Very clean, very accommodating.

  • 4 of 5

This is a great place in Elberta, which is a nice walk or short bike ride to Frankfort. It is steps away from the Cabbage Shed which always has live music as well. The property was originally one large house and is now broken into two units so the layout is a bit chopped up. Furthermore, I would have liked a bit more clarity as to if both upstairs and downstairs are included in the rental.

That being said, Tom and Rita did a great job of giving it charm and all the amenities that you could need. I rented the property not for myself but my college hockey players. I am the coach and we used Frankfort for a teambuilding weekend. The guys grilled out on the back deck with the gas grill provided and used the greenspace in the back to play catch. Parking on the lake side is plentiful as well.

It's a great place that is fairly priced, and just off the beaten path. I will definitely consider this property in the future.

A Little Gem on Lake Michigan

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable accommodations in a great location. Elberta, MI is an "off the beaten track" find that is right on the lake a close to all the wineries, parks and restaurants that one could ever want. The owners of the this unit were very responsive and kept the place extremely clean. Would not hesitate to stay here again.

Nice time in Elberta

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was very clean and had plenty of room for our group of 6. (though my son said the fold out couch was a bit uncomfortable - the bed in the bedroom and futon in the sun porch were comfortable and the porch had a great morning view of fishing boats going by!). It was nice to be right on the water of Betsie Bay and very quiet. The cottage had all the necessary kitchen dishware, cookware and utensils. The coffee shop up the road is closed down, and there were a lot of properties on the street that seem to be empty or shuttered up, but that didn't bother us. It was a nice walk to a bluff with a great sunset view, and down to the Elberta Beach. The Cabbage Shed restaurant was just steps down the road and had friendly people and good food. Just a 5 minute drive was the very cute town of Frankfort with lots of shops and a really amazing beach. It was close to the Sleeping Bear Dunes and Traverse City. Overall really great trip and a nice place to stay!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind review!! We are sorry that your son was uncomfortable on the sleeper sofa; we have a new mattress on order, it just has not arrived yet. Elberta and the surrounding area is a beautiful place to vacation - we sincerely hope you will consider the cottage when you book your next trip to the area!! Warm Regards, Tom & Rita Watts

everything newly remodeled, neat and tidy

  • 5 of 5

Our family of six stayed comfortably in shipyard cottage. The kids assigned to the pull out sofa bed in the living room decided they preferred sleeping on the sofa (the mattress is thin). The futon and the queen bed are great. We made most of our meals on the grill and in the kitchen. We visited sleeping bear dunes, frankfort beach, and elberta beach, and biked the sleeping bear heritage trail and the betsie valley trail. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!
