About sherri mansell
Larry and Sherri live in south Florida with 4 children ages 12 to 25. Their parents live in NC and Georgia, and the family travels to western caroloinas as much as possible. They love the outdoor hiking, boating and many other activities.
sherri mansell purchased this Cabin in 2011
Why sherri mansell chose Black Mountain
We wanted to be close to Asheville, a city with an airport, university and culture events, and also close to both parents in Geogia and NC. We love the quaint town of Black Mtn with great restaurants.
What makes this Cabin unique
Biggest benefit is being only 10 minutes to town for food/gas/etc...and 20 minutes to the city of Asheville, BUT having a peaceful property with beautiful views and feeling like we are away from it all!!!

We had a fantastic time at Highrock Retreat. The house is great, especially the basement/game room/wine cellar. I dropped one star for the location only because the road is fairly rough up the mountain and it does take some time to negotiate, especially in the dark. Because of that it made us reconsider going down into town for meals and drinks. But the trade-off for that is the great view and the peaceful isolation.
We had a great time!
We stayed here for 3 nights. Beautiful house! We will definitely come back!
Perfect house for a family vacation.
This cabin is big and gorgeous and on a huge beautiful property and fully equipped for rainy days if you have them, like we did. We had everything we needed to cook meals too. Beds were super cozy. The deck was soo nice to relax on at all times of the day. We would definitely look to book this cabin again in the future. Be prepared for the lengthy and bumpy dirt roads to the cabin. You drive them for about 10 mins.
We are glad to hear that you would definitely book this cabin again. We welcome you back anytime! There is a 1.5 mile gravel road with a speed limit of 15 mph ( 5-7 minutes). This road gets graded regularly but does sometimes develop potholes after heavy rain. It is easily traveled with 2 wheel drive vehicles and beats the city traffic! Of course the paradise you reach is worth the trip!
Beautiful Black Mountain Cabin
My wife, adult daughter, and Lab really enjoyed our stay in this beautiful house/cabin. The house was way more than we needed for our small group. It would be perfect for much larger families or couples. Each bedroom had its own bath. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook in a couple of meals. The outside deck was especially nice with two covered porches, a Weber grill, comfy rocking chairs, and huge hot tub. The lower level, which we did not really use had plenty of adult toys for evenings or rainy days. Each floor had its own zoned heating/A/C control, which was terrific for us. A five star property, with the exception being the drive up and down the mountain to reach Hwy 9. Even though we have an all wheel drive Suburu, it was a rugged trip each way. (It may be that we are not accustomed to vacationing in the mountains.) All in all, a wonderful trip. The owners are definitely proud of their home, and it shows.
Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed the mountain property with all the comforts of home. Please note the 1.5 mile gravel road to the property is typical in the mountains. Two wheel drive vehicles are perfectly acceptable on the road to the mountain paradise. Four wheel drive is only required in Dec - Feb in case of snow. Roads are graded regularly but weather conditions will create occasional pot holes. Beats the city traffic!
We enjoyed our stay at Highrock. The house was an absolute gem, so many things to do right at the cabin. Clean and every amenity you need is at your fingertips. Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us!
Hope your visit to see family in Asheville created memorable times for you. We welcome you as guests again anytime. Thank you,
