The transformed house, recently renovated by renowned architect Bill Boehm, was featured in the Boston Globe Magazine.
Located in the Pondside area, it’s just a block from Jamaica Pond, which has walking paths, seasonal boats and fishing—part of the Olmsted Emerald Necklace. JP has excellent locally owned restaurants, and is less than 4 miles from the State House downtown.
Parking available, transit nearby. Easy access to museums, shopping, concerts, universities. Bring the whole family! Enjoy a reunion, visit local colleges, gather friends for special events. Or get friends together for feasting, talking, shopping. It’s beautiful and fun.
I've spent pretty much all my long adult life in Boston, active in local affairs and working with community based nonprofit organizations. As a lover of this city, I am proud and pleased to help others enjoy its many charms.
This house, renovated quite completely in 2004, is a wonderful base for me in the lovely Jamaica Plain neighborhood, and is fully accessible for wheelchair users. It is my own residence and I rent the house out when I travel, especially to visit my sons & grandson.
Lovely area, beautiful park down the street, Whole Foods and great Cuban food in walking distance. Stony Brook subway station was a comfortable walk and the bus stop to Fenway was very close. The house itself was comfortable and spacious, with a big, beautiful back yard.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jane's wonderful home. It was completely wheel chair accessible for our daughter and very comfortable for the entire family. We enjoyed having friends over for dinner since we rarely can visit their homes. The location was perfect. We took public transportation everywhere! We'll have to go back so that we can enjoy Jamaica Plain, the trails around the lake and her beatiful back yard. Thank You!
The house was spotless, lovingly cared for and in a great location for getting around Jamaica Plain and into the city. It has a wonderful layout, plenty of space with a nice flow. There is a great deck with a gas grill off of the kitchen and a nice backyard. We had a rental car and really appreciated the convenience of being able to park in the driveway. The location is very convenient and we did not have to rely on the car much of the time. The Pond is one block away and is a great place to walk. We were able to walk to some of JP's great eateries and shops as well. Groceries, gas and a pharmacy are all within a couple of blocks. The owner was very accommodating and responsive. It was a great find!
We have recently returned to the UK from our holiday in Boston and the house 'made' our holiday. It was such a great base for exploring as we had private parking but also the bus stop if we wanted to go into the city. Also possible to walk into town via the green spaces (emerald necklace ) which was fantastic. We drove down to Marth's Vineyard, over to Concorde and to Rockport.
Jamaica Plain was lovely, great restaurants and shops. We loved the house and Jane made us feel so welcome with her info pack and lovely e -mails. It is her home and it feels so welcoming and homely. We tended to lunch out and stayed in for evening meals as the kitchen was so well equipped it was easy to cook. We dined out locally a couple of nights as there are some great places to eat within walking distance. I can't recommend this house highly enough.
We traveled to Boston during Christmas with three generations -- grandparents, parents, and two children. What a perfect launching pad for seeing the entire city! The #39 bus leaves from a stop just two blocks away, taking us straight to the green line on the "T," and from there of course the entire city is simple to visit. If you prefer a car (though in Boston, you've got to really LOVE your car), the Jamaicaway is just down the block, so you can quickly get anywhere you need to go.
The home itself is just charming. Although the bedroom with an "interior window" might cause problems for truly light sleepers who are staying with loud talkers -- you know who you are -- for us it was just another fun architectural touch in a well-thought-out gem of a house. The living room, office, and den offer plenty of space to spread out but also wonderful gathering space to bring the family together. Furnishings are sophisticated and comfortable. We made full Christmas dinner for six in the well-appointed kitchen with ease. In short, we felt completely at home.
I would also like to add that while we were staying at this home, the water heater unfortunately broke down, but the owner immediately found a plumber (on Christmas Eve, no less) who fixed the problem. These things happen... but the owner was gracious and accessible, which is really what one hopes for in a host.
We could not have been more pleased with the house and the location. We came from California and Virginia for our son's graduation from Boston University and the house was everything it was written up to be and more. The house is clean and spacious. We were able to have three generations in the house, each with their own space. The back yard is so nice, we decided to have a few of our son's friends' families over for an afternoon barbeque. There was a really nice cafe on Center street a block away we could walk when we did not want to cook and a beautiful lake in the other direction for afternoon walks. It was only a quick drive to the Mall and the Duck Tour! So fun! Jane is the best as well. She sent us hand written notes and emails ensuring we were comfortable with everything before and after our stay.
Beautiful location for history & today: Freedom Trail & Paul Revere House; Red Sox & Celtics; Harvard, MIT, BU, BC & dozens of other colleges and universities. Fall leaf-peeping, Winter lights, Spring blossoms, Summer outdoors. Go to theater, symphony, art galleries, world music. Great museums of art, science, history. Jamaica Plain, city neighborhood with a small town feel, is known for private & public gardens like Arnold Arboretum, for a shopping street with all conveniences and few chains. And such great food! Award winning restaurants like Ten Tables feature locally grown produce; bakeries like Blue Frog make you drool.
