The Hoff House sits just off the square in Stockton, Missouri 30 minutes from Bolivar (great antique shopping) 1 hour north of Springfield, Missouri (and Bass Pro Shop), 1.5 hours from Branson (Silver Dollar City and shows) and 2.5 hours south of Kansas City. The home sits just minutes from one of the top 10 sailing lakes in the country, Stockton Lake. Swimming, fishing, and boating of all kinds are also enjoyed there. The home is within walking distance from restaurants, banks/ATM's, coffee/gift shop, pharmacy, and a health food store.
The Hoff House is the perfect place to return for a BBQ, a game of horseshoes and drinks on the porch after a long day at the lake. It is spacious inside and out. There is ample room on the 2 acres surrounding the home for parking and play. The kitchen, dining room and living room are open so that the cook in the kitchen can be a part of all the activities. There is a 10 person harvest table in the dining room. There is 1 queen bedroom, 1 king bedroom, and 1 full bath downstairs. Upstairs, there is 1 queen bedroom, 1 bedroom with 1 double bed with 2 twins, 1 king daybed bedroom and another double bedroom upstairs with 2 more full baths. The large masterbath is upstairs and includes 2 pedastal sinks, a jetted hot tub, private toilet and shower. There is also a separate sitting area upstairs. There is an upper deck, a porch (great for coffee in the morning) and another deck with picnic table on the backside of the home overlooking a large grassy area. It's a wonderful place to sit and relax with friends and family.
Because of the spaciousness of the home the Hoff House has become a favorite destination for reunions, anniversaries, retreats, and annual family events. It's close proximity to the lake offers fisherman and boaters a home away from home.
The Hoff House is a historical Civil War era home totally remodeled in 2003. Many of the original attributes of the home have been maintained in the remodel. The original staircase and parts of the wood pinned framing are still integral parts of the home. The harvest table for 10 was built using wood from the original home. Wood from the original home was also used create ceiling beams giving the home a warm, inviting feel.
The Hoff House and the place that it resides offers a reminder of a time when things didn't move so fast and family and friends and the laughter that they bring were the entertainment.

Our desire to preserve one of the oldest historical Civil War home in the area led us to the remodeling of the home and then to making it a vacation destination for others.
We absolutely loved the house and everything in it!! It was decorated beautifully and especially liked the plaques and pictures giving the history of the house and it's former owners. Your family is to be commended for preserving such a great, old house and for sharing it with us. It is a great place to hold a family get together and we look forward to renting it again in the future.
Our large family stayed at the Hoff House in July 2016 and were quite pleased with the accommodations! Everyone had a good time, including the children who appreciated the basket of yard games/toys! The only issue we had was that the washer wasn't working
and we were counting on being able to wash our beach towels before heading straight to our next destination, but things happen, right? Do not hesitate to give the charming Hoff House a chance to accommodate your groups' time in this quaint lake town! We certainly enjoyed having the entire family together in one place!
We were pleased with the house, plenty of room for 12. House is old with charm. Great bedrooms on all floors, with two on the bottom and 4 upstairs. Large kitchen and 3 decks, two on lower level and 1.25 on upper. Close to the small square for exploring and lake real close and great hiking trails!
Simply stated, the Hoff House is just a great place to stay. The house has been restored to the point that it retains the character of the era it was built, but also has all of the comforts and amenities that will have you coming back again. There is tons of space and the beds are as comfortable as any upscale hotel I have stayed at (I've been to plenty). The location of the house is about as good as it gets if you are looking for quiet without being isolated. There is a grocery store five minutes away and a great little gift/ice cream shop - called the Emporium - just up the hill from the home. The books provided by the owner, ranging from history of the families who have owned the home, to the area surrounding the home provide for some great reading and will draw you into the spirit of the place. The stairs are a bit on the steep side but that is just how homes were built in the "old days" so not enough to detract. The stove in the kitchen could use some TLC but outside of that, the kitchen is well stocked, and we did plenty of cooking during our TWO stays at the Hoff House including a full Thanksgiving dinner. No issues at all with putting on a big feed at this place - a huge dining room table provides all the space needed for a crowd. The owners are great to work with and I can't thank them enough for the delightful Christmas decorations and tree that were in place when we arrived for our second stay. All in all, this was a great experience and we found ourselves looking for a reason to come back to the area and stay at the Hoff again. Five stars all the way!
Our family stayed in the Hoff House for 3 nights. The home was very charming with TONS of space. Also within walking distance to coffee house and other conveniences. It was just a short drive to the lake. We will definitely return!
The Hoff House was family central for a recent gathering. Lots of space for children and adults to spread out - it was extra hot and w/ drought conditions so we didn't spend much time outside -- but plenty of space there if the weather had coordinated. Beds were comfortable, kitchen better stocked than many, all in all a great value.
Stairs to upstairs are steep by today's standards -- frail and/or elderly would likely find them challenging.
My family and I loved the history and character of this home. It has a lot of space. It maintains the unique look of an 1850's home with updated amenities. It is super close to Stockton Lake which we went to for boating and swimming. I would recommend it for a large group or big family.
The Hoff House is located right off the square in a small town called Stockton, Missouri which is primarily a lake town. The lake is called Stockton Lake and offers many different types of lake activities but is primarily known for great fishing and sailing. The lake is especially nice due to the fact that the Corp of Engineers owns the shore close to the lake and so homes and crowds do not clutter the shoreline. It's very family friendly.
