The train-line runs west to the coast with stops at the chic spa town of Montecatini Terme, (10 minutes away), and on to; Lucca, Pisa and Viareggio. Florence to the east is less than 30 minutes away and many “Pistoiesi” commute there to study at the University or work in the city.
The ski resort of Abetone lies to the north of Pistoia only 45 minutes away.
Pistoia, a hidden jewel in Tuscan’s crown, is a safe, beautiful city with attractions that cause it to describe itself as a “City of Art.” Pistoia is a tourist mixture of history, art, folk traditions, monuments, nature and gastronomic specialties. Everyday, there is a fruit and vegetable market in the Piazza Della Sala close to the Duomo Square, on Wednesday and Saturday mornings there is a large travelling market in the central Piazza and adjacent streets. Restaurants are numerous at prices more modest than those in Florence. Surrounded by beautiful countryside of hills, Pistoia has many monuments to visit and during your visit, there are plenty of attractive bars and restaurants for a pleasant interlude. Even more than Florence, Pistoia is a “walkable” city. From the train station you head directly north soon you enter the jewel of Pistoia, The Piazza del Duomo – clearly one of the most beautiful town centers in Tuscany. Nearby these Tuscany vacation rental you will find a number of sporting clubs with tennis courts, a thermal spa and pool, horse riding stables and golf courses. People interested in nightlife; will not remain disappointed because in the surroundings theatres, discotheques, cinema and night clubs can be found. There are many wine tours in the surrounding area, beyond that in Chiantishire, interesting for wine fans and many wine cellars are opened for the tastings.
We are two Canadian couples who rented both of these apartments in late April 2015 for six nights. It is difficult to come up with anything new to add to the reviews that have already been posted here. The apartments are exactly as shown and described in the listing (well equipped, nicely decorated and clean) and the location, right on the main commercial square in Pistoia, is unbeatable. (The square can be a bit too lively (although not at all rowdy) some nights but this is not a major issue and is only noticeable - and barely so at that - from the one bedroom apartment.) Tittii is a wonderful hostess; on arrival, she met us just as we drove into Pistoia and led us to the (free) parking area then took us and our bags in her van to the apartments and took us through everything we needed to know about the accommodations and about Pistoia itself, including a small tour of the area around the apartments. In addition she was available by phone during our stay in case of further questions. Pistoia is a great small city and excellent base from which to explore Tuscany. There are many very good restaurants and interesting small shops within easy walking distance from the apartments. We took the train to Florence (trust us, you don’t want to drive in or to Florence) one day and on other days drove to Siena, San Gimignano, Lucca, Pisa, Viareggio, Montecatini and La Spezia, where we caught the train to Cinque Terre. We would have no hesitation returning to this area of Tuscany, to Pistoia itself, and to these apartments.
We very much enjoyed our two week stay in Pistoia. Titi's apartments are very clean and well appointed. The location can't be beat - right off the main piazza. The train station is within walking distance. Pistoia is very centrally located with easy day trips to Florence, Lucca and Pisa. Rome and Venice are very accessible via high speed rail. There were few tourists and the Pistoian community is vibrant and very welcoming. Titti is no exception. She graciously picked us up from the train station and brought us to the apartment. She then took us out for an espresso and gave us a tour of Pistoia. She went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure we had everything we needed. Thank You Titti!!
Three of my friends and I recently had a wonderful trip to Italy and spent 3 nights in apartment Vittoria in Pistoia. It was WONDERFUL! The location is perfect plenty of restaurants and food shops. . It's central to Pistoia which is a great home base for seeing Tuscany - it's about 25 minutes via train out of Florence. Pistoia has much to offer but is still NOT a tourist mecca -wonderful restaurants (don't miss La Bottegia), great buildings, churches and history. A charming visitor center where the staff will be happy to help you. The apartment manager speaks English very well so making our plans was very easy and pleasant. The apartment is lovely, clean and the bedrooms are separated by the living room / kitchen area so there is privacy, too. Highly, highly recommended.
My 3 friends and I stayed in this apartment for several days and loved it! It is located on a piazza in the historic center minutes away from the Piazza del Duomo, Baptistry, numerous churches with outstanding works of art, interesting museums and many restaurants. The photos provided are an accurate reflection of the space and we loved coming "home" after a day of visiting friends and sightseeing. The apartment is spotless and comfortable. The WiFi is somewhat dependent on where you sit, but certainly very functional! The owner was very helpful and flexible as to our arrival. She was available to answer all of our questions, many of which were answered before we even asked. The Duomo is a "must" to visit, as is the Baptistry. Stroll around town and be surprised at finding unexpected treasures (outdoor fruit markets, the church of St. Andrea, that of the Madonna dell'Umilta', the Museum of Marino Marini). Enjoy dinner at La Bottegaia or buy cheese, salami, pate' and wine at Il Sapore di Bottegaia and bring it "home" and enjoy a leisurely lunch at the dining room table. Walk to the train station (15 minutes) and hop a train to Florence or Lucca. All within easy reach.
I can not say enough great things about Pistoia! I traveled to Tuscany with my husband and 8 year old son in July, 2013. We were not interested in seeing every hill town, but simply wanted to slow down and enjoy a traditional Italian community for a week; this hit the spot. It was so close to Florence; yet, felt a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. We stayed in Florence for two nights to see the main sights there, then traveled to Pistoia and slowed way down. Titti's apartment was perfect! It is right on the main piazza as advertised, no need for a car. We got up each morning, walked down the stairs to our choice of coffee bars and gathered supplies for breakfast at the produce market, bakery and butcher shop- all a stone throw away. The train station was less then a ten minute walk away, if you are inclined to do day trips to explore it couldn't be easier. Then a slow dinner in the historic town center to end the day. We stayed during July 25th, so were able to experience the annual Joust of the Bear Festival which my 8 year old absolutely LOVED!!! It was a wonderful experience, Titti was great help with my son (who decided to break his leg two weeks before our trip so was on crutches and required some extra help) and helping us reclaim our lost luggage from the airport!!! Despite these problems, we still couldn't have asked for a better trip.
This is a charming, immaculate, well-furnished apartment in the heart of the old town. The description and photos are accurate. Just steps from open-air markets, the Duomo, great cafes and restaurants. Very well maintained and beautiflly decorated, it overlooks a piazza that's fun to stroll, have a drink or shop. The owner was very helpful: she met us on the outskirts of Pistoia and guided us to parking lot, took us to the apartment, then personally gave us a walking tour of the old town; she couldn't have been more friendly and accomodating. Pistoia was an unexpected pleasure: a friendly, picturesque smaller town that you can use a base to travel to Lucca, Florence, Chianti country, Sienna, Pisa. We heartily recommend this property.
