The house was very nice and there was room for all of us. We loved the porch and back deck. Our kids liked that there was bicycles too. We enjoyed it alot.
What a nice house! I was concerned because we were going right after the person who posted a terrible review. Thankfully it was like a completely different house! The house was beautiful, spacious and well laid out. We had over a dozen staying (mostly kids!) and it never felt crowded. The house is not far from the beach and was great for us. We would definitely stay there again. As for the poor review, we had zero issues with plumbing (although we suspect the drain for the jetted tub might have a tiny leak), and the power outlets just needed the reset button pressed (they are GFCI safety outlets). The only reason I'm giving it four stars rather than five is because the owner chose to cover the walkways around the house with crushed oyster shells (not uncommon), but they have retained some slight smell of the sea. This in turn has attracted just enough flies that it was annoying to sit on the porch to eat breakfast. It was a small thing, but it kept the house from being perfect.
This was the worst vacation rental I have ever done. The house was the money pit plus. First propane stench that was brushed off by owner. Then the toilets over flowed twice. Two different plumers came and it was temporarily fixed. Each time it lasted about 2 days and then we couldn't flush, couldn't shower , couldn't do laundry. What fun. There were ants all over kitchen on the 3rd day. I bought ant traps and I held them off. The outlets in kitchen didn't all work making it difficult to use coffee pot and toaster. Then on the last night there was a leak in kitchen from the ceiling g. It smelled like it came from the bathroom upstairs. Then a bubble in kitchen ceiling also formed and scared us to death. We were so afraid what might come out. When I go on vacation I hope for no stress and just relaxing fun. We had none of that only one nightmare after the other. The first plumer left a huge whe on side of house guess what was all over the ground? Yeah it was terrible. One star is too much. I write this to help anyone who might be going after me. My advise don't.
We loved our week in Cape Charles at the Quarter Master. It was lovely, charming and very clean and updated. This was the perfect vacation property for our family of 6 adults and 4 children. An easy walk to the beach and to shops and to The Brown Dog Ice Cream Parlor! Even our grandchildren said they never wanted to leave.....we're already planning our next stay in 2016
Cape Charles is a wonderful, friendly little village and the Quarter Master is one of the homes that makes it so charming. The house is located a short walk from the beach where we spent every evening at sunset and just a block from the shopping area where we helped out the local economy. We traveled the length of the Virginia portion of the peninsula and enjoyed many good restaurants, wildlife areas, small villages, and even saw the wild ponies of Assateague. The house is spacious, the kitchen is large with everything you might need. A full bathroom on the main level was a real asset and with three upstairs, no one was waiting. A new washer and dryer came in real handy. Although we walked most places, there were bikes in the back yard for our use. We are four friends that get together once a year as we are spread across the country. We were all very pleased with all that the Quarter Master had to offer and would recommend it to groups of friends or for families. It is a gem!
We rented the Quarter Master for 2 weeks in August. It was an extended visit with 3 generations, 6 adults and 2 kids (4 and 2). We were pleasantly surprised with new furniture that was not in the pictures. There was a new sectional couch in the family room and new table and chairs in the kitchen. We were able to fit 6 people on the sectional at one time. The beds were comfortable and it was nice to have master suites for all adults. The front formal rooms were a nice place to spread out. It allowed us to put kids toys in a separate place and have another location for R and R.
With little kids it was a distance to walk to the beach for my 2 year old especially with all the stuff they wanted to bring. We ended up driving with all the kids stuff. There was always a parking place so it was no problem. The bay was fantastic. Our kids (4/2) have never enjoyed the beach with the waves and tides until this year. They were in it more than the adults which is a sign of a great vacation!!!
