One of a Kind - Live Like a Pope

Bedrooms 3
Space 2,600 sq. ft.
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Villa, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

To live a day in the life of a 16th Century Cardinal (Pope Sisto V), you would have to travel in a time machine. Luckily, Navona Garden Suites offers the next best thing- a stay in the original apartment of Cardinal Felice Peretti, who later became Pope Sisto V, the 227th pope of the Roman Catholic Church. From 1585 - 1590 he accomplished more than many other longer papacies in just 5 years time.

With a name like 'Papa Peretti' as the Romans called him, one would imagine a ruler of warmth and affection; much to the contrary, Peretti was a strict sovereign who ruled Rome with an iron fist in a velvet glove. Through his style of absolute monarchy, he revitalized Rome with the rebuilding of the aqueducts and roads. He also secured the city state by overseeing a mass execution of criminals and prisoners when first elected Pope, giving him a tough reputation.

You and your guests will enjoy the original living quarters of an authentic 16th-century interior of a Baroque noble palace located on Via Del Governo Vecchio (previously known as Via Papalis, street of the Popes), which is famous today not only for the Papal residences but also traditionally known for its cobble-stoned streets lined with artisan workshops that date back centuries.

To fully experience this beautiful 16th century neighborhood you can go shopping for the freshest food daily in Campo Di Fiori, schedule a cooking lesson with our private chef in Classic Italian Cuisine, a wine and cheese tasting with our certified sommelier, or just relax and enjoy this unique palace of a 16th century cardinal.

A Six Star experience

  • 5 of 5

This is a stunning property and we love it immediately when we opened the door. Like the other reviewers comments, the place is beautifully decorated, comfortable and homely. This property has a long history and yet it is still very well maintained. We were blown away by the grandeur of the living room when we stepped in.

We were so happy when we knew there's daily maid cleaning service and the maid will wash our laundry at a reasonable charge. Our rooms were kept clean and fresh linens provided each day thanks to the nice cleaning lady.

Another concierge Leonardo is a nice young man who helped us carried heavy luggages up the elegant stairs that lead to the apartment. And he gave us a good tour of the place upon our arrival.

Our main concierge Anne is the best concierge I ever met. I have stayed in 6 stars and expensive hotels around the world and Anne's service is well above these top notch hotels. She is very very helpful, attentive and courteous. She has effectively helped us with various requests and gave us good suggestions on almost anything.

The property is close to restaurants, super market and taxi stand so it's very convenient. The only thing we wish could happen and go away is the noise from the restaurants downstairs but this is the trade off for convenience.

Last but not the least is Loredana, the owner, she has been very helpful from the very beginning when I contacted her to book the place till the end.

I have shown our photos of the place to friends and families and their jaws just dropped and marvelled at the beauty of the apartment. We are very fortunate to have found this place and stayed there for 8 nights.

I would highly recommend my friends, family and others to stay here if they come to Rome. We certainly will when we visit next time.

Deserves Six Stars!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this apartment Sept 2016 and I can't say enough about it. It is spectacularly appointed, the location can't be beat, and the lovely woman running it is extremely responsive and professional. The apartment is a half block from one of Rome's greatest places - the Piazza Navona. It is within a 3 minute walk of wonderful restaurants, gelateria and shops. 10 minutes to world class historic sites like the Pantheon and Spanish Steps. The apartment itself oozes with history and elegance. And it's quiet at night due to the very thick walls. There is a concierge and assistant who are great. (They even responded to a request we had at midnight!!!). We have stayed at a number of high end VRBO residences around the world and If you want to feel like a king or queen and get the most out of your visit to Rome, stay here. Look no further!!

Outstanding stay

  • 5 of 5

Our family of four with two teenagers stayed for over a week at this amazing property. It is located in a trendy piazza with lots of restaurants within walking distance. We ate nearby every night we were there except for an evening that we took a cab to the Hard Rock Cafe for some hamburgers and fries after all that pizza and pasta! The property is extremely clean, updated with modern amenities, yet you feel the old world historic charm in the building and decor. We absolutely loved our stay and would book again if we were coming to Rome. The cab stand is a short walk away to go to some of the major sightseeing places. The restaurants below party until 2 am, but the bedrooms are situated so it didn't bother our sleep, plus we sleep with white noise machines. There is a small market nearby as well as multiple gelato places - we ate at the Frigidarium every evening for a late dessert!

Just outstanding

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I arrived at the location and the concierge and staff were extremely helpful. They did everything necessary to make our stay in Rome wonderful. The location near Piazza Navona was within walking distance of all of the major sightseeing locations. We never took a cab in Rome. While close to the tourist locations, the accommodations were in an area that felt more local with many small shops and restaurants. We ate at six different excellent restaurants within a block of the Papal Suites and it was a short walk to Campo de Fiori marketplace. You will not be able to find a better place or a better location than Papal Suites in Rome and the friendly staff are exceptional. It was a wonderful experience.

One of Rome's Hidden Gems

  • 5 of 5

My wife and myself have had the pleasure of staying here before, this time we brought 12 friends. They were amazed!!! From the check in, to a short tour of the immediate area, to the rooms, it was fantastic. Our concierge and the staff were so helpful, maid services kept the suite spotless.

You can't get much better than being in the centre of Rome, with Piazza Navona being your back yard. We truly felt like royalty staying in the Papal Suites (there were 6 of us), the rest stayed across the street in the Navona Garden Suites. You could feel the history seeping through the walls, what a compliment to the rest of the trip. There was no shortage of anything from the great kitchen to the wonderful dinning table and even the living area.

All of us can't wait to visit again.

What More Could Be Said!

  • 5 of 5

This is clearly one of the most spectacular properties in Rome. It was painstakingly restored and the love and devotion to that extensive project is evident in every aspect of the property. The location could not be better and the staff available during the rental is first rate. Although I know which bedroom I would choose, no one would be disappointed in any of the three rooms.

It is highly unlikely that a finer property and better location in Rome can be found.
