Susan Shay purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Susan Shay chose Park City area

This is a unique property and is not for everyone. If you want to be in 'town' where the action is.....Not for You..

It is approximately 11 miles outside downtown Park City (15 minutes drive). You will need a 4 wheel drive vehicle as it is at the end of a mountain road that gets a lot of snow.

It is a local destination for backcountry skiers..literally...they park 50 yards up the road as there is approx 1000 vertical feet of bowl can ski from the front door and connect to miles of trails.

lots of moose, deer, etc...bear in the summer are not uncommon visitors though elusive.

snow shoes are provided and encouraged....

it is one of very few 'alpine-forest' experiences in the Park City area and a hot tub on the back deck while it is snowing will be a memorable experience...

What makes this cabin unique

within 15 minutes of all Park City Resorts.

within 40 minutes of Alta, Snowbird, Brighton, Solitude resorts (15 minutes closer than Park City location)

25 minutes from the airport

Alone in the woods with special people in a cabin '2nd to none' for charm and creativity all rebuilt and designed by the owners...

Cozy cabin with secluded feeling

  • 5 of 5

Walk out the front door to geat hikes and back country skiing. Or, relax in the hot tub on back porch.

Secluded, casual log cabin living was a nice change from the pace of Chicago. Our high school age children loved the old record player with the 60's and 70's tunes, never turned on the tv all week.

10-15 minutes from canyons/park city ski resort, grocery etc. 15 min to down town park city. About 40 min to Alta ski.

Alan was very responsive whenever we had questions.

Good choice if you want quiet and don't mind driving a touch to get places (which we knew up front and were fine with).

Cabin on the Summit

  • 5 of 5

Susan Shay and Alan Johnson were very fast to respond to all questions from the first day I sent in our request. We have visited the Park City area for years but always stayed "in Town". However, we always found ourselves driving to Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood canyon for the great snow. So this cabin hidden on top of a mountain in the woods with the Elk and other wildlife was a perfect spot for us. Spending a week in the area this cabin was only 1/2 hour from the airport and only 15-20 min tops to downtown Park city and Deer Valley. Oh and the parking in Park City has become much better because we were in town many late nights.

The cabin was exactly what is described and even better in person. The cabin has its own personality. Allen met us at the exit off I80 and drove lead us to the cabin and gave me a quick history of the place. Allen walked us through and showed us all the amenities. One bedroom has many of the trophies and medals from US National team competitions Allen coached. The message chair overlooking the mountains was one of my favorite spots with a cup of coffee in the mornings after a long day of skiing. Also with the cabin were sets of snow shoes. There is a great hike on the summit right from the cabin which is the last cabin on a dead end. Fire wood provided for the fireplace and the spa was just the right temperature. All towels and linens were as comfortable as a five star hotel. All condiments were in place.

We were lucky to have multiple mornings of fresh snow. The nice thing about the road is at 7 AM sharp a guy would scrap the roads. Not only that while we were gone someone would come and sweep the decks and shovel the drive way so you would come home to a clean entrance...nice touch. They would even move the trash to the street for pick up.

All in all, I have already recommended the cabin to friends. Its a larger than it looks cabin. Great character not the pre fab cabins being thrown together this is the real deal. Major shopping and grocery stores less than ten minutes. One of the best breakfasts in the area in just down the hill. To add, the most fun we always have is at the Gorgoza Park City Tubing 5 min down the hill from the cabin. So do not hesitate and lose your chance to stay at one of the best properties in the area. I think we will go for the summer. Enjoy!

The perfect place to stay near Park City

  • 5 of 5

I can't compliment Alan enough on the amazing job he did remodeling this beautiful cabin. Not only does the place have a ton of character, the amenities and overall layout made our group of 8 feel comfortable and at home. Alan was a great host and it was such a pleasure staying there for 4 nights and skiing at the Canyons just around the corner (15 min tops). Our whole group of skiers/boarders from all over the US agreed that we need to stay there again if we plan another trip to Utah. The hot tub was definitely a highlight, though don't expect to fit more than 3 or 4 people in there. The trails just up the road were great for walking our dog and I know he thoroughly enjoyed his stay too. We even took an Uber into town one night to enjoy the nightlife and the driver had no trouble finding the place. Don't second guess yourself, book this place now!

Perfect mountain cabin!

  • 5 of 5

Every year we plan a ski trip with our friends and we come from all across the country. This year we decided on Park City. When looking on VRBO/HomeAway, we fell in love with the pictures of Alan and Susan's place and decided that was the place we wanted to rent. When we arrived, we were welcomed by Alan who showed us how to get to the house and gave us a tour. The house has so many interesting and cool features, along with all kinds of antiques and decorations. It is obvious that Susan and Alan love the house and put a lot of time and energy into everything from decorations to the stairs and railings. It really is a very cool place to stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at their rental and if we ever plan on going back to Park City for a ski weekend, we'll definitely be renting their place again. Thank you Alan and Susan for allowing us to rent your amazing place! :)
