Everything about our stay was wonderful from the prompt emails booking our stay until the gate closing as we left for the last time. Alvaro and Bruce guided us in to their amazing property over the phone. Our room was spacious, charming, very clean and we had the most gorgeous view! Comfortable bed with nice linens. More than adequately stocked kitchen. Bruce's fantastic paintings as well as an assortment of their extensive art collection just made the place seem refreshingly outside of the box.
The pool is one of the prettiest and most serene pools I have ever had the pleasure of hanging out at - every bit as private as our room. Alvaro (and Bruce) gave us the most incredible guided tour of their gardens.
Steps Beach is just down the hill. The use of a washer and dryer was a nice surprise as well as beach chairs.
It was every bit as peaceful of a setting as we expected it to be. We highly recommend this beautiful place! And we are so very happy to have made such awesome new friends! Can't wait to see you again! All of our best wishes, Megan and Gregg Glick
Where to begin? Arrival would be a wonderful place to start. We were expertly guided into this private gated villa by both owners. While I was on the phone with Bruce, Alvaro was patiently waiting at the gate in the rain. We stopped our car in front of a beautiful courtyard where they both help us unload and welcomed us with a wine toast and tour of the apartment. It did not feel like an apartment. It was so private and spacious and conducive to outdoor life. The gardens at this Villa are magnificent and each plant was lovingly chosen and planted by the owner. Three acres of lush tropical paradise. While the days were busy with visiting various beaches, snorkel beach, swimming beach, surf beaches, sea glass hunt beaches, so many beaches, all from a three minute drive to a 40 minute drive. By night, many restaurants, beach bars, anything you want or just stay at home and cook and relax on the lovely veranda and listen to the variety of birds which also make magnificent sounds for sleeping. The apartment is well equipped for cooking and there is a farmers market on Sunday in town and a supermarket within a 5 minute drive. The best breakfast place in town is a very brief walk just outside your gate with a magnificent view of the ocean. The villa is decorated with the beautiful artwork of one of the owners. They are most gracious hosts who leave you to your privacy, yet willing to answer any questions at anytime.
Please do not hesitate to trust the the reservation process. Alvaro has it down to a science and the procedures are a little different than most. The PO Box mailing address is necessary as there is no mail delivery up the hill. It is for your safety as well as his, that a check be mailed in advance. Alvaro likes to speaks to his intended guests and I, too, felt better after having a conversation with him and his co-owner. I cannot say enough about the owners. They were delightful, engaging, interesting and wonderful to work with. I don't want to sell this place too well, because I want to keep my spot open to return. You cannot go wrong with this choice! Missing Rincon and our little piece of paradise already.
My wife and I truely enjoyed our stay in La Casa Loma. Very nice veranda .We cooked some of our meals there which was fun.The pool is private and peaceful.Abundant flora and wildlife. We always felt very secure knowing and enjoying the home owner hospitality.
I can be a bit skeptical when I see nothing but five stars in a review because it's hard to believe anything is perfect. Vacation getaways are especially dicey because there are so many high expectations, it's easy to be disappointed. In the case of Villa Lomas, however, it's safe to believe all the good press.
We booked the villa about two months before our stay and almost canceled because my husband suffered a shoulder injury. Though it meant we couldn't do as much as we originally hoped to do, we decided to stick with our plans, and we’re glad we did -- this was an incredibly fun and relaxing vacation, a largely thanks to Alvaro and Bruce and their wonderful villa.
The villa is obviously a labor of love, reflected indoors and outdoors. The gardens are magnificent and we spent over an hour with Alvaro learning about the countless varieties of plants and trees used to create a serene and gorgeous backdrop to the villa. Pictures don't do it justice. The house is also beautiful -- and spanking clean -- and the wide-open decks were perfect for winding down after a day at the beach (some conversation, wine, napping) or eating breakfast. The bed was comfortable, and the apartment had everything we needed if we wanted to cook (we kept it to a couple of breakfasts and morning tea), as well as bath and beach supplies. Really, there's nothing Alvaro and Bruce haven't thought of; it's pretty much just bring your clothes and you're set.
