods Restaurant and sip an afternoon cocktail on their open air deck. For more causal dining you must try the calzones at CB's Pizza.

Our cabin can sleep 6-9 of your crew! A bath and 2 bedrooms are downstairs with a full bed and a queen bed. Climb up the quaint wooden stairway to find the kids bunk space with 3 singles. The master bedroom is also upstairs with a wonderfully soft King-size bed and a second bath. If other friends join you last minute, pull out the comfy convertible bed in the living room.

While the cabin is cozy for couples, it's a great space for families too. The bunkroom is a favorite for kids with plush bedding and small woodland critter stuffies on each bed to snuggle with. A nice open space in the middle of the floor is a great place to play board games or build Lego creations (Legos included!)

Downstairs you will find a game table with many choices including classics like chess, checkers & backgammon, and kids favorites such as I Spy and Cranium. The living room also holds a flat-screen TV with satellite and DVD player including a nice selection of movies for the entire family.

Outside the cabin there is a big, beautiful deck off the front with peek views of the lake. The sunrise from this deck cannot be missed! You can see the amber sunrise reflected beautifully on the lake. In the backyard you will find there is just enough of an incline to make a small sledding area for the littlest ones -- and don't forget the miles of woods to discover!

Welcome to your classic Tahoe vacation! We are holding a space for your family memories.

About Linda Lessner

Texas meets Tahoe. We are an active family with 4 young kiddos from Austin, Texas. We have loved Tahoe for many years and this cabin is part of our family dream. Two of our favorite sports are snowboarding and rock climbing--both are great in Tahoe!

Linda Lessner purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Linda Lessner chose Lake Tahoe North Shore

Carnelian Bay is a beautiful area of Lake Tahoe. We have been coming to the northwest corner of the lake since 1997. The people are friendly and very interested in all things outdoors! This corner so centrally located to many things we love including snowboarding, activities in Tahoe City and rafting the Truckee River. Being so close to Highway 267, we like that it is easy to get to and from Reno Airport especially when you get some last minute snow!

What makes this cabin unique

This cabin feels like home. It is so cozy and laid back. My favorite vision is waking up on 'Texas time' to catch the morning sunrise. The first time I saw it I was amazed by the amber colors reflecting off the lake. It is so peaceful here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Hi Linda,

I just wanted to let you know that we all loved your cabin. It was the perfect Tahoe getaway. Old Tahoe charm with the cozy comforts you've added made for a delightful weekend. It will most likely be the last time for a while my group will getaway as a family and we made very happy memories to take with us. Thank you very much and I'm sure we will be calling again for future trips in summer. Take care.

Cozy Carnelian Bay Cabin

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (plus our small dog) had a lovely stay at the Lessner's cabin. Quaint cabin, perfect for a family- my 6 year old twins were thrilled with all the Legos and toys available and my 15 year old liked the X-box. It snowed both Saturday and Sunday, lucky for us the cabin had a few sleds stored under the deck. Cabin has 2 private bedrooms downstairs, snug, but perfect for sleeping. Upstairs the open loft is great for kids (3 twin beds) and the attached master bedroom and bath are all well appointed. The house was as expected upon arrival, kitchen well-stocked and linens provided. Very short walk to the lake and Garwood's or 7-11 if you need firewood (or to send your kids on a walk for 'treats'). While private with an open back, the cabin has neighbors to each side, there is an easement of forest to explore and several hundred yards back I believe a set of condos edge the forest. Appreciate the responsiveness of the owners and the great "cabin" feel of this home. Thank you!

Perfect spot for us, close to our daughter's house. Great front deck looking into the woods. Plenty of room indoors for family dinners, lots of games and puzzles. Appreciate the Tahoe books and magazines. Walked down to the fabulous Old Post Office for breakfast. Had a great stay on a sunny November weekend.

Charming cabin, great location, well-stocked, lots of perks!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at this cabin. The owners keep the place well-stocked on essentials - -coffee, condiments, cooking spices, even the ice trays were full! This property is not on the water, but it's less than a 5 minute walk away. This has a "cabin in the woods" feel, not a "lake house" feel, and no direct view of the water from the house. That didn't matter to us, but should be kept in mind depending on what kind of experience you're after. The deck was great, with comfortable chairs and lounges, a BBQ grill, propane hibachi, and fire pit that got LOTS of usage. Night time here is beautiful and peaceful, even with a few neighbors who were also enjoying themselves loudly.

The owner was very friendly and prompt with communication. We loved it, and will almost definitely stay here again.

My only partially negative comment is that the house itself, while beautiful and charming, felt a little smaller than it looked in the pictures. It's cozy, not spacious; so again it just depends on what kind of experience you're looking for.

Nice well kept property, somewhat tight quarters

  • 3 of 5

The cabin was very nicely prepared for guests ... It was very clean, and everything on the property (fixtures, bedding & linens, appliances, etc.) was of decent quality and either new or in a good state of repair. The north shore location, walking distance to food (pricey but good drinks) and 7-11, was just what we were looking for.

The owner Linda was a pleasure to do business with, and very quick to respond to the rental query and questions. Check-in was a breeze with the combo lock box.

TV and Internet were top rate, which was nice (yes, we still used those on vacation).

So ... why the three stars? The main living quarters, living, dining room and kitchen, were fine for a cabin. But the sleeping and bathing quarters were quite cramped. Neither downstairs bedroom is wide enough for two adults to be able to climb out of bed at the same time.

The upstairs master bed/bath was enough square footage, but is a little over 6' at its tallest, with a lot of areas where you have to lean over and around, or could bang your head.

Almost all the storage space in the cabin was consumed by cleaning supplies or linens, so we had to just leave things in our suitcases on one of the beds downstairs.

The stairs were small, tight and steep ... please take a look at the picture. I ended up being ok with them, but my wife was uncomfortable with the stairs the whole trip. We would have been more comfortable and safe if we had been shorter, younger, and more spry!

Overall, I would recommend this cabin for a young couple with small kids.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your thoughtful review of our cabin. It is very helpful when our guests let others know how the cabin worked for their family. Yes, the cabin is built to 1950's specs and is small in some areas. We try to make the most of the space! ;). It is a good choice for families, and the second largest demographic of our guests is retirees! I do agree with you that if the small stairs are a concern it may not be the property for everyone. Thanks again! Linda

Charming Tahoe Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We (a family of four) really enjoyed our stay at this Tahoe cabin. The place is functional and charming, featuring lovely decorative touches in all rooms. The kitchen is well stocked and the deck has a charcoal grill. The backyard gave our young kids plenty of opportunities for exploration. I had a question for the owner once we arrived and received an immediate response. We definitely hope to be back.
