Our cabin was built on the northeastern bluff of Petit Jean Mountain and is 750 feet above the base. Two miles of farmland lie between our cabin and the Arkansas River, and a panoramic mountain rimmed view extends over farmland to the north for over 20 miles. Cloud formations are incredibly beautiful at times and the atmosphere on the bluff is aways comfortable and relaxing. At night the star viewing is amazing.
Our cabin is actually a 1400 square ft house with two levels. There are three covered porches; two of them overlook the valley to the north and one of those is screened in. All the rooms to the rear of the house open to their respective porches.
This is located in a quiet woodland setting near the middle of three acres on the bluff of the mountain.

We have been married over 32 years and love to explore. Kathy is an experienced RN and Ray is retired from Arkansas Nuclear One in Russellville, Arkansas. We are the proud parents of six children (two girls, four boys) and currently have two lovely granddaughters.
We are outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hiking, camping, water skiing, wild caving, and bicycling.
We enjoy volunteering and helping people when the opportunities arise.
Ray and /or Kathy Allen purchased this cabin in 2010
Property next to our cabin/house has been in our family for the past 50 years. This cabin was built around 1995 and recently became available to us. We purchased this cabin in lieu of building a separate structure.
I enjoy watching the slow designs the farm equipment makes as fields are cut on the farmlands far below us and listening to the far off calls of cattle lowing in the evening. Storm cells moving across the valley any time of day are captivating, and watching the occasional crop duster work the fields below is a real treat.
I also enjoy sitting on the back porch and watching for river boats pushing barges up and down the river. These boats light up the river at night as they slowly push their loads along.
I enjoy drifting off to sleep on the second story hammock on the back porch and feeling the breeze coming up the side of the mountain.
There are only a few cabins/houses built on the bluffs of this entire mountain top and I always enjoy the fact that this is one of them. There's adventure here, and I like that too.
My review is a little delayed but I still wanted to get it in. From the moment we pulled in the driveway we were in awe of this cabin. It is next to impossible to please 3 adult children, my husband and myself all with the same things (the grandson is still easy to please), but this cabin did it, everyone had a blast. It was very relaxing, we spent most of our time on the screened in porch overlooking the valley and playing cards. The welcome chalk board and all the little notes on how to work things and where to find things made us feel more like guests than renters. The cabin is well stocked, if you forgot to bring something it is quite possibly there. There are games and movies in the den, and a fire pit with plenty of chairs just a short walk down the trail. This was our anniversary weekend we wanted to spend with our kids. We went over to Mt. Nebo where we had got married to take family pictures. We will most likely stay again in the future and have already recommended this cabin to friends. The Allens are great hosts. Thank you again for such a wonderful weekend get away for our family.
For the family that wants a close, but quiet getaway. A place where you can connect with nature. With very great host. Then this is the spot. Our family enjoyed it very much as we went to the Petit Jean Mountain car show and swap meet. Close to the famous car museum, Mather Lodge with 5 star cooking at a terrific price. Out of this world scenic views. We would definitely recommend this cabin for your family getaway. But as a hint, be sure to reserve early so you don't lose out on the dream of your life.
Based on the photos posted online, our expectations for the cabin were quite high. The cabin (house) and setting far exceeded our expectations. The cabin was comfortable and the view from the back of the house overlooking the valley for miles was extraordinary. The notes on how to operate the technology in the home were quite helpful. The cabin was clean and had everything we could possibly need. We were within minutes of the park and meals at the lodge. Our two 16-year-old grandsons rated the cabin as "COOL!" and "NEAT!" We had quick responses to our contacts with the owners.
Allens Cabin was the perfect getaway for us and another couple. It was clean, roomy, private, well equipped and has a great view of the Arkansas River Valley. It is also very conveniently located to park attractions. We have stayed many times at the nice State Park Cabins but Allens Cabin was a real treat and will be our first choice when we return. Thanks Kathy and Ray
My family consisting of my wife, 2 daughters and 2 son-in-laws had a great time. Hiking was great and coming home to the cabin was great. We loved the cabin and enjoyed the screen porch. Very welcoming.
cabin well stocked, everything you need and more. Allen's very nice and helpful. If cooking meal for family allow extra time, stove very cute but small. recommend to anyone staying at Petit Jean.
Day trip canoeing available on rivers to north and west, hang gliding from Mount Nebo, day trip cliff diving and swimming at Greer's Ferry Lake near Heber Springs to north, winery tours in Altus, Historic bath houses in Hot Springs, beautiful hiking trails on Petit Jean and surrounding areas. Excellent ATV trail systems on Mt. Magazine to west and Moccasin Gap to northwest. For those interested in geocaching, the opportunities abound.
