Waters Edge at Pickett's Harbor is a beautiful house in a wonderful setting on the western side of Virginia's Eastern Shore about 7-miles north of the Bay Bridge Tunnel. It is a very private location (no other houses for close to a mile in either direction along the beach) and literally steps from a great sandy beach on the Chesapeake Bay. The view of the bay from the house is phenomenal. The house was very well appointed and nice and clean. We did a lot of beach walking, swimming, canoe paddling, sunning and enjoying meals at a number of good Cape Charles restaurants. There is a lot to see at the nearby parks and wildlife refuges. This rental is highly recommended.
Relaxing and comfortable on your own private beach!
House is fabulous.
No neighbors was unbelievable.
Our family of 4 walked the beach daily, played in the water and took full advantage of the closet full of games in the evenings.
Sunsets were gorgeous!
Thank you fora great stay.
We came down with our 3 kids who are aged 3 to 7. Initially we were worried about keeping everyone entertained and happy, including us parents- when we arrived, the view took my breath away! The beach was soft and not too wide that our 3 year old would get frustrated with the trek to the water- and the waves were enough for us to allow the kids in the water without worrying that they would be swept away! Over the course of the week we experienced so many varying views and waterscapes- it was never a bore!
Some of the highlights of the stay for us:
- wildlife! We had the pleasure of viewing stingrays in the surf, needlefish, ghost crabs, pelicans, cormorants, and even a BALD EAGLE feasting on a fish! We saw dolphins as well and every day we couldn't wait to see what else would pop in to greet us! I even found a sand dollar one afternoon. It was so cool and the kids loved all of the new, interesting things! Great learning opportunity, too!
- the hot tub! I wasn't even aware of the hot tub and its not something I would seek out- the beach was more than enough for us- but the hot tub was nice for a change- the view of the stars at night was really quite amazing!
- all of the sand-toys and beach accessories! I had no idea the treasure trove that awaited us! Anything you could imagine was there! It was a challenge getting it all back inside the storage closet, but.... :)
The house is gorgeous- that wasn't the focus for us, but it was a really nice home with anything you might need already on site. Beautiful decor, comfortable layout- can't beat it!
All in all, it was the most perfect vacation we have ever taken. The remote setting was a much-needed change of pace for our busy family- the locals were so friendly and I just couldn't be more pleased with our experience! Highly recommend and might just book again in the future!
1st class vacation! Our family of 10 (ages from 2-60) experienced one of the best vacations ever! Such a secluded location, we felt like we owned the Bay. The beach was perfect for us with lots of shallow water to enjoy with the kids. We fished, crabbed, kayaked, swam, ate like Kings-kitchen was equipped with anything you could ever need-& even hosted a crab feed with some friends from the area! Even the linens and towels provided were 1st class! Will Definitely be returning next yesr😎☀️
Our family of 3 adults, 2 seniors, and 2 children (6 and 2) fell in love with this house. We have been beach-hoppers, committed to finding a new beach and beach home to explore each summer. However, we ALL agreed that this one cannot be topped. The view from every room in the house is stunning. The house was well-stocked from the kitchen to the game closet to the beach equipment. We started each day in the hot tub, then moved the few steps down to the practically private beach. It would be generous to say a dozen people crossed our path while we were there. At one point, my 2-year old asked, "Mom, why is that person walking on our beach?" Ha! You really do feel like you have your own slice of heaven at Pickett's Harbor. We got more out of this beach house than any other. It was so convenient that we often were on the beach twice per day--the hot outdoor shower made for easy clean-up. We rented a kayak for the week and enjoyed kayaking with the dolphins, which we saw almost daily before dusk. We spent most of our beach time in the water, which the adults hadn't done in years! We were pleased with the variety of conditions--at times, we were able to enjoy almost flat calm, warm waters. Other times, there were waves big enough to excite the 6-year old. And, when we weren't on the beach, it was still a constant presence in the beautiful views and the nearness of the crashing waves. We took a couple short trips to Cape Charles, which is about 15 minutes away. It's a quaint town--fun for some souvenir shopping. Try the coffee ice cream at the Brown Dog. We also crossed the bridge-tunnel to have a nice birthday dinner at Mannino's Bistro, which did not disappoint. We had never been to Virginia Beach, so after dinner we drove over. My kids wanted to ride the amusements. We indulged them but were chomping at the bit to leave the crowds and get back to our peaceful retreat. Generally, I like to explore while on vacation, but whenever someone suggested going out, I felt like saying, "Fine...but just for a little while." Lest, I sound completely partial and infatuated, I'll add that a couple days the biting flies were so bad that we literally ran back to the house. Most days, they were no problem at all. The game room smell bothered us--we tried be pass through quickly, which is too bad because my son wanted to play. Spoiled as I was, I wished for more screened in porch with room to dine out there. I just couldn't get enough of the views! Best. House. Ever.
Our family of five adults and three children had a wonderful stay at Water's Edge. The location is picturesque and secluded. The house is beautiful and very well equipped. Good use was made of the bikes to explore the surrounding area and the canoe was used for fishing. We brought our stand-up paddle boards and found the bay to be mostly calm and perfect for the boards. Mostly however, we enjoyed relaxing on the beach (very few bugs) or watching the world move slowly by from the porch, from where we saw 8-10 Porpoises while drinking coffee one morning. The resounding vote by the whole family was to return next year.
