Albert and Linda Holt moved to the Big Island after deciding they needed something to do after working in Silicon Valley for the past 30 years. A Kona Coffee farm seemed to be just the ticket. Having had vacation rentals in Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas they were excited about being able to share the Kona Coffee farming experience, and the Big Island Hawaii experience with others, so they built a guest residence just for that purpose. Pictured here with the very first roasted and bagged coffee from our first year (2007) crop.
Albert Holt purchased this farmhouse in 2006
Being away from the resorts and tourist hustle and bustle, yet close enough to everything in order to be able to experience the true Hawaii and Aloha.
Panoramic ocean views, 1400 feet above sea level where the air is clean and cool, wild turkeys and chickens, and the occasional pig wandering the property, night time nature sounds, calm no traffic lifestyle and plenty of property to stretch out in.
Al’s Kona Coffee House was a serene and beautiful “away from it all” destination and we loved just being there. Turkeys, mangos, papaya, oranges and grapefruit all around. Not to mention being right in the middle of a real Kona coffee plantation. The view of Kona is fantastic (especially at night).
It is off the beaten path so if you want bell hops and valet parking this isn’t your place (perhaps the Ritz Carlton?). If you want a memorable and authentic Big island experience, it is. The facility has everything you need and the outside kitchen/dining area adds to the ‘away from it all’ charm.
Two thumbs up!
We enjoyed the seclusion and comfort of this well maintained guest house
Beautiful apartment with gorgeous views and wonderful high ceilings and large sliding glass doors. Definitely print out the directions and use maps app if you're trying to find this for the first time at night. That was challenging! No grocery stores super close so stock up before you arrive if you get in late. Well kept and super quiet location. Great for relaxation and getting away from tourist crowds.
Lovely location, close to nearby cafes and restaurants. Great for a couple who are looking to relax. Enjoyed the fruit trees and being a walk away from UCC coffee farm. Would love to return!
This place is quiet and lovely, but only about 15 minutes from Kona. The land is very steep but worth the walk! The place was very nice and the king bed so comfortable. It was so relaxing watching the sunset every night from the porch. It was a bit short of supplies but the owner took care of that right away. We would definitely stay there again!
While it's taken me months to get around to reviewing, I think daily of our wonderful extended stay this winter in Al's guest residence. Waking to the sounds of the birds each morning, cooking meals outdoors, and gazing out at the ocean view are forever etched in my memory. The unit is well-equipped, with a very nice bathroom, comfortable bed, and indoor bar area for the option of light food prep inside. I have never felt as peaceful and close to nature as I did this winter staying in this home, yet it had all the modern conveniences. The location, just outside the artist town of Holualoa, is one of the truly special places in Hawaii, and staying here allowed myself and my husband (and our little dog) to experience the area and relax. I highly recommend this hidden gem.
