We are a family of 4 two children ages 16 and 13.
We have traveled to Roatan with my children and the children and our friends, everyone comes away asking to go back. We have home schooled and traveled most of the world over several years 3 months in Asia, 4 months in South America, many months in Europe,
but this remains my families top pick of places to go.
jerri bell purchased this house in 2003
We love this home it's in a local area that is safe and the people are friendly. It is a place for our family to go and unwind from the city life. We have been traveling to Roatan for years and love the Island life this house provides. I think this is best location on the entire island for the view and security of being on a key. We have a full time caretaker that provides transportation to and from the island.
This property can be rented as a 3 bedroom 2 bath for $1200.00 per week or a 7 bedroom 6 bath for 2,400.00 a week.
The views are unbeatable and you can set on the front porch and observe lots of wild life. We have seen pilot whales, spinning dolphins, whale shark, turtles, birds. Its just amazing.
The unblocked view wonderful and since we are not in a large area of people the night stars feel like you could reach up and grab them. There are not many places that the lights do not disturb the night sky. The night sky from the dock is worth the trip. In our salt water pool we have wildlife pilot, fish, eel. you will be amazed at what you can see in the day or night.
We loved it here. If you want a place off the beaten path to truly relax and enjoy, this is the place. As divers it was a paradise. Diving right in your front yard to an amazing wall full of life and coral formations. A dive shop right next door at the Reef House that also provided boat dives to other sights. It was fun to socialize there and enjoy a drink or meal. Davey the owner was great. The house itself is set up great. All bedrooms have air conditioners and the beds were comfy. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed and then there is George. However we suggest freezing your meat till you use it. The owner arranged to have us met by a cab that managed to get the six of us, all 15 pieces of luggage and a stop at the grocery store where we stocked up for the week, in it. We met George at the pier who transported all of us and our things to the Cay which is really close to the house. George took care of everything including a quick trip to the pharmacy, to filling bottled water and a personal tour of the area and mangroves. Just let him know what you need and he'll help you. We ate all our meals on the porch, and having a washer and dryer were awesome. There is a " natural saltwater pool" out front that we enjoyed daily. We saw a moray eel, barracuda, trumpetfish, lion fish and more right there! Also watching the parrotfish each morning dance in the surf as they went for crabs was amazing. And if you love animals pack some doggie treats for Anna who lives behind the house, she's a sweetheart. We hated to leave yesterday, but We hope to go back. We rented just the main house, but with rooms in back all with their own bathrooms 20 people can be accommodated. We actually had Philippe Cousteau Jr and his group stay there a couple nights while in Oakridge filming a documentary. Plenty of books to read and games to play at night. Everything went as planned from airport pick up to drop off, just as Jerri has promised. Thank you for letting us use your little piece of paradise. So missing that view today.
We loved this place - full of character and very comfortable. It has everything we needed. George the caretaker was very fast to help us if we needed anything at all. You cannot beat the view and we would certainly love to stay there again on a future trip.
My wife and I stayed 7 nights at the home over the Valentines Day week. We found it to be very comfortable with great nightly breezes. We used the air conditioning but probably would have been perfectly comfortable without it. The house was very clean and well equipped with everything you would need to cook. We hired a cook for the week which was awesome! However, I would only have her cook 2 meals a day instead of 3 just to keep from eating way to much and to increase privacy. $100 worth of crab, lobster, and fish caught by a local guy the day we arrived kept us in nice dinners all week. We stopped into one of the grocery stores for other food on our way to the home on arrival day. I was presently surprised how nice it was. They take American dollars and credit cards there. I can't recall the name but there are 2 of them on the island.
We ate all of the meals, had morning coffee, and of course consumed adult beverages out on the porch. The view and breezes were wonderful. I think we could've just lived in that part of the house.
There were very few bugs during our stay. No matter where we went. A huge plus.
