Great Home, Great Stay

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a great time during our weekend stay at this beautiful home. There were 11 of us but there was plenty of room. The owner was friendly and helpful. Over just a few emails, I was able to know what supplies we needed to bring and what supplies were already at the house. The house is very convenient to Mt. Sunapee and the highway.

Cleaning the house at the end of our stay could not have been easier. There is a washer and dryer, a vaccum, and cleaning supplies available. We cleaned up any mess we made and I received the cleaning deposit back without a problem.

We will definitely be staying here again.

beware of stay

  • 3 of 5

I have rented vacation homes many many times before and this was by far the most complicated and unpleasant stay. From communication with the owner, to trying to rent the place, to getting back my safety deposit. Although there were some dirty pots in the kitchen and dirty sheets on a few beds at my arrival, and I had left the place clean and tidy, the owner did not give me back the deposit. You were expected to clean, but yet there were inadequate cleaning supplies. For the large amount of money your going to spend, be prepared to spend a good amount of your precious vacation time cleaning the house from top to bottom.

Although we had cars with winter tires on them, we had a really hard time getting up the steep driveway since there was a lot of snow covering it. We had to back all the way out into the main busy road, to get a running start to get up to the driveway. The house itself is comfortable and nice but very small living room hang out space. The kitchen doesn't have many options for cooking supplies. It helped there were 3 bathrooms and it was also convenient to Mt Sunapee.

Owner's Response: We try to please everyone. Our process is simple, structured and organized. None of these issues were brought to my attention during their stay. I am available 24 hours a day for any issues that may need to be addressed. We verify that the house is clean and ready for a pleasant stay before any arrivals. We could have missed a pot that may have been put away without the proper cleaning. We try to check every item. The sheets were all changed before their arrival. There are about a dozen different kinds of cleaning supplies under the kitchen sink. It does not require a lot of time to clean the house if everyone shares in the responsibility. I have been told that the cleaning can be accomplished rather quickly with everyone pitching in. Our snow removal and sanding is done whenever needed and in a timely fashion. It is done by a local contractor that lives in the neighborhood. He constantly monitors the property and is instructed to keep the driveway plowed and sanded thoroughly. He does an outstanding job considering all of the storms we get. We have basic cooking supplies in the cabinets. I address any questions and concerns as soon as I am asked. Our pricing is based on the idea that you can save the cleaning cost if you are willing to invest some time. If you do not want to clean the house then you are not entitled to get the nominal fee back.

The Sunapee New Hampshire Ski House

  • 3 of 5

The price seemed reasonable to get my New England family together for New Year’s Eve and week before. The house was small with odd sleeping arrangements but worked out fairly well. We had to do a bit of cleaning when arriving especially fridge and kitchen floor was dirty. Many kitchen items were missing so I went out and bought some (large cook pot, cork screw etc). The TV had no cable or DVD as advertised. We are from far away (Alaska) so could not take the untouched food or new supplies with us. We gave a lot away but left some unused items. We cleaned the entire house the last day, did all of the laundry, remade all of the beds and left it in better condition than when we got there. After spending the entire day cleaning we had to dash to Logan Airport to catch out flight. The land lord seemed so nice when speaking to him took advantage of us and never returned the large damage deposit we gave him!! My husband and I are working medical professionals (MD, NP) and have rented many ski houses over the years and have never NOT gotten the deposit back........ Watch out if you rent this one!!

Owner's Response: Our sleeping arrangements are well documented on the website and work out well for most. We try our best to monitor our inventory. Sometimes guests forget to put things back where they belong, or on occasion forget to put them back at all ! We have cable TV and a DVD player as advertised. I had to pay for the unauthorized movies that were rented from the Comcast cable on demand channels! I was surprised to see that they arrived a day earlier than they had paid for. Especially with out asking for permission first. I no longer give out the access code until an hour before arrival. The "untouched food" was opened and half used. Such items as, bags of wheat flour, open bags of chips, opened jars of condiments, etc.. I had to go through all of the cabinets and throw away all of this. It is inappropriate to leave half eaten items in the house, thinking that others would trust it's safety. I do not buy things at the supermarket that are half used and unsealed. I arrived as they were departing around their required check out time of 2 PM. Hardly "an entire day of cleaning" ! We work with everyone and attempt to service their needs. We do not mistreat anyone. I have learned a lot from these "guests" and have changed some procedures so these incidents will not be repeated.

Great Family Getaway Spot

  • 5 of 5

We had a fairly large group staying in one house and we had a great time. The house was centrally located and very easy to get to.Plenty of space for the 12 of us. We did notice that the ice maker in the freezer was not working and that the cable television lineup was not terribly great (my brother and nephews could not watch the Red Sox or the Little League World Series.) But all in all we had a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend this property. We love The Anchorage Restaurant and The Quack Shack in Sunapee Harbor.

Skier's Home a way from Home

  • 4 of 5

We had a very nice month staying in this rental property. The landlord was available and helpful when we had questions. Since it was in the winter, we were concerned about the snow plowing etc. This was no problem and we did have a few storms. We found the house very comfortable. The children loved the third floor "suite". Everything was clean and neat especially since it was so newly renovated. We didn't eat out but once and did enjoy the Salt Hill Pub close by.
