Great place!

  • 5 of 5

The house was spacious and clean. Everything we needed was available. The beds and linens were very comfortable. We were there for a fishing trip so we didn't spend much time in the house. My only suggestion would be to replace the outdoor lights. The bulbs are all burnt out for the ten steps you need to use to get in and out of the house. We would have changed them but they are not standard bulbs.

Owner's Response: Mike, Thanks for your comments as we always appreciate feedback. I'm glad you mentioned the lights. They are not burnt out. They are on a timer and guests often unplug them as they can be a distraction in the evenings when sitting around the firepit. If you stay with us again the plug in is under the deck steps. I'll also remind our cleaner to check them when she cleans. Thanks again for your feedback.

Nice home, meet our needs

  • 3 of 5

Nice area and quiet. We stayed for a weekend to attend a family event in the area & it meet our needs. The house's general cleaning was good, but it needs a good "spring/fall" cleaning. Light fixtures were very dusty, area behind toilets& woodwork in bathroom were dirty and cabinets under sinks. Not a place we would rent for a whole week family vacation. It nice to have use of the platoon, but to far from house. Additional, the dead-lock was missing from the door which is not acceptable for rental property. As a guest, you should have the security of knowing you are safe, especially at night.

Owner's Response: Chris, Thanks for your note and we appreciate the feedback. Many owners do not appreciate comments on areas to improve upon but we do! We will have a discussion with our cleaner regarding the importance of monitoring the cleanliness of area's not readily visible such as behind toilets and under sink areas. We will also speak with them regarding the dusting. Unfortunately, in the off season the dust collects as the cabin often sits unused for extended periods and we only clean upon the previous guest's departure. I'm glad you enjoyed the pontoon which we include with the rental and as much as I've tried to move the lake closer to the cabin, I've yet to have much success! :) The dead bolt has always been a challenge for us as we have guests who lock themselves out or consistently lose keys. We decided years ago to utilize the key code lock and have never had a security issue which we believe is a result of our location in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. Thanks again for your feedback and we hope you have an enjoyable upcoming holiday season. Steve

perfect for our purposes!

  • 5 of 5

The Whalen's were very kind, prompt and accommodating. We were in town for a wedding, and due to it being bear season and the size of the town, there were not many hotels in the area for us to stay at. So myself, and my immediate family stayed at the cabin. We mostly slept there, as we are the immediate family and of course were busy with wedding stuff, but there was plenty of space for everyone to sleep, hang out, and the setting (woods, lake) were beautiful.

The description of the property was accurate, we had a little hard time getting our GPS to find the exact address, but were able to find it better using the "Deer trail lodge" address.

Typical for a cabin in the woods, there were spider webs, and spiders, for most this is probably not a huge deal, I just have a huge fear of spiders! Ha, ha, I kept my eyes out and my family helped kill them as I pointed them out (about 9 in 3 days).

Because we are from pretty far away, our phone service was not great, so when I wanted to re-look up/remember the instructions for leaving I had a hard time connecting. I should have perhaps printed them before hand and brought a paper copy as I did not see free Wi-Fi available. (I saw in previous comments that the cost was unreasonable to maintain it, totally understanding). There isn't always a way to know if you will have service, so I will take a note in the future to print off this type of stuff, and if you could perhaps post/write something about this, it may help others!

My son wanted to watch one of his DVD's but the DVD on the player upstairs was missing the RCA cables. we used the cables from the play room in the basement and were able to get it to work. also the buttons on the actual DVD player did not work, but luckily there was a remote! so we just used that!

The Whalen's allowed me to check in a little early to drop things off prior to going and helping with wedding stuff (since I was traveling so far), that was greatly appreciated.

I would recommend this property to others, and I felt the cost was reasonable. We talked about coming back in the future to bring the family together at a time where we have more time to enjoy the cabin and the pontoon boat (we didn't get to even go down and see it as we were so busy!!)

We had our rehearsal dinner at The Spot Supper Club. The food was delicious! (prime rib!)

Thank you for everything!

Owner's Response: Jessica, We are glad your stay was enjoyable. Yes we do have spiders finding their way in to the cabin on occasion. Especially now that its getting cold and they are looking for warmth. We hope you chose to stay with us again soon! Steve and Anna

Peaceful lake cabin in the woods.

  • 4 of 5

Overall the cabin was inviting with plenty of sleeping space for our group. Living room area is not huge so we pulled in come chairs from the deck some nights while watching the Olympics. Some areas of the cabin in the basement level weren't totally finished which wasn't a huge issue, but it would improve the overall impression of the place. We did have an issue with mice during our visit and caught two with traps we bought in town. The huge deck with a large picnic table and grill was great. The only issue with the deck was the lower railing was quite a bit higher than the deck floor so our smaller dog could get through. This could be an issue with children too. The location was peaceful and the campfire area was great at night. The sky was dark and the stars were bright. It was a short walk to the dock and it was great to have use of the pontoon boat since several in our group wanted to fish. The lake was a bit weedy but they caught enough pan fish for a meal. Not many big game fish were caught, but several nice size bass were caught. The teenage boys in our group enjoyed the diving platform despite the weeds. The location was great and we went to Bayfield and took the ferry to Madeline Island and also hiked in the Amnicon Falls State Park which is a beautiful spot. We highly recommend the Delta Diner which is a short five minute trip. Be prepared for a long wait on the weekend as seating is very limited. Iron River while small, has just about everything one would need with a well stocked grocery store, laundromat and hardware store. Overall, we all had a great time and enjoyed the location. The price was reasonable for all that was included and Steve, the owner, was very responsive and pleasant to deal with when we called with questions. The detailed directions he emailed in advance were wonderful and made the place easy to find.

Owner's Response: Jo, We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Thanks for the input on the mice as we had an exterminator go out and treat. Now that its getting cold the little buggers are always looking for a way in. We completely agree on your assessment of the Delta Diner and highly recommend it for anyone staying in the area. It was featured on Triple D which has increased the crowds substantially. We hope you stay with us again soon! Steve and Anna
