Thank you for the great stay! The cottage was nice and cozy. Our children enjoyed the swim in the pool! Fantastic views, sunrise was spectacular even in the rain! Beautiful water fall, such a treat to see. Kids liked seeing all of the animals. Thank you. Leina and Keith
I couldn't have made a better choice in Hilo! The cottage is quintessential old Hawaiian plantation architecture and is set off by itself on picturesque farmland complete with horses, sheep, and views to the ocean. It is spacious, very clean and comfortably decorated, and has lovely, high-quality bedding and towels. The owner is kind and unobtrusive, and her friendly, small dogs are a sweet greeting party. It's an easy 10 minute drive into Hilo and located very close to the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden and Akaka Falls (both of which are must-see sights). I truly felt sorry for all the folks who settled for generic hotel accommodations or all the other VRBO choices which couldn't possibly measure up to this great find.
We have stayed at the cottage several times and love it. We love the country feel while being close to Hilo and easy to get to all parts of the Island. After a day of adventures and sight seeing, we love returning to the cottage to enjoy the pool and hot tub. The cottage overlooks the ocean and you can enjoy watching the ships go by from the front porch swing. The property has its very own private waterfall and pond just a short walk from the cottage. The sunrises are amazing, especially from the pool.
The landlords are friendly wonderful people who try to do everything possible to insure that you have a fantastic stay. They offer information regarding things of interest to do on the Island and the best places to eat. Their little dogs are so sweet and love to come visiting.
The property is fenced and gated and no one else is on the property except the landlords. The cottage is so secure and private that there isn't a need to even lock the doors. It is a very quiet relaxing place to stay.
We would highly recommend The Cottage to anyone visiting the wonderful Big Island of Hawaii.
Our 3-day stay at Pu’u Moi cottage during a recent two-week vacation to Hawaii was beyond wonderful. This property was the highlight of our trip, and we only wish we had booked more time there. The cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed. From the beautiful meadow, to the adjacent farm, to the cute little dogs (that my son loved!), to the private swimming pond and waterfall, to the amazing view of the Pacific from the infinity pool, Pu-uo Moi cottage is a slice of paradise. Just a few miles from Hilo, it is well situated for visiting Volcano National Park and for visits to local beaches, botanical gardens and nearby zip-lining. But the property is so great, you may not want to leave it! The owners, Steve and Keala are very friendly and accommodating, and we all had a great Stand Up Paddle lesson from Keila at nearby Hilo Bay. We highly recommend staying at Pu’u Moi Cottage and hope to get back there for a longer visit some day!
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage!! Beautiful views, great hospitality, and comfy beds!! We will likely stay here again!!
Clean, well appointed cottage.Very easy contact and plenty of info given before arrival.
Our only slight issue... living in Asia we are used to insects of all description and sizes, however the cockroaches were elephants here!!
Beautiful place, perfect quiet private location with breathtaking views, warm caring owners, cozy comfy cottage with more than everything we needed,
friendly sweet dogs that greet us every morning, and the best pool ever!!
We( 7yr old son, hubby and 16yr old niece) stayed for 6 nights, but wished we stayed longer. It was a dream like time for us, I woke up early every morning to watch the sunrise from the lanai, gorgeous. And in the evening the moon rise if the skies are clear.
The cottage is a 15~20 minute easy drive to Hilo town, I recommend Pestos, a bit pricey but the food was the best and worth all the money spent.
Beaches, Carlesmith Beach park was our favorite. Safe, beautiful and fun for kids.
The owner of the land took us paddle boarding and it was amazing. We paddled to coconut Island park and my husband saw turtles, we were busy jumping off the rocks.
Also there is a beautiful waterful just behind the land, very short walk down the hill, a brilliant cool dip after a hot day out in the sun. A true gem on the island.
We highly recommend this cottage. There was absolutely nothing we disliked about it.
We are located on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island in the town called Papaikou. Papaikou was once a thriving sugar cane plantation where charming homes of the past still stand. Papaikou is located 7 miles form Hilo.
