Retreat in the Woods & Seattle, Too!

Bedrooms 3
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 2-6)

Our home sits on top of one of the 3 mountains that makeup the Issaquah Alps and is very private and serene yet we’re only 10 minutes from the town of Issaquah with everything you’d want and only 30 minutes from the heart of Seattle with its array of “life”. Sitting on the edge of the Pacific/Puget Sound, trips to the islands via ferry, Skiing (both downhill and x-country) only 30 minutes away, hiking everywhere and right on our hill, biking, boating…it’s endless as to outdoor pursuits in the Seattle area. Nightlife and culture abound in Seattle, Bellevue, and even Issaquah.

If you haven’t been to the Pacific Northwest to enjoy the beauty we offer, you should come visit.

Our home is 2500 sq. ft., our family home since we built it new so obviously we love it! We have large decks for seating, landscaped yards, we're on the edge of the forest and our resident raccoon may even pay you a visit on his way back and forth to “work”. Deer often bed down out back or stop by for a visit. The configuration of our home is: Master bedroom, with private bath, Guest Bedroom (Queen Bed), Sleeping Loft with pull out double bed, newly remodeled bathroom is shared between loft & guest room, & a soaking tub with view into woods is perfect for after your hike. ½ bath for the downstairs. Our kitchen is set to COOK…both Chuck and I love to cook and we think it’s the best. It opens into our family room with gas fireplace and our dining room opens into our large living room with fireplace as well. Our home is 2 levels with sleeping upstairs. French doors lead from dining room to deck and from family room to deck. Enjoy 3 eating locations outside or walk across our bridge to the path in the woods.

About Jill Landback

Chuck and I have elected to travel widely during our retirement years and realized we're 'never' home. We wanted to share our home and space with folks looking to come to the Pacific Northwest. A day trip to Mount Rainier that you see from our hill or a quick run to Leavenworth that we do to ski or golf made us think that we are 'in the perfect location'. We live in a safe and secure area called HIGH VALLEY yet we can't see any homes & we feel like we live in the national park.

Jill Landback purchased this house in 1979

This was our first experience utilizing Home Away and was a bit skeptical about staying in another persons home. But we are military and have to take every opportunity to save money and be able to travel when we are allowed. We looked at several options on the Home Away site and the one we stayed in was the closest to my hubby's family. We not only got a home for a week less than a hotel, but we had all of the comforts of home while "away" from home. The house was magazine perfect just like it looked on the site only better! The homeowners were so sweet that I feel like we have met a friend for life. Since our family is near Issaquah we will be using this home a lot as long as it is available. I can't think of a better alternative to being in your own home for the holidays. This was a life changing experience and Jill was AMAZING-She left a welcome gift for us and starting our vacation like a 5 star resort after a LONG day of travel, it was NICE!!!! We will recommend this house and travel option to everyone we know. Thank you again-The Bartlett's

Owner's Response: Dear Bartlett family, Thank you so much for the wonderful things you said about us and about our home. You know you will be welcome back anytime in the future so just give us a call! You guys left the house so lovely that I thought you'd actually hired a cleaning service to come in. Shame On you… You were supposed to be on your holiday. We send you guys are very best wishes for 2017 year! I think our country is in safe hands with the two of you out there in our military service! Jill & Chuck

Great place for a family to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at 'Retreat in the Woods'. We were at a family wedding so didn't spend a lot of time in the house but it was great to have a spacious place to R&R after all the functions! The house is very comfortable and the the back yard is beautiful! You definitely need a car, would be my only advice!

The property was in the woods steep driveway but very country

Kind of disappointed. There was laundry in the washer and dryer. One of the beds was not made. There was no place to hang our clothes no drawers open. There was food in the refrigerator. For some reason their television was put on pause so we did not have television to watch with our morning coffee. Not happy

Owner's Response: I am very sorry that you were disappointed in your stay at our home. I shared with you that we were out of the country when you contacted me & I was dependent on my cleaner to have everything ready for you. Communication obviously broke down as this is not my "usual" readiness. TV headache must have been forced "sleep mode" which was a first for me. Hopefully your reunion went more happily. Jill & Chuck

Amazing experience. This place is a sure bet!

  • 5 of 5

I needed an extra house close by to host relatives for Thanksgiving. Jill was a pleasure to work with and she was quick to respond to all my questions, even a few extra needs. The house is AMAZING. Beautiful setting inside and out. The kitchen is top notch. The house is clean and organized. All the beds are comfortable. There's plenty of room for games in one area, quiet reading in another, and sports or movies on the TV. Jill and Chuck have great instructions and everything is easy to find. I would not hesitate to stay here!

Owner's Response: Kasi, thank you so much for this. Your family was the best rental experience we've had for many reasons! You were lovely to meet in person...and you left it as IF you really hadn't been here...and that was such a treat to come home to discover. Now, happiest of holidays to you!! Cheers! Jill and Chuck

Quiet, Beautiful, Comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed a few days for our son's wedding nearby. The house was inviting, roomy, comfortable, clean, and VERY relaxing inside and out, and it had everything we needed. The outside was beautiful enough to have held the wedding there (spent over an hour just strolling around and enjoying the flowers and other plants). We were able to fit in a hike in Squawk Mtn. State Park during our busy weekend, since it was just a couple minutes away. We had the rehearsal dinner at Tutta Bella Neapolitan Pizzeria in Issaquah - outstanding! We stayed for a few days and wish we could have stayed longer. The hosts were generous with the use of their home, organized, and we were very blessed. I would recommend this home to anyone.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Marilee and Stuart. This was a special response as our neighbors told us they heard banjo music...and you were practicing for the singing at the wedding. How wonderful that all turned out to be and so happy to have been a part of that. Best to all, Jill and Chuck

Beautiful home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home during our two week visit to Seattle. The house is private and secure, with the most amazing garden. Jill and Chuck left detailed instructions and their communication with us prior to our visit was excellent. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen was stocked with everything that was needed. We had family dinners on the outside deck overlooking the stunning garden. We would highly recommend this home to fellow travellers.