Alvaro and Bruce were gracious and thoughtful hosts, making suggestions we felt made the trip perfect. Considering my husband's injury, Alvaro suggested a beach not in our travel guide that was close by yet virtually private with calm waves that weren’t difficult to swim in. Their restaurant suggestions were a success and we also enjoyed sharing a glass of wine one evening and some morning coffee with them, learning more about them and appreciating the opportunity to see more of Bruce's art beyond what’s in the rental.
The location is a double-edged sword because it's on top of a hill, accessed by a winding, narrow road. That means it offers wonderful views (including an incredible rainbow one morning!) and the noise of the frogs at night (soothing to us). However, it's an intimidating drive at first. If you're planning to rent an SUV, reconsider because you likely won't need it and all the roads in Rincon are narrow. Pay attention and use your low gear to go up and down and you’ll be fine.
No question about it, we'll be back.
My wife and I stayed in Alvaro and Bruce's magnificent home for a little getaway following our wedding. Villa Lomas exceeded our expectations! The home is on the top of a hill, with stunning views of the ocean and lush gardens with hundreds of plants and trees that Alvaro and Bruce planted themselves and tend to. Alvaro even went out of his way to give us an extensive tour of the garden. The pool, which was entirely ours and private, was a wonderful treat. The pool was so clean (and had a waterfall) and was extremely refreshing.
The apartment itself opens out to a large beautiful terrace (also very private), and we spent most of our time out there. The terrace also has a barbeque, and we grilled one night while overlooking the amazing Rincon sunset. We brought our binoculars and were able to spot countless birds in the trees surrounding the villa, and at night, the coqui frogs reminded us that we were truly in nature.
The apartment itself was very clean had everything we needed and was decorated with Bruce's beautiful paintings. The bed also was very comfortable - we slept like babies. We cannot say enough about our stay, and as frequent world travelers, we place our stay at Villa Lomas among our favorite. Alvaro and Bruce were great hosts - accessible when needed but also respected our privacy.
The Villa also is a quick 10 minute drive from most things in Rincon, and only right down the hill from Steps Beach and some great restaurants. We will surely be back. Thank you Alvaro and Bruce for sharing your beautiful home with us!
My wife and I had booked this villa last year and due to airline difficulties (no plane) we had to cancel our trip. When my wife called in tears to let Alvero and Bruce know they graciously let us book this year and the wait was well worth it! The villa is at the top of the hill with 360 views of the ocean and hills around us. It is extremely private and the owners keep it that way. As mentioned in previous reviews, Alvero meets you at the front gate leading you down a gravel driveway to another locked sliding gate to the parking area. Once inside you can see that the place is well taken care of and lovingly furnished with nothing but top of the line furnishings. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was outfitted with everything you would need. We have stayed in many places in Rincon and have found the furniture to sometimes be what the owners have brought from their main home or bought from Walmart. You will not find that here. The main veranda is beautiful, over 50 ft. long with fantastic wicker furniture. The pillows on the sofas and chairs are soft white and very firm allowing lots of afternoon naps in the soft breeze. There is another porch/veranda overlooking the pool with a dining table and chairs that is wonderful to sit at dusk with wine and cheese. The front veranda is good for this also and to catch incredible sunsets. We found ourselves staying there for sunsets instead of the usual sunset bars with rum punch specials. Why spend money and be with dozens of people when you have your own special place? The pool is very private and is all yours for the duration of your stay and has comfortable pool furniture to hang out in. Do not miss the garden tour. Alvero and Bruce have planted over two dozen types of palm trees along with other flowering plants that Alvero is very knowledgable about and happy to share all that they have put into the place. Bruce's art, which is exhibited all around the villa, is wonderful. He exhibits in many galleries and it's great to see his work in his studio along with the many pieces of African Art he has collected for many years. Both are great hosts, very discreet but there if you need something. It was such a pleasure meeting both of them and sharing their space. We would highly recommend staying here. You are away from the bustle of the beach crowd but only 5 minutes from a great beach and the town of Rincon. We have already booked for next year and can't to get back!
