|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
This property is a clean, quiet, affordable place to stay with many of the same amenities as the more expensive places. It is located in a quaint Mexican neighborhood a short distance to the south of the main north village. You will find it to be a nice retreat after a long day of shopping, swimming and just plain relaxing. Close local eating places, bars and the large grocery store.

My wife Lori and I have been visiting the island every winter since 1980. When we decided it was where we wanted to be, we started constructing Casa Azul a little at a time until it was finally finished in 2008. We are striving to keep it reasonable so anyone can afford to vacation on this lovely island as we have for so many years.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 1996
We purchased the property and built the vacation rental in this location because of the sea view, while still being somewhat shielded from the effects of storms and the erosion caused by waterfront property.
Only a short distance from the main village, a quiet neighborhood with a local flare
This is a great place, the room was clean and just the right size for us. The pool was close and we were in it everyday. It is located in a nice area away from all the tourist. Close enough to town to walk and we did many times. We rented a golf cart one day, but we enjoyed the walk. Lori and Jim are the best people and will help you whenever you need. You just have to ask. We loved Cujio and Fang. We felt so comfortable and at home there , we can hardly wait to come back. Oh Jim I promise to ask you before I check with others. Lol😃
We stayed at Casa azul in May 2016 for several days. I had read all the reviews and it looked great especially for the price. The location is fine it's about mid way on the island in a local neighborhood which was fine. I have three things that I need to share. The unit was not clean. Meaning heavy layer of dust on curtains, in corners and ceiling fan. The second is you only get two towels every three days which might be ok but the beach and showering twice a day not good. The third is the bed - hard as a rock and the sheets smelled.
I have used vrbo for over 10 years several times a year and this is the first place that a rental has not met my expectations. I am not hard to please- really clean, towels and good bed. The dishes, silverware coffee pot all needed a good cleaning.
We rented a golf cart in town and it was perfect. You do need either a scooter or. Golf cart.
They did have over 200 tv channels and free wifi.
My hope is that Jim and Lori will make a few changes because this place could be great!!
Rodney and I have stayed at Casa Azul with Lori and Jim three or four times now. They and Isla has won our hearts and soul. Got a question of where to go or some place to try? Ask Lori and Jim. We enjoyed spending his birthday with him this year. We were there for two weeks this time and would have stayed longer but for appointments in the states. The local folks are the best folks too. We tried the laudress this time for a couple items and were not disappointed. Felt safe day or night. Place is clean and comfortable... Lori and Jim made sure of that.. And Shelley. Ate as much salsa as I wanted at the eaterys...Especially liked Rubens , Mangos, Mira Mars. Actually made a couple new friends this time. Very laid back and took our golf cart most times. I miss it terribly. We highly recommend Casa Azul. We missed the rooster in the morning tho!!!!! Think someone ate it..lol Thanks loads Jim and Lori and Cujoe...And Fang!!!!!
We stayed one week with Jim, Lori and Cujo at Casa Azul and enjoyed it very much, they greeted us with a warm smile and a cold beer. This is not a luxury hotel, but it is clean and well furnished in a great location. The dipping pool was the perfect way to end the day..it was cool and shaded. Mango Café, Caribbean Brisas and Bahama Mama are just a block or so away. Get out and enjoy the local culture, you won't regret it! Thanks Jim and Lori for a great stay.
We just returned from a week of stay at Casa Azul. It was perfect for our needs. Clean & comfortable and you can't beat the price. If you're looking for luxury this is not the place. However, if you are looking for an economical place to lay your sombrero while on the island this is the place. The furnishings are old but the suite has everything needed. There are several restaurants within a 5 minute walking distance. Locals always have a friendly smile and greeting as you walk by. We chose to walk to Playa Norte every day and it took about an hour. We had a lower suite at the back of the building which was very quiet for sleeping. I would definitely stay here again.
My husband and I spent a week at Casa Azul in August, and although I must confess that we were a tiny bit apprehensive about the property prior to arrival, we trusted the many excellent reviews and felt that we really wanted to try a slice of "local" Mexican life, rather than the big resort experience. We are so glad that we chose this property! Unfortunately, Jim and Lori were in the States during our stay, but had left the property in the capable hands of their manager, Chely. She was absolutely lovely, and despite a definite language barrier, we managed to communicate and she was so helpful when needed. We also didn't experience the "social" side of staying at Casa Azul, as the only other 2 guests there left about 2 days into our holiday, and we had the place to ourselves. All of this said, the apartment was clean, comfortable, with good AC, good internet, water provided, towels changed every 2 days. We absolutely loved being in a local neighbourhood, and in fact, aside from a couple of shopping trips into downtown Isla Mujeres, avoided the crowds and touristy feel of that area altogether. We rented a golf cart, which was great for zipping around the island, found a great little stretch of beach 5 minutes away that the locals seemed to favour, and never once bothered with the crowded Playa Norte. There were great restaurants nearby that we happily dined at (Caribbean Brisas for a nice dinner, and a great breakfast, Mango Café for awesome breakfasts, and a little tiny eatery that was constantly busy with locals where we had a great torta for breakfast one morning). We loved seeing the bicycles going by constantly selling their wares, experienced a parade down 'our' street one evening for the Virgin, never, ever felt unsafe and loved watching the locals going about their lives. The splash pool on the roof was just steps from our unit, and we had a dip each day, though in August, must confess that the water was quite warm! But we enjoyed having our coffee and tequila nightly on the rooftop. We had come to Isla during August to snorkel with the whale sharks (which was magical), but aside from that, loved the experience of living in a local neighbourhood. If you are looking for the Hilton, or the Ritz, this is not the place for you. But if you want to really experience a little of the real Mexico, please don't hesitate to try Casa Azul. It is comfortable, clean, fabulous value for the money, and we would happily recommend it to anyone.