The reef out front, just past the end of the pier was fantastic! No boat necessary. Just hop off the end of the pier and you can explore all the reef you want. The reef wall drops off to about 600 feet of water which is pretty amazing for only a couple hundred feet from the house.
The pond in front of the house was full of life. We saw a barracuda, conch, snapper, a flounder, parrot fish, lion fish, and a blue octopus that came out every night. You could literally jump on top of them from the house patio. Bring a flashlight to see the night creatures.
The dive shop next door, The Reef House, was a very cool little spot. We would walk over after dinner and have a beer from there bar and play dominos with the owner and some of the staff. It was a great place to get a little social activity if you wanted it. They are super friendly over there.
We did manage to see some other parts of Roatan. The island is a beautiful place with all kinds of great views of the ocean and reef system.
Can't wait to go back to see more of it.
3 weeks goes fast when it feels like you're home ! Everything you need to make your stay fun and peaceful. The reef house is right there for the diving, snorkeling, having a few beers or even a meal. The house is on the perfect spot for amazing sunrise, kitchen fully equipped and all commodities. Cable for the TV's is not working properly but still watchable (wish it would have been better for the kids though). Make sure you have enough Lempira to buy your own water and toilet paper (that one, i still don't understand !!! ) Apparently, only the first bottle and rolls are included!??
None the less, it was a great rental for the whole family and George "the care taker payaso" will do his best to help you out with any needs ;-)
Our week at this beautiful place was so restful! It was a joy to be there with the constant surf outside the deck, you have your own personal natural swimming area steps from the door.
This home is off the grid but well appointed! The kitchen has everything you need to cook lucious red snapper, lobster, and crab,, the owners have thought of everything to make your stay fabulous from the pick up from the airport to the grocery stop to the short boat ride to the house. The reef house diving center is next door with the option to enjoy fellow travelers or their meals. Be sure to get some cafe oro coffee- fantastic!. Love this place!
Part of me doesn't want to give such a great review but I truly feel I need to. We traveled just after Christmas, my teen son my preteen daughter and husband and we're the kind of travelers that would rather never see another tourist at all. Let me say this place fit us perfect. Phones turned off only electronics we brought were a laptop to do workouts for my son and a jambox to listen to music! We brought our own snorkeling gear but could easily go next door to the reef house to get everything we needed for a low price. Convenience of a well stocked grocery store easily finding EVERY AMERICANIZED name brand need. Also there's a little store the key quicky store just in case u need more bottled water. The house kitchen is as equipped as my own at home! I love to cook! Only thing I found funny missing was a pizza cutter. lol but who but us would eat pizza on an island! George the caretaker and water taxi driver was so nice and accommodating! Offering to help us with anything and everything! Gina the house lady also cooked us up a local meal that was delicious. I cooked almost every other meal and we only ate out twice. I do recommend eating at the reef house next door. Delicious! And Elam (not sure if that's his name) the fisherman - wow - talk about fresh fish! King crab, grouper, snapper and my favorite LOBSTER! Fresh and cleaned and did I mention fresh!! Exactly what these landlocked seafood lovers dreamed about having available. And lastly the view, the water experiences! Everything from seeing puffer fish the size of a large dog to the schools of parrot fish and more! I suggest a visit to the iguana park and ziplining tour that Dave the taxi driver would take you to. So awesome. We spent most of our days in sheer comfort. The breezes with the open doors and windows in the main living area to the extreme comfort and luxury of air conditioning to sleep in. Large rooms and huge bathrooms. Plus ability to wash clothes! It was just as fun to piddle around in the pool out front as it was to go beyond and find the reef literally out the back door to see gorgeous God made entertainment. We didn't even turn the tv on (well maybe 2 times) which had cable (my daughter however loved the kids channels in her room). Books, games, art supplies, I mean this home was I would say better than a home away from home! Dave, Gina, Elam, the reef house people and most especially George helped make this trip an awesome one for my entire family! Thank you!
