About The Owner

My wife Lori and I have been visiting the island every winter since 1980. When we decided it was where we wanted to be, we started constructing Casa Azul a little at a time until it was finally finished in 2008. We are striving to keep it reasonable so anyone can afford to vacation on this lovely island as we have for so many years.

The Owner purchased this apartment in 1996

Why The Owner chose Isla Mujeres

We purchased the property and built the vacation rental in this location because of the sea view, while still being somewhat shielded from the effects of storms and the erosion caused by waterfront property.

What makes this apartment unique

Only a short distance from the main village, a quiet neighborhood with a local flare

Heaven on Isla

  • 5 of 5

I've been staying on Isla Mujeres for twelve (12) years, renting various places ranging from high end hotels, beach front casitas and places such as Casa Azul. To say this is a rare find is an understatement! The price is excellent, the owners are incredibly responsive, the caretaker is a sweetheart who aims to please and everything you might need is within walking distance. The crashing waves rake the beach a block away where you can observe the magnitude of nature's beauty, a fully stocked miniature grocoery store is a few steps away, as are several nice restaurants . I stayed in the perfect room tucked in the back, away from other renters with superior air conditioning, outstanding cleaniless and the softest sheets on the planet, and yes, I've stayed in a multitude of extraordinary five (5) star New York and European hotels. Being at Casa Azul was a dream, the plunge pool and I became fast friends, the veranda is paired with suitable outdoor furniture, plenty of shade, umbrellas and plenty of sun, beautiful, mature tropical plants abound...Well maintained and comfy I felt as though I literally had the place all to myself at the height of their winter season no less! My favorite place on the property was right outside my door, sitting in a chair with my feet up on another reading a great book and sipping coffee by day and beer by night. I highly reccomend this sweet gem of a place nestled among the locals!

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This is a great place, the room was clean and just the right size for us. The pool was close and we were in it everyday. It is located in a nice area away from all the tourist. Close enough to town to walk and we did many times. We rented a golf cart one day, but we enjoyed the walk. Lori and Jim are the best people and will help you whenever you need. You just have to ask. We loved Cujio and Fang. We felt so comfortable and at home there , we can hardly wait to come back. Oh Jim I promise to ask you before I check with others. Lol😃

Casa azul not as hoped.

  • 2 of 5

We stayed at Casa azul in May 2016 for several days. I had read all the reviews and it looked great especially for the price. The location is fine it's about mid way on the island in a local neighborhood which was fine. I have three things that I need to share. The unit was not clean. Meaning heavy layer of dust on curtains, in corners and ceiling fan. The second is you only get two towels every three days which might be ok but the beach and showering twice a day not good. The third is the bed - hard as a rock and the sheets smelled.

I have used vrbo for over 10 years several times a year and this is the first place that a rental has not met my expectations. I am not hard to please- really clean, towels and good bed. The dishes, silverware coffee pot all needed a good cleaning.

We rented a golf cart in town and it was perfect. You do need either a scooter or. Golf cart.

They did have over 200 tv channels and free wifi.

My hope is that Jim and Lori will make a few changes because this place could be great!!

Owner's Response: Karen, I feel extremely bad that you were not happy but you stayed here for your whole 5 nights and never said a word to us that you were unhappy about anything. That is very disappointing because we are always very quick to remedy any problems that may arise. Your mattress was a 2 month old Sealy, yes it was firm because that is what most people prefer. If you would have told me you were not happy I would have swapped it out. It is plainly posted that you were to receive 2 clean towels every 3rd day but as some do, they request a little extra and get extras. No we do not furnish beach towels, even the big expensive AC places charge extra for them as the laundry is very expensive. As far as the sheets smelling, that is a big problem here on this humid island and if you recall you came to me on the first night and mentioned it to me and received 2 different pillow cases on the spot. As far as the dusty curtains and fans, I apologize and the fans were cleaned and the curtains were washed yesterday. Also the dishes and silverware were all rewashed but it would help if the guests would not check out leaving dirty dishes on the counter. We will truly try and do better and hope that you may return as we do have many good qualities.

Returnees from Oshkosh Wisconsin

  • 5 of 5

Rodney and I have stayed at Casa Azul with Lori and Jim three or four times now. They and Isla has won our hearts and soul. Got a question of where to go or some place to try? Ask Lori and Jim. We enjoyed spending his birthday with him this year. We were there for two weeks this time and would have stayed longer but for appointments in the states. The local folks are the best folks too. We tried the laudress this time for a couple items and were not disappointed. Felt safe day or night. Place is clean and comfortable... Lori and Jim made sure of that.. And Shelley. Ate as much salsa as I wanted at the eaterys...Especially liked Rubens , Mangos, Mira Mars. Actually made a couple new friends this time. Very laid back and took our golf cart most times. I miss it terribly. We highly recommend Casa Azul. We missed the rooster in the morning tho!!!!! Think someone ate Thanks loads Jim and Lori and Cujoe...And Fang!!!!!

Exceptional Hospitality

  • 4 of 5

We stayed one week with Jim, Lori and Cujo at Casa Azul and enjoyed it very much, they greeted us with a warm smile and a cold beer. This is not a luxury hotel, but it is clean and well furnished in a great location. The dipping pool was the perfect way to end the was cool and shaded. Mango Café, Caribbean Brisas and Bahama Mama are just a block or so away. Get out and enjoy the local culture, you won't regret it! Thanks Jim and Lori for a great stay.

Everything you need.

  • 4 of 5

We just returned from a week of stay at Casa Azul. It was perfect for our needs. Clean & comfortable and you can't beat the price. If you're looking for luxury this is not the place. However, if you are looking for an economical place to lay your sombrero while on the island this is the place. The furnishings are old but the suite has everything needed. There are several restaurants within a 5 minute walking distance. Locals always have a friendly smile and greeting as you walk by. We chose to walk to Playa Norte every day and it took about an hour. We had a lower suite at the back of the building which was very quiet for sleeping. I would definitely stay here again.
