Great vacation home for families!!!
We had a great tim at this property! It was very nice and clean with plenty of room for 16 people (9 adults and 6 kids). We will definitely come back here!
We were a group of 11 in the area for a September relative wedding and selected this house for a week reunion since it had the needed bedroom/bathroom count. House is very large and absolutely true to the pictures. Its a quiet area and wonderful for sunsets and fishing. Weather was too cool then for us to test out swimming.
Size-wise and over-all comfort-wise, the house worked out well. But perhaps because it's getting late in the season, things might be getting a bit lax. The floorboards (as well as upstairs walls) had all sorts of cob-webs and spider-webs that needed to be removed since we had a little one crawling around. We would have loved to open the windows and take advantage of the fabulous cool breeze, but some windows couldn't open, several screens were torn and there was a tremendous number of flies caught between screen and window on the inside that would have come flooding into the house. So we used the A/C the entire time in order to keep the house from getting too stuffy.
The kitchen is a bit challenging for large groups cooking meals (no pizza pans, cookie sheets, ice cream scoop, few storage containers) - but we made it work. We were never sent the key code text when arriving as originally indicated, so we did have a group standing in the driveway waiting as we made phone calls and texts to resolve the issue. But that was quickly forgotten by all once we were able to get inside!
It might be helpful to have a welcome folder with basic house information as many other houses do. The only instructions we came across were for the various TV's. It wasn't until one of our last days (after much button pushing!!) that we discovered the instructions for the double oven/microwave combo unit taped in an upper kitchen cabinet. On 2 separate incidents, water would only trickle out in the kitchen and the master bath for several minutes. We assumed this was related at water availability even though only two showers had occurred around that time--but knowing when that is a potential might help future renters avoid an unpleasant surprise if they need to wait for water. Master shower overhead light seemed to be possessed! It would simply come on and go off all by itself repeatedly whenever the switch was on. Made for a couple of dark showers!!
But all-in-all, good, consistent cleaning and perhaps a bit more attention to detail would certainly make this a fabulous house. We truly did enjoy our stay there even with the occasional wrinkles.
The home is even bigger than we had envisioned. There was plenty of room for each of our families to have their own space and equally enough room for all of us to hang out together. We even had enough space in the lower level to set up a karaoke station and disco, complete with lighting (we brought all that along) which had our little ones dancing the night away.
Knowing there was not a "beach" area, we purchased a floating island for the kids to play on which worked out really well. The sand bottom also provided the older kids with plenty of area to play in the lake. There was enough yard space to play yard games and for us to have an outdoor movie night (we brought our own screen and projector). We brought many of our own games along but there were plenty provided. The yard gave the little ones plenty of space to run off some energy. It was especially nice to have a canoe and kayaks available for our use as well. Thankfully, we had great weather for most of our stay and didn't need any indoor activities, but it was nice to see plenty for us to do (family games, foosball, air hockey, video games, etc.) should we have needed it. We probably brought along more "stuff" than we needed to because there was already so much there. All in all, it was a great place to stay and only wish it had been available longer.
Ideal for family vacation
The children especially enjoyed fishing from the at the end of the property. Even though the tennis court was not in good shape we all enjoyed hitting the tennis balls o the court. We could quickly gt to a number of waterfront parks for swimming and hiking.
Great House for a Family Gathering!
This is our second time staying at this great house! We are looking forward to the third.
Our group of four couples has traveled in October to various Midwest destinations for the past 35 years. We found this home to be at the top of our list as far as space and cleanliness. The home was well stocked with paper supplies, dishes, silverware and utensils, linens, and cookware. The view of the lake is lovely. We also appreciated the prompt replies to any questions we had from the listing service. The only thing some of us missed was WiFi connection. The home is not in close proximity to good shopping which the women of our group found to be a bit frustrating but the men found a golf course nearby which made them happy. All in all, this is a huge, beautiful home that would be perfect for a large family gathering or a group of friends seeking a place to relax and enjoy a beautiful lake setting!
