Your host, Julie , was raised on the James Ranch in Durango, CO, left the paradise of the Animas Valley for six years to travel and complete a degree at Colorado College in Colorado Springs. John, a native of SW Colorado and a geologist with a degree from Fort Lewis College came into her life soon after arriving back to Durango. They quickly realized The James Ranch and the wholesome community of Durango was the place for them to live and raise a family. All three of their boys are very interested in staying in agriculture, with the eldest son, back to work the ranch with his family.

Dear Julie and John,
Thank you so much for the amazing grace and warmth at the Place at James Ranch. We thoroughly appreciated the thought you put into every detail, down to the coffee, eggs and half and half.
We had epic ski days and cozy evenings as a family, and it always felt like a home away from home here. We hope to return!
This is a favorite place of ours. We return at least once a year. The view alone is enough to warrant 5 stars but add in the amazing owners and the personal touches they add and you're at 5+ stars! The house is immaculate upon arrival and stocked perfectly. Because it's on a working ranch, you are immersed in the sights and sounds of nature. This place is perfect for couples. It's halfway between town and Purgatory Ski Resort and 5 min from Trimble Hot Spings. The Harvest Grill ( belonging to James Ranch) and Honeyville are a quick 10 min walk away. The food at the grill is out of this world and you can purchase cheese, meat, chili, veggies, and ice cream at the shop next to the grill. I cannot recommend this place enough. You won't regret your stay.
What a gem! We were searching for a quiet spot, away from the hustle and bustle, but not too far away from town. A Place at James Ranch was the perfect fit! Julie's little oasis is as beautiful as the pictures suggest. Rustic but luxurious - modern but old fashion. We felt at home from the moment we walked in. The little extras were awesome - eggs, half and half and the coffee, too. We cooked every day and the kitchen had everything we needed for really fantastic meals. Julie is an incredible host, but we never felt crowded. The location is close enough to go into town easily and a good easy distance to the ski areas too. (we highly recommend the Durango Nordic Center for both snow shoeing and skiing.) We are both really looking forward to returning to see what summer in Durango has to offer!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at A Place at James Ranch. It was the perfect size for us, and the view of the mountains out the back window was more than spectacular. The shower was beautifully tiled and we really liked the two choices of shower heads. Most of all, though, we wanted to say that John and Julie were the best! Their warm welcome and extreme kindness made our time in Durango really special. We heartily recommend A Place at James Ranch!
We absolutely loved our stay at Julie's place at James Ranch. Definitely one of my favorite VRBO rentals ever. The cottage has an amazing valley view, is furnished beautifully and is stocked with everything you could possibly need. Farm-fresh eggs, coffee and half-and-half were such a thoughtful touch. Everyone slept very soundly in the super-comfortable bed and sleeper sofa. It is located perfectly between town and the slopes, where we also enjoyed skiing fresh powder under clear blue skies. Julie is a wonderful host, quick to respond to every inquiry. We look forward to another visit!
I am from Durango and adore the area. I wanted to bring my partner to see the area and I knew I wouldn't be able to find anything like staying on James Ranch. Julie's cottage is so cozy, clean, and romantic, and she really went above and beyond to make our visit comfortable. We were provided delicious eggs, coffee, and apples from their tree. The bed was so comfy! The views were amazing! The shower kicked butt! It felt so private and quiet, but Julie and her husband were available if we needed them. I could go on and on. Our expectations were exceeded and we were talking about our next trip before we even left!
FYI - We did not get a chance to grab a burger from James Ranch but they are the BEST. Make sure to go to their grill while you're there! Plus, you get to pet some goats while you eat your burger, if I remember correctly.
Go on a self-guided tour of the James Ranch, watch the cows being milked in the open air dairy barn, buy your organic, fresh food at the James Ranch Market, have lunch at the Harvest Grill and Greens and enjoy the spectacular views while dining, experience the complete ranch tour hosted by one of the members of the James Ranch.
